SALAMAT is a portmanteau of three words "SA" - "LA" - "MAT" which stands for "Sa Langit Matatanggap". When Filipinos thank God using this portmanteau, the thanksgiving stems from a profound desire to receive in heaven the fullness of the grace relished on earth, believing that only in heaven we experience grace in good measure, pressed down and flowing over.
