What is the most important scientific finding since Einstein?

Brilliant and BROKEN Science 02 - Most important finding since Einstein
The replication crisis is science's dirty secret.
Peter Ridd has been researching the Great Barrier Reef since 1984, has invented a range of advanced scientific instrumentation, and written over 100 scientific publications.
Since being fired by James Cook University for raising concerns about science quality assurance issues,1 Peter Ridd works unpaid as an Adjunct Fellow in the Project for Real Science run by the Institute of Public Affairs. ipa.org.au/

Seems like what we need is to replace mechanisms that reinforce a narrative and groupthink (peer review, academic funding) with mechanisms that reinforce error correction. Falsification of results should be rewarded as highly as print-worthy headlines. It's a very different way of thinking to what we have now.

I really hope that your work will inspire a new generation of marine scientists using evidence based decision making and policy. This video you have just released is the most logical and coherent explanation that I have heard for why so much false information is disseminated to everyone. I have been spending a lot of time on the reef this year. It is fabulous. Those that have a doomsday outlook need to read some of your papers on coral bleaching to better inform themselves before making policy decisions. Or go and actually visit the reef! Keep up your good work Dr Ridd.

Another great episode. I'm beginning to think the real purpose of science is the accumulation of knowledge that is consistent with all observations and cannot be disproven. The weakness of scientism is the narrow focus on discovery rather than understanding. Unchallenged knowledge is little more than non-religious superstition.

Thanks for this. I have been thinking about published papers, aspects of funding driven results and notoriety motivated studies, and the sheer volume on a number of currently hotly debated topics. Sorting the wheat from the chaff, or gold nuggets from the 💩 is difficult for a layperson. It occurs to me that bad engineering can cause failures and disasters. Bad science is doing much worse.

Thank you Dr Ridd. Very well presented and informative. > “The great aim of education is not knowledge but action.” Herbert Spencer You would think that the proof of science would not be found in sound documentation, but in sound application.

I heard recently from a data analyst similar findings. If they can get us to believe that we are glorified apes, then they can get us to believe anything.

I wonder if there's a correlation between the sources of funding for "science" and the likelihood that the "science" is robust and repeatable? Further research is required....I think that's what they say.

Peter, you and many other incredible scientists around the world have been censured and persicuted for telling the truth and revealing the facts. You have not given in but are fighting back ! You guys are heros and you will succeed, the majority of people are waking up to the scams. Keep up the fight !
