What is Social Phobia Disorder and how is it treated?

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) can affect people of any age; however, it typically emerges during early to middle adolescence. Social Anxiety Disorder (also known as Social Phobia) is a condition in which people experience significant and sometimes paralyzing symptoms of anxiety in social situations, based on core deep fears related to evaluation and judgement by others. This anxiety and fear impedes an individual’s social life and interferes with everyday activities, school, and professional life.
For many, CBT and ERP combined with medication provide much-needed relief for people suffering from Social Anxiety.

Great window into some of the lesser known symptoms of social anxiety. Watching my child's world shrink into a small circle was heartbreaking. Now I see simple things I can do for myself to help them learn to be OK with feeling anxious.
