What is PET Plastic? | Polyethylene Terephthalate Overview

What is PET / PETE?
In our new series of videos, we are going to go over the different numbers you see at the bottom of your plastic products.
For the first video, we are going over the number 1. This means the product is made from Polyethylene Terephthalate, or PET for short. This material is most used in plastic bottles and is popular for its strength while remaining lightweight.

Thanks for the info that's really dope because I was just holding a juice bottle with that and it's basically the only information I needed in which you delivered really well. I think the people who disliked the the video are the ones who wanted to know about all the different types so I'm glad you did a follow up video on that

It is used in raincoats and rain pants which are on sale at Harbor freight although ripped hole in pants first time I wore them although still use them as need water proof outfit because of all the rain we get here. I got XXL so wear them over other pants. It gets cold here so need to dress in layers.

From my limited understanding it is safe. I.e. heating PET doesn't leech harmful levels of toxins into the food. PET like nearly all plastics can't handle high temperatures despite its melting point being 220C+. At cooler temps it will already warp and lose integrity,. However, ready meals in a PET container can survive those extremes because it is filled with food/water that keep it cool. Millions of oven meals use (C)PET.

Don't they also use it to line the inside of coffee cup. When it hits boiling temperatures it breaks down in to your coffee.
