All I know about Subud was a Housing Complex in South Jakarta, I thought it was a Bali Themed residential I just found out today on the news that Subud is a spiritual congregation from the Indonesian ambassador for Colombia

How wonderful. I think Bennett gives a very good description of Subud. I've never heard this before in spite of being in Subud for decaades. Will see if I can learn that you got the whole record digitalized. I didn't even know there WAS one. THANKS. Very complicated, as one said, to explain all the vastness of guidance--especially as each person is different in their connection with a Higher Power. There is no advertising of Subud as The Way--as there are many ways. No one is forced to join.

I have read some negative, and uninformed comments about Subud. I would suggest looking at the Subud website. Subud Is in 80 different countries. It is Not specifically an Islamic group, nor is it fundamentalist. It is not a religion. People of all different religions, cultures, spiritual feelings are in Subud. Many go to their own churches or places of worship. There is personal spiritual growth, with also to bring peace in diversity. Charitable projects are honored by UN.

I do not like to get into comments about the work, with people who Have not took a vast amount of time, to try and grasp it for them selves. So all i am saying, to the people who have grasped it in a small way. It is best not to get into any kind of argument with somebody on any social media. Thank you. I mentioned that everyone is guided as they are guided. So I respect your way. For me personally, I do believe in (using the word God) deeply in God--pray for guidance in my life, to be a good person, to surrender, etc. While Subud as I said, is interdenominational and international, people can have their own religions or beliefs. I also follow my ancestral religion within myself of Judaism. I believe Jesus had great teachings...as I also feel other prophets contributed as well. And, alas, remember, Jesus was Jewish, originally trying to make reforms at the time. He did not start Christianity--but others did later. I am in no way condemning early or later Christianity...nor other faiths, when they are truly followed...love your neighbor (love the stranger was also in Judaism)--as the central central guidance. Of course, there are Many interpretations re Jesus and early Christianity, and ways to practice Christianity. But then, alas--I cannot believe Jesus would have Ever wished the persecutions and murder between religions and crusades--even between groups who believe/d in Jesus...and worse yet, would he have ever wished these atrocities to have been done in His name? First commandment: Thou Shalt not Kill--yes? Now, in posts condemning a number of horrid things re religion--good for you in critical thinking. As I have said killings, persecutions, wars, etc. with one group feeling they are the only way--and that others deserve to die..horrid....and ongoing. Now, I know you see Jesus as a son of God--sometimes people refer to Jesus more than God-whatever makes them comfortable to me is fine. In Judaism and other religions (and I have heard ministers say this as well) we are All God's children--I am not even sure that Jesus really said he was a son of God--but rather--one receiving something to share. I know this will offend you greatly. And I know you can send links of others who agree with you--but it is because you feel this is Fact--and that is fine for you--but you see, to me, one should not be forced re another's truth. Actually, God is, to me, beyond our understanding with the mind--and not a man--for me. I do not even feel the need to write this or to persuade. And I do say sorry to anyone I may have offended. Just get yourself a good Bible and read it but so t just read the black and white letters- understand the deeper meaning.

i hereby witness that everything that is so concisely stated here by John Bennett is real and true from my experience. The latihan (practice) WILL purify you. BUT! when practicing you will have to get out of your own way to allow it 's force to move through you. We are habituated to living as if everything comes from us. Due to the illusion that we (individually) perceive ourselves to be 'the be all and end all' we miss the real meaning of our existence. I notice in the comments that there are those of you who quickly dismiss subud as a 'cult' without ever experiencing subud. Subud is not an idea. You cannot experience the energy by reading a book. No one can really tell you what it is (not even the 'helpers') because it is YOUR experience. It is a strong BENEVOLENT ENERGETIC FORCE. It has your higher best interest in mind and will actually pull you to YOUR higher 'PLACE'... BUT! only if you let it. You probably know... it's that place that your buried higher self longs for... (the hole that we all feel). Most spiritual/religious practices intended to 'raise you from the dead' take a lot of effort. Effort comes from ego. This is a relatively EFFORTLESS WAY. The more trust you extend to the energy the more gently it can move through you. It will cleanse you, teach you how to behave more humanely and make you more alive within your SELF. Then soon you will begin to feel filled... then fulfilled. With practice you will eventually have a SELF that has something to give to your world. You will begin to CARE and to act from that care. To begin you will definitely have to WISH to move in that direction. I perceive that those who immediately dismiss are the most afraid. Those who dismiss with hatred are scared and become scary. Please do yourself a favor and do not dismiss what you do not yet know. I am not trying to pull you in but i would like at least to pull the haters and prejudgers out of the very small hole that they are digging for themselves. FEAR NOT! NATURE LOVES COURAGE.

I did the latihan for three years back in the 80's. It's a legitimate spiritual movement. I had to move away from there so that was the end of it. It was a good time, though.

I and my husband and family members were Subud members for 10 years fully believing it was a contact from Almighty God. It all depends on what "God" we are talking about. Bapak claimed the Latihan Kejiwaan was a spiritual contact from and with God. He also taught the practice of the latihan would gradually cleanse and purify you into eventually a perfect human being. Eternal life was defined as being 'opened' by receiving the latihan. One actually has to have FAITH THAT THIS CONTACT IS INDEED FROM God. Subud is based on the premise as taught by Bapak that the 'latihan' contact IS the SPIRIT or ESSENCE of ALL RELIGIONS. This is clearly contradicted by the different religions teachings. Christianity teaches it is only by faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and his death on the cross for our sins that one receives the true HOLY SPIRIT of the ALMIGHTY GOD of the BIBLE. This gift of faith is received by Gods grace in Christ and is not dependent on works we do. As we grow in understanding and obedience to the Bibles teachings we are more and more transformed into Gods image the Bible teaches. In essence Subud claims that the latihan replaces Christ and the Spirit of God. Bapak also taught many teachings which are archived , recorded and revered among all Subud people generally. Bapak also taught Jesus was symbolically a seed, Mohammed (prophet of Islam) was the boy but Bapak is the complete man. He also taught that Jesus Christ was just a prophet and not the Son of God, and the Messiah of Israel and Saviour of the world. Bapak living in Indonesia and being a professed Muslim had to teach what Muslims taught or else he would have been in trouble from the authorities. Most Christians in Subud don't understand what Christianity really teaches and if they do, they end up leaving Subud or often converting to Islam. Subud has a high rate of people converting to Islam and we would describe it now as a kind of pentecostal Islamic practice. One must remember Bapak was a Muslim who was steeped in Sufism ( mystical spiritual experiences and spirits) which is very popular in the part of Indonesia where he lived. The Latihan does not promise forgiveness of sins or eternal life as Jesus Christ does. It merely leads one up the garden path. Steer clear it IS a cult and many people have had quite bad experiences in it. Plz look up the Rick Ross cult site and then Subud on that. May the one true living God lead you all out of deception and error into his full truth found only in Jesus Christ the RISEN AND REIGNING NOW AND SOON RETURNING Son of God!. WE ARE ALL BORN IN SIN AND CANNOT "WORK" OUR WAY OUT OF SIN BY DOING THE LATIHAN REGULARLY. SIN FORGIVEN IS A ONE TIME TRANSACTION BY FAITH IN CHRIST IE JUSTIFICATION. Subud does not deliver the truth but a counterfeit of God's truth. It looks and feels very similar to the real thing but is not!

@@billkeithchannel Where did you get that from? Subud is a Spiritual Brotherhood. It is not a religion nor a teaching, it’s central purpose is to facilitate the practice of surrendering to God with patience and sincerity.

The soul I think isnt inherently immortal. If the soul is immortal it is made so by spirit. The soul is just the intangible self. Discernment of spirits is the process of growing the soul toward immortality/salvation. Kenosis/flow/ theosis are tools that provide the energetic foundation of discernment God sent his only begotten son to earth to give us the noetic basis discernment.

A good portion of the confusion comes in discerning what 'good living' is. Some think it's 'good living' to shut themselves away to avoid evil. Jesus didn't do that of course in general but did spend time apart from people ... Anyway 'there is true religion' I think he put it. Which one is that? Because all are diametrically opposed at some point obviously. There are common threads (eg. Islam basically plagiarizes Old Testament scriptures functionally. Great let's let the child drive the car... lol. no no let's not. Let's get a responsible driver (The Holy Spirit) and let him guide the child.

Subud is a cheap imitation of the one true religion. It misdirects away from God. It is a satanic diversion. Lucifer laughs when people try to replace God with him.

My job in this life is to publish the truth. The truth is that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life and no man comes to God except through faith in him alone. The Lord is pleased with all those who proclaim his truth in boldness.

Or, you can look on the web under Subud USA/International, etc.First of all, please see what I am saying in the light of this: Subud does Not advertise. One can find out information if moved to do so--but there are no advertisements or preaching re "This is the Way", or TV shows, etc. Indeed, a performer some may know(Steve Allen)seen on this UTube, did interview a man named John Bennett back in the late 50's/60's, and it was recorded, but not to indoctrinate. It is a query. Subud consists of people of all religions, cultures, walks of life, etc., and is in about 80 plus countries all over the world. The experience of the latihan is, actually, for the purpose of each individual, to feel Their Own contact with the divine, light, God, higher power, etc, for their guidance: in their lives, work, with others, in the community--world, etc. On the web, one can see that there are many charitable collaborative works of Subud members all over the world and together--arts groups, teacher groups, writer's groups. These groups form to contribute to the world--but no one Has to join them either. One can only Say just a little, as each person has their own experience. There is no guru, teaching--the teacher is the person, you, or in general, one can say I. But there are many paths or non paths for people on this earth...this is not the only one. As for intellectual query expressed here, indeed, that is form of guidance. But, is it not Just as indoctrinating to insist that All religions, faiths, New Age, Traditional or Free-lance--are bad, riddled with mind control, power play, etc? Much good has risen out of people living and giving from a sense of Spirit on earth--that is the Core of all religions. Cheers!

There is a lie in the first minute. Listen closely. "Subud is an action." - "Subud is a key." The key and the action of the turning are not the same. He is making this up as he goes along. Lies.

No one should be the least bit surprised when any religion, whether Subud, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. tells them something about the human being which resonates with them. The leaders of these groups have manipulation of human beings as the means by which they achieve their ends. Therefore, they have studied human nature over the centuries, and developed a body of knowledge which few if any have otherwise. Of course, this should make it clear that their teachings do not originate from divine revelation, and reveals a far more mundane source for their uncommon knowledge.

Hi, no not at all. Is just the experience of being in contact with the Power of God (or Holy Spirit), to Whom we submit with sincerity and patience. In doing the Latihan Kejiwaan (meaning "Spiritual Exercise") you receive what you need, but this receiving doesn't come from your own mind or wish of your heart, but from Almighty God's Power, the same God who created us and want us to find our way into HIM again. I have been in Subud for 10 years and I have felt the reality of this by myself and I feel my life has benefit a lot from it... Now what kind of benefit I mean? I mean a development in my character. And a great sensibility to be in tune with my spiritual life, so if I do something wrong I will feel it and my behavior start to improve. That is the most precious thing for me, because maybe we look human but sometimes we don't act with humanity, so this Latihan that we receive in Subud is a gift from God to teach us how to be more human. Subud is not a religion, nor it is a sect either. It doesn't have teachers or leaders. Also does not involves ocultism, nor magnetism, nor hipnotism, nor magic nor any kind of meditation. Subud is a new way to Worship God, who gives individually to fulfill the needs of each person. Because even between brothers people are very different in characters and what maybe good for someone can be bad for other person. So this contact with the Power of God works differently for each individual depending their strenght and capabilities. I hope this is helpful to you. Kind Regards

I saw fault in the basis of this presentation. For ex: he states that "the creative power working through the mind of man has produced the modern world". I beg to differ as I consider even recent history. What Tesla created and envisioned for mankind was taken from him by corporate leaders and statesmen. His inventions were absconded or destroyed, his notes stolen, and a true creative power was then broken and he died alone and destitute. There are "many" people's stories such as this, and the progress we now see and experience are but a manipulated process of evolution, not by our creative inspirations, but wielded by the machinations of the marketplace. For ex: the gas combustion engine, technology from the 19th century forced on the citizenry even today, whilst technology from the 21st century is hidden from us. He states that "people need tranquilizers and sedatives because they have lost the inner light". If you are troubled, the system of health care may offer and may even encourage these substances. We have other tools to help us just as there have always been. Sometimes a change in diet can change one's disposition. The liver can directly affect our emotional status. That ought to be at the top of the list. He states that people can't live by spiritual teaching or religion, and yet, as the human mind evolves and develops, so to does the human spirit. My Mother is a perfect example to me of one whom evolved and eventually grasped the loving heart we all seek to become. For me, I can't have a true spiritual conversation without acknowledging Jesus. I know the bible (KJV) very well, Mummy. I also know where the Bible was assembled from, the source texts if you will. The Bible is not an original work, and while I respect the messages it carries, I do not confuse the ethics of Our Lord with the fundamentalist nightmare you live in. And be honest, it is a nightmare for you; so many heathens, so much blasphemy, so little support, just The Mullet drinking beer on the couch and the five sprogs out stealing cars. This narrative sounds like a sweetened advert for a set of strict lifestyle rules that forbid everything that can give pleasure and satisdaction in life. Obama seems to be linked to this cult, and all his actions have resulted in thight restrictions and surveillance of every individual in the western world as well as an immensely increae of war and violation of human rights, while he is speaking about peace, prosperity and individual freedom. The cult might however have some techiques that can give insight and pleasure when added to a liberal lifestyle.

I have been in Subud for a few years. I assure you that many persons in Subud drink, smoke, have sex outside of marriage, smoke pot, and do all sort of other things which are frowned upon by society.

The so called latihan can do NOTHING but encourage you to be deceived into thinking you are progressing somewhere when in fact you are going nowhere but backwards.
