What IS The Hit Era Production Bible?

Ойын-сауық

The HiT Era Production Bible.
When this first leaked online back in 2022, it was…weeeeell…not great. We’d just gotten a TON of unused footage from the classic series, and so seeing this was less exciting, and more…frustrating, at least for some. With Thomas fans tweeting already tweeting it into oblivion, I figured it would be fun to throw my own two cents in there, with a friendo along for the ride.
This…is the result. I hope you enjoy it!
By the way, if you haven't heard, Thomas Theorist already MADE a video about this document...which you should watch...watch it a lot - • Why This Bible DESTROY...

Personally, I think the Hit style guide really shows just how much that era was missing the main thing I think makes Thomas so great: respect. Awdry respected his audience and his subject matter deeply, Alcroft respected her audience and mostly respected her subject matter, Brenner respected the subject matter and his audience as much as Mattel let him, and their eras with the IP were good because of it. Between all the grammatical mistakes, the way they dumbed down the characters, and the way that they were constantly comparing the characters to children that the people writing this style guide had no respect for the IP or their audience, and were just using Thomas's popularity to make a kids show for kids, and nothing else.

If I remember correctly, Godred the Impailer was a Wilbert Awdry invention that he put in the Island of Sodor book. He's also the King that Gordred the engine was named after. For the 99 things this bible gets wrong, at least they have 1 that shows they know what Thomas is.

If talking trains were real, I can honestly imagine the engines hating the show after Hit Entertainment bought the TV series. That also means, many of them never resumed liking the series after Mattel bought it and brought fans to write the show because of how their proper personalities are never revived and have their personalities from the Hit Era, it's so obvious that they were still applying that goddamn bible. It's so sad. Some engines probably do like the Brennersaince, but many of them don't. This is my speculation. Too bad talking trains don't exist.

You know what’s really upsetting? The educational concepts laid out in this bible and show aren’t bad, the problem is how they’re spelled out and simplified, like kids couldn’t recognize the name of a location on Sodor unless it was repeated like Knapford Station, Gordon’s Hill, Lord Callan’s Castle, or the color and number of an engine when it’s obvious on screen. Kids are much smarter than you think! It feels like one of those beginner books that they make you read in kindergarten with simplified short sentences, but worse. Surprisingly, “boomed” isn’t on the vocab list, I know that was a word they LOVED using whenever Sir Topham Hatt was on screen. It makes me wonder if they actually tested this new format with kids?

Oooooof. yeah. I'm getting feelings that this was written by Americans who were trying to bringing back the pre-school crowd by using a lot of the characterizations of Shining Time DESPITE the show having been off the air for what, 5-10 years at that point? A lot of the character descriptions sound like American pre-school type shit and considering the bible keeps going back and forth between what I can assume is US and Canadian/UK spelling, maybe it was? I sort of having that keeping given how Edward and Gorden, the two 'adult' characters are treated because shitty pre-school shows are notorious for writing adult characters horribly.

Then again, this is the kind of pandering stuff that had hindered western cartoons from reaching their full potential from the 70s 'till the 90s. Also after reading this entire comment, you may be right about the part of Americans writing this.

I think what they mean is that, in the US, season 7 had not been released prior to the season 8 format change, and since Thomas & Friends had generally been a year behind in the US prior to season 8, this meant that US version of season 7 was effectively rushed to release, and folded into season 8. Heck, I don't think we even got DVDs of season 7 until season 9 was releasing.
