    So it’s just a uv5r, but the newer version. It’s got a massive battery. Assuming you don’t have a uv5r. I would not recommend a uv5r if you have the money to drop on a prc 152 or something. Been testing this out and the biggest problem is just the robustness of the buttons and the on and off switch. Too easy to bump it on and off. But for the money uv5r radios are awesome. They have 3D printed covers for them though that makes it harder to bump the buttons. So I may give that a go too. It has a lock button but that doesn’t work well, especially the way I run it.

    The jacket is a Patagonia level 5 pcu, unfortunately it’s an older issued jacket. To my knowledge the exact one I have wasn’t commercially sold. But you can find them floating around on eBay. I know orc makes a similar one but I believe that was issued as well so second hand eBay would be the best bet. You could probably find something very similar out there, that would be easier to get ahold of. The combat shirt I had on under the jacket was a crye prison army custom shirt. That would have to be an eBay thing as well unless you want the newer crye g3 or g4 stuff, honestly that would be better anyway.

    What kind of radio is it? I see a lot of people with radios and have been curious on what they use and why. CB, FRS, GMRS, Ham? They are obviously not secure.

  • @Not_very_grey

    @Not_very_grey

    4 ай бұрын

    It’s ham radio, and yes not secured. Generally they are just used for convenience in training or coordinating an event. Real world though, it’s more of a last resort type thing. In theory you could do very short duration transmissions, short range with a small antenna and the chance of it getting picked up could potentially be small depending on location. Other methods are considering how covert you actually have to be, how necessary is it to transmit. maybe having dedicated transmissions zones away from your fob or hold out. Lots of factors. Ham is convenient but definitely take extreme caution and deliberate planning to be used a some unfortunate scenarios.

    For sure, definitely takes some testing before calling it good. It’s just an easy way to do it. Also having the tq exposed will lead to fraying and damage over time. Covers or pouches are definitely the fool proof way. I just have access to a lot of TQs so it’s not an issue switching them out every now and then.

    Your taking a gamble that you will be shot in that tiny 12x10 plate anyway, especially if you use cover and the prone position... better off carrying more ammo and water for the same weight i can carry up to 34 mags in my LBV. 200 round SAW pouches are awesome you can fit 7 mags in one i have 4 on the belt of my vest.

    You don’t need 7 mags if you’re a civilian. If you’re in that type of firefight, you need to break contact. If you have a radio, you probably have friends. Use fire and maneuver.

  • @Not_very_grey

    @Not_very_grey

    6 ай бұрын

    7 mags are just more or less the universal standard for combat load out. Going it alone is also stupid but shit happens. Either way statistically the side with the most ammo usually wins. Could that translate to civilian stuff 🤷‍♂️ probably. Like I said, tons of variables, unfortunately with whatever civilian scenario we are talking about, their really isn’t enough hard data collected. Best data for combat comes from our own military with some common sense adjustments for civilian stuff. I’ve never seen a unit sop for less than 7 mags but hey whatever works for you and if you have a group then whatever y’all agree on is y’all’s prerogative.

  • @Not_very_grey

    @Not_very_grey

    Obviously the amount of mags you carry is situational, but my main point being it’s a good idea to have the capability of carrying at least 7, or 6 plus 1 in the gun.

    @@Not_very_grey Regular army carries 7. Special operations doesn't. And whoever has more accurate fires and has more assets to bare wins. The more mags and random stuff you have on makes you a larger target and slower moving. Don't prep for everything, prep for your specific mission and be able to adapt. Even in war, not every common to go through all 7 mags. And the more you practice and get range time the less rounds you'll have to shoot. Plus if you're in a firefight that long in the civilian world and I guess your radio doesn't work then you messed up. Unless, maybe in a defense, then I'd have mags staged at firing point and less on my body so I can move faster throughout

    @@korvenburns1135 yeah devgru rolling up in a helicopter and blowing a hole in the roof to capture or kill someone, it makes sense running 4 or less mags (quick in and out) but for civilians that’s not exactly reasonable. I disagree with you obviously. I think 7 mags is a great middle ground for “not enough” or “too much.” Obviously, different circumstances call for more or less ammo. Imo your main combat load should be capable of carrying 7 total. All things considered it’s not like I’m saying to carry 20 mags lol, 7 is very doable and doesn’t hurt mobility for someone even moderately fit.

    I assume you want feed back in the comments? Before all (FIND A GROUP, bros, your tribe, like minded people or whatever) you will MOST LIKELY die if you plan on going at it alone. plan on operating with a unit even if you're only in 2-3 like me rn. 1. I'd recommend fully covering your TQs the last thing you want is to Yank on those rubber bands and it's gone and/or try to cinch down the strap and mud sticks sand and dirt (from getting in the prone) is inhibiting the TQ from getting tight enough T3 and soileater make really good TQ holders that are small and cover all if not the majority of the TQ 2. MBITER/radio considerations, if you run a radio on the inside be aware some radios get HOT so outside the cumberbund maybe the move. If you switch channels or pull your radio out often, then consider running it outside and that mag to the inside Shaw concepts shaw shank holds 1 mag snug as well as spiritus radio pouch can hold 2 mags and is adjustable 3. Consider a stand alone GP that is on your kit empty with the purpose to conduct TSE or scavenging (civ consideration probably carry an empty dedicated scavenging pack) [mil you're handed a lot of Pyro or items prior to a range or mission and I've seen dudes lose smoke grenades and flares because the rubber bands they were hoping would work broke and then your signaling plan is fucked

    I agree with everything except the covering of the tq,s. As far as that goes, I’ve ran tqs the same way for years and never had a problem. So that’s definitely a matter of opinion both ways are fine in my experience. And in my past videos I have pressed finding a group of like minded people, because I do agree. If you are alone you will probably die alone. But like I said, many variables with being a civilian. It’s best to have an ifak that is accessible to yourself. Most sops in the military even have that as well. Because worst case you can end up alone, at the end of the day it’s best to have yourself covered. Unfortunately I can’t reiterate every facet of info every video, that would take a lot of rambling haha. But you are spot on bro. The tip about some radios going hot is a good one that I missed.
