Undergrad Psych Student here! Social comparison theory, a concept that delves into how individuals evaluate themselves against others, suggests that awareness doesn't necessarily render these comparisons ineffective. The psychological impact remains significant even when people are conscious of their comparisons. This is because the drive for self-evaluation is deeply ingrained, and comparisons often happen subconsciously as a way to gauge personal progress and self-worth. While being aware of comparison "tactics" can lead to more mindful engagement with them, it doesn't wholly negate their influence on our emotions and behaviors. In other words, yes, comparison theory "psychological tactics" work on someone aware of it.
