What is Public Opinion
It Is a well-known saying that democracy is a government by public opinion. And to understand public opinion it is necessary to understand first the individual opinion. We can define individual opinion as the “Expressed idea or attitude of an individual on an issue confronting the group of which he or she is a member.” It is also necessary that the opinion should be expressed. Without expression, there will be no public opinion. Lord Bryce has defined public opinion as “the aggregate of the views men held regarding matters that affect or interest the community.” Similarly, V.O. Key defines public opinion as, “Those opinions held by private persons which government find it prudent to heed.”
On the other hand, public leaders and thinkers, propagators and molders of public opinion, and a mass of people are the biggest sources of public opinion. Similarly, education, free press, free discussion, social harmony, and economic security are the conditions for sound public opinion. Hence, public opinion is very important. Public opinion is essential. Public opinion is good.
