My daughter is 8 years old & has seizures when she's asleep at night & early morning, between 11pm -8am. It started about a year ago when she was 7. Her Dr prescribed levetiracetam & now the Dr is slowly switching it to oxcarbazepine. My daughter told me that she felt her seizure coming because of a tingling in her foot.

I think I’m experiencing the same thing. I also had a tingling sensation in my foot or pins and needles. But when it was happening IF it was, I was aware and could see but not move at all and my head also felt extremely tingly. I eventually broke out of this state though.

I am 42 and I started getting seizures at the same age as your daughter. Mine wasn't at night though and I didn't have them often. I developed epilepsy in my 30's and I started having them at night and it started to happen in the daytime too. I am taking medication now and it's helping. I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers. I hope she improves. ❤

I started to have seizure at the age of 9. At first it was during sleep... But then it developed..I started to have seizure in school. But now it's under control... I'm also using levetiracetam tablet 😊....It's been 5 years since I started this medication... It's under control now... But sometimes I feel that it won't cure but then I realise there many people out there with worse conditions than mine...So all I have do is live happily 😊

I was just diagnosed with epilepsy today, i am 13. I was sent home a week or two ago with wires attatched to my head for an overnight scan of my brain and stuff, and apparently i have been having nocturnal seizures, which makes alot of sense now that i look back on what people have told me i do during my sleep. I had one seizure during the daytime back in january a couple days before my birthday, and thats what warranted this entire thing.

I also have nocturnal epilepsy and started when I was twelve or thirteen years old. I am now 46 years old and my epilepsy is doing well with carbamazepine medication also called Tegretol. I also had an aura I guess you would say before seizures. Next day my arms and legs would be sore, often sick to my stomach and bit my tongue. But last seizure was in my 20’s very lucky indeed with anti convulsant med that’s helps me. I could not outgrow of my seizures. But learned that it’s a part of me and i am doing well with that.

I turned 25 three months ago, and I am just learning about this. I only had grand mal seizures whenever I was sleeping, my first being 2 week after I turned 13 years old. I'm not photosensitive, and ever since I was put on medication I experienced day time partial seizures. Wow, I can't believe this. Thank you!

My son (6) had his first seizure last night in his sleep, and now i’m so worried it might happen again but now we are little smarter! Most scaring is that he was not able to breathe so gonna keep a watch now every night. Thank you for clearing this a little! Waiting for the tests and everything feels so bad.

I had undiagnosed epilepsy up until I was diagnosed at 16. Another thing to watch out for is staring spells. My parents thought my staring off was linked to dissociation from ADHD, but they couldn’t have been more wrong. They’re actually a type of absent seizure, which are seizures that affect the brain and consciousness but not the body. It starts off as a feeling of Deja vu, almost like you’re remembering a dream you had forgotten and it’s all coming back at once. My head would start to pound and I could literally hear my heartbeat in my ears. I would start experiencing flashes of light, get extremely hot and sweaty, nauseous, and eventually start heaving and gagging which will sometimes lead to vomiting. Please pay attention to those signs. While I don’t experience convulsing seizures as often, these absent seizures are EXTREMELY common for me and has even prohibited my ability to drive. They’re hard to notice too. Prayers for you and your son, this is an extremely scary disorder. Especially when you have no idea what’s causing them

I've had these all my life at night but only recently realised what they was after I was sleep deprived and they happened whilst I was a wake. Few weeks later I had a night full of them, cluster TCs, fucked me up for about a week my body hurt that much. It's been months and I'm still waiting to see a neurologist 😩 I'm tired of being tired and aching all the time with nowhere to turn

Same here. If I start losing sleep, I begin to have seizures. If I continue without catching up on sleep, I get myoclonic twitches and atonic seizures. I may sleep all day after those and need to keep catching up on sleep until I can get back to going to sleep earlier.

I’ve only been diagnosed with generalised seizures, but I live alone so I don’t really know. I’ve been “sleepwalking” for quite some time now, doing things with no memory after. Like I do when I’ve had seizures during the day. Terrifying when I discovered I had turned on the oven with food inside.

What about seizures being misdiagnosed in ways of sleep apnoea ?

  • @GothicPoet

This is what happened to me. I started having seizures at night in my sleep. I started waking up and the seizures started and they started happening in the day until I developed epilepsy. I hurt my shoulder in my sleep because I kept having seizures and it hurt my shoulder. I had to get physical therapy for my shoulder and I got on seizure medication. I was told I need to go to the hospital if I have more than one seizure and if I don't come out of the seizure. It affects my heart and lungs too. I have been to the hospital for it and they didn't allow me to leave until my heart and lungs started working well. The most painful seizures are the ones that affect my muscles and they are hard on my body. I get bruises sometimes from the muscle spasms. I am on medication now and I am doing better.

I get myoclonic clusters all night long some nights. It keeps me awake and it doesn't stop until 4:30am. It's draining and exhausting. I think it's more likely to happen if I eat sugar in the day without knowing it. Or around hormonal changes. I've been on the ketogenic diet for the last few years because medication just wasn't helping me.

Just to clarify: Nocturnal epilepsy is when you only have grand mal seizures while asleep. When awake, you never have grand mal seizures. I used to be diagnosed with that along with temporal lobe epilepsy(one where you feel that deja vu thing and have hallucinating senses of some sort). Then it got worse like about 5 years after, wherein it changed from nocturnal to being just the usual grand mal which means basically, now even while awake i also have seizures.

Also travelling on aeroplane and migrating to another country will require sleep deprivation to an extent. Besides, once I get there, I will have to adapt to the new sleep cycle(day time and night time are different). I doubt that it's risky. Can you clear my doubt??

I have a question or 2. I’m 43, had 3 nocturnal grand mal seizures. 3 weeks apart. Very bad. 1st my 7 year old seen but didn’t know, #no memory stayed asleep, 2nd. Wife saw, called 911, I’m unconscious but fighting with all that came and they shot me with a seductive, #i remember flashes of seizure, feeling trapped in a hole cannot move, and the fighting, 3rd, wife recorded. I tried to leave after to work but she stopped me. I remember Nothing. I’m on 750mg Letv and very very emotional. Why do I remember my 2nd one??? Does a sedative affect u after a seizure???? What else can I take instead letv???
