What Is The Flipper Zero? Why You Might Not Need One.

Ғылым және технология

The Flipper Zero is a gadget that transmit signals it transmit over radio frequencies, NFC tags, RFID and infrared to name a few. The website flipperzero.one/ calls the Flipper Zero: "a portable multi-tool for pentesters and geeks in a toy-like body" and that covers it pretty well!

@@Bugkiller991 they sometimes do implement changes, but mostly for more expensive models, though i have to admit that here in belgium the last year or 2 most of the locks i encountered that were new from the shop didn't have the same easy vulnerabilities as the same type of lock from before that period. This made me wonder if it was just random bad luck(not every lock produced from a certain model is exactly the same, i've had had locks that i bought more than 1 from the same model at the same time and even though the keys looked alike it was impossible to open one of them while raking whilst the others opened in less than a second with the same method) or if maybe they would've made improvements to it.

I got my flipper zero, quite easily, got shipped in a week. I found a morse code feature which would be great for someone learning cw. We found the music player feature and play some music occasionally. Obviously it sounds horrible but it's fun to mess with. I do have almost all the ir remotes for our multiple TVs programmed. I even went to the club site and showed the club president the cool device, and he liked it. The community behind it is pretty cool with all the codes you can download from internet. It's a fun little toy to have and play around with. I would recommend picking one up if you can.

One thing that I find very useful is testing RFID/NFC blockers actually work. Many wallets and card holders advertise that they protect you from being scanned but a device like this allows you to test and confirm it is doing the job. Taking this a bit farther, you can copy all your cards that have RFID/NFC data and leave your wallet at home, use your flipper for replay only when needed, you cannot scan what is not there. On the other hand, this leaves you open to physical theft since the flipper will have all your data. Pick your poison.

Been having a blast with my Flipper Zero. The GPIO function exposes some amazing functionality. I have used the Sentry Safe bypass and it works flawlessly. This device has rekindled my interest in hardware/software interfaces. I hooked up an RSP32 and been playing with it. Put Marauder on one for Wifi stuff and now playing with some other possibilities. I have some NRF24 modules coming so I can play with some of the 2.4ghz stuff. These are a lot of fun if you are into that sort of thing. All that being said be sure to use caution with these. It is possible to accidently interfere with essential equipment like medical devices. While the FCC may not be chasing every fool that misbehaves with a Baofeng I don't think you will get the same level of disinterest if you start changing the price of unleaded on the gas station sign. Man what a way to describe the nail, position, and hammer of what people see, expect, and receive. This device isn't a Swiss army knife for any electronics hacking wireless transmissions. Instead It's used for simplifying life in one area for developers or maybe some consumers. Letting new programmers have an easy for program developing using the on board features. As well as expanding the capability of sensors, chip programming, and other diy devices to be programmed or utilized in a small form factor. The forgotten part of the device though is much simpler than It's capabilities. In the field of private security development, you can program this device with many different attack methods to attack your specific security device protocol. Whether it be Wi-Fi, RFID, NFC, WPS, IR, Photocentric (photodiodes, photoresistors, phototransistors, and photovoltaic light sensors), Thermal sensors, and ANY OTHER DEVICE/SENSOR YOU CONNECT. This device is similar to math. You solve for an equation and the device lets you prove your solution. The equation being a security risk and the solution being, well- the solution. Then proven against multiple attacking methods developed by you and the public to test the solved equation.

I'm a trouble shooter and I think it would be cool to keep all my stuff on one of these to use like keys etc. There is a model of car, mabe more than one, that if the fob dies, there is an RFID chip in the fob that will allow you to start the car by placing the fob up to the start button or somewhere on the dash area etc. that would technically not use a code. It would use the RFID tag in the dash which cannot be rolling because the fobs battery is technically dead. The only way I could see that it is keeping up with the rolling part is if that little boost of electricity that the fob uses from the cars RFID reader magnetic field keeps it is sync. I do not think it does. I grabbed the wrong set of keys one day and was able to start my car with a dead fob that has no battery that has been sitting in a drawer for over a year. So use the flipper to copy the RFID tag INSTEAD of emulating the fob signal. Bam! your driving your car with the flipper. The door unlock signal on the other hand is the part I believe that gets people into trouble with bricking their fobs. Lol

Saying it's a replay device is vastly underestimating the device's strength. It has a ton of logic and can do things like run scripts, analyze spectra, and many other things. It's not just a "replay" device.

Will it let you download various signals from the internet to play? I've got this electric fireplace that I lost the remote for years ago, and it would be awesome if I could find something that would be able to function as a replacement. In addition to all the other cool things the Flipper does. I suppose I could also try going to the store and copying the remote signal from one of the floor models and see if that works. I haven't been able to find just the remotes for sale anywhere. As for the IR stuff, LG phones used to be able to do that. I have one that is couple years old that still does. It's great being able to control TVs in waiting rooms or at hotels.

Loving my FlipperZero. Got one a few weeks ago. Have made backups for everything in my house that it can interface with. The infrared part is very useful. At work we have many models of TV's in conf rooms in many buildings. Now I can carry them all in one device instead of having to track them all down. Just one aspect that makes this device useful day to day. Very interesting stuff especially once you start playing with the firmware available in the community. As I was typing this, UPS delivered the WiFi dev board so now I have more things to test on it tonight. Love your vids Josh :) 73!

@@the_mariocrafter FYI phones have NFC which is not the same as RFID. NFC is a different frequency than RFID and phones can't work with that. Very similar in how they appear to work but different frequencies and payloads and as such not compatible. As for IR, yeah I happen to have one of those old phones but not useful for just that feature as it doesn't work as a phone on modern carriers. The flipper brings together many different tools into one device. Useful to some but not as much for others.

Strongly considered the idea for my garage door. My garage is from the early 90s so likely has no rolling code protection and as of right now we've maxed out the number of keys that can be linked to it. It only accepts 4 keys but we have 5 cars. Because of it I was the unlucky one and need to use the key pad to open it, but my mother feeds animals in our front yard and I don't like the idea of standing there as a dear walks up to me. Being able to mimic one of the keys would be incredibly convenient. The only other thing I'd use it for is as a backup key for a hotel. Going with the family on trips usually means only 2 keys but 4 or 5 people. At the last place I went to they even had a two door entrance so I wouldn't even be able to knock the door to let me back in. Many hotels are switching to NFC so it's a fairly useful idea.

High end cars, with features like lights on as you approach, or other types of features that sense when someone is standing near the vehicle, are impossible to replay. The reason for this is the car checks to see if the person standing next (in the vicinity of about 50 feet really) to it has the "key" or keyfob or not by asking it to roll the code. Any code saved before that point tin time is then made stale. They've been doing this since at least '06 if not earlier. I love the ability to dabble with things in my day to day, and even at work. I implemented most of these things so it's one of those places where the flipper and what it can do is at home legally speaking. Would I give a child this device? Not without oversight. Would I recommend it to any adult? Not without them first getting a firm understanding of where the boundreis of legality lie concerning how to use this device. Other than that, awesome little Tamagotchi!

  • @Ultima64

I think with modification it would be theoretically possible for this device to support rolling code, but I wouldn't recommend it due to just the sheer societal implications of being capable of something like that
