What Is The East African Federation? A Future Superpower?

What Is The East African Federation? A Future Superpower? The East African Federation: United States of Africa - Phase 1?
The formation of a few east African countries into one has been discussed since the 1960s. The already formed East African Community would be the predecessor to the East African Federation and these six countries would be united into one. One Government, one currency and one language. Will it work?

I would love to see this. Africa really needs a strong power within the continent. It would create a solid backbone for the whole continent. The East African Federation is an amazing idea. It will have a lot to work on but if the government can work well and isn't authoritarian then it should be able to be completed. I'm also nervous and the DRC joining. While some parts of it should be able to mix, not all of the country is linked well with east Africa. This one will have to be decided by their governments and people. 😀☺️

I've been on board with the idea of the EAF since I learned about it a couple of years ago and I really hope the peoples of these nations are able to pull it off. It would improve the lives of not only the people of the nations that join but Africa and the world. I do have concerns about bringing in the DRC at this stage. I think it would be better for the EAF to form with the current 6 members as it would be easier to find their footing. It should take a few years to establish itself and if after that the EAF wants to bring in new members then do so.

I am pretty sure that if asked by referendum if they d like to join, the cglses will say no.We are already in SADEC and CEAC with richer countries. I support this. Also Kenyan and Tanzanian presidents have been super excited about DRC joining while also calling for the treaty update. In fact, Kenya is acting as if DRC has already joined, just take a look a recent deals signed with DRC. I suspect they could be a new name as DRC would make it more Central-East than just East African. Also president Kenyata, who happens to be the current chairman of the EAC is calling for even more countries to join. So after DRC who will be next? Somalia and Sudan have asked in the past but were not ready so they got denied. I wouldn't be surprised if the Central African Republic applies. It is trying to run away from France and its French colonial money. Joining the new super community would give it a huge breathing space where it can actually be itself. It is already familiar with EAC countries as Rwanda and Burundi are involved in peacekeeping there, with Rwanda even being part of the presidential guard. Now if it joins, this could cause an earthquake in the Franc CFA countries. These days they are screaming for France to get out of Africa and trying to get themselves out of France grip. If EAF comes to their borders with its own one currency and new common African language, what a perfect opportunity for them to simply drop France and its things. At this point they(CEMAC) could apply as a block. Of course France will not take this seating down, so we have to watch out for France throwing all kinds of sticks in our wheels. Even other western powers. This is how the USA and Canada were born. Few states started the confederation/federation, others started joining one after the other.

This would benefit all Africa, it is a largely peaceful block, with a ton of mineral resources and vibrant young people. Africa would for the first time control and regulate the price of our commodities from natural resources to agricultural products. From the onset the combined annual gdp would be huge enough to set up new manufacturing, and value adding industries. With new industries and new employments opportunities the billions would easily and quickly turn into trillions of dollars and with such income we going to earn the respect we deserve from the rest of the world.

Tuko pamoja has been the warrior cry in Kenya and Tanzania for ages, meaning we have to unite and create a Pan-African unity to lift uplift our people! Huge thanks to the leaders who have stuck with this idea of Federation, educated the people on the huge potentials awaiting to be realised, shout out to Pres, Uhuru Kenyatta for beating the Pan-African drum loud and clear whenever he has a platform! To the rest of the leaders it is time to wake up! The DRC joining will be a game-changer, they have the support of the Federation to modernise their infrastructure, re-negotiate contracts and use the $24t mineral wealth to uplift their people and the region! I have been in love with East Africa for over 50 years, worked in both Kenya and Uganda, and have visited many times. The EAF is a great goal, but doing it will be hard. Back in the 60's and 70's great progress was made with bodies like East African Railways and East African Airways, but these fell apart through the greed and power grabs of selfish leaders. Corruption is the disease which must be cured if the Federation is to survive and prosper. Currently, I am involved with developing a solar powered electrical grid with western donor funding, but this gift is being threatened by bureaucrats trying to "eat" the funds. Until this mindset of "My turn to eat" is abolished, all these grand plans will turn into dust.

One of the reasons that this could happen it's the language , all the countries that want to join EAF are majority suajili speaking so when you have a population that speaks the same language has the same beliefs ( 70% are Christians) brings a lot of social and ethnic stability in an african country..... And stability it's translated in economic growth .

Absolutely correct, David. And isn't it interesting how it is that when a particular country abandoned the principles of it's faith and devistation followed, some people with hidden agenda,' are so quick to blame the faith that they'd abandoned as the cause of the atrocities, but will never acknowledge the fact that it was a return to this faith and the forgiveness and "love your enemies" that it teaches that is largely responsible for the miracle that we call 'Rwanda'. Huh, Claude. Can you explain that Claude?

@@habaritech-africa Yes this is a great blueprint for Africa and actually the world. This is a great case study that is happening. ECOWAS in West Africa should follow this blueprint. Different than what few people would say Africa is getting much much better and I honestly believe West Africa can remove the Euro Peg, kick France out of the currency, and create a 500 million + person economic market that's only evolving and growing. More smart and entrepreneurial Africans around the world are looking to evolve west Africa than people think. especially in the states.

Great analysis I have always felt in my heart that Africa could always be united and should especially when you look at the world and the United Nations Security Council The entire planet speaks for Africa Africa and the people never speak for Africa with that being said there is always hope if we don’t let the old conquerors of Africa come in manipulate and conquer our minds over our future and our leaders must shut their pockets closed & start taking care of Africans case in point Ethiopia most recently minds conquered by the west will always create chaos….

This is all great, I just hope the leaders are aligned to the success of this great project. They must focus on unity instead of their grip of power in their respective countries; and that takes political maturity… African unity is dampened by leaders who see it as a dilution of their power rather than a strengthening of the continent.

Minor mistake, probably unintentional or wrongly stated from you; the European tactic of divide and conquer wasn't the creation of various countries around Africa, the continent itself always consisted of various ethnicities that never always got along. The real problem European colonialism did was drawing up the borders in a way that forced rival groups to me merged into one nation, or causing groups tied culturally, linguistically and religiously to be divided due to the new borders separating them. The way you presented it felt like you're implying all of Africa was a borders free union, which it wasn't. African civilizations clashed with each other just as much as European, Asian and American ones did.
