A number of years ago when I was about 50 years old I became interested in physics and discovered that the there is a language, called mathematics, to understand that body of knowledge. I started taking lower division classes in calculus and physics at the local community college-thinking that I would understand such concepts like Maxwell's equations. I found that it was not quite that simple so I began taking classes in physics and ODE's, PDE's, linear algebra, etc at the university. Much of it was a struggle-I made a C- in EM for instance (See Hitler's rant on KZread when he finds that he flunks his coarse in EM- I understand completely-even being confused by Griffiths r notation). But have reached a point where I can appreciate, understand and enjoy these concepts as presented by DrPhysicsA lectures, such as his one on Maxwell's equations and this one-"What is light?'. These lectures bring all of the efforts that I've made worth while. These lecture are clear and concise-without being dumbed it down. Thanks!!!

You are quite right. The series of videos I am making at the moment derive electromagnetic radiation from Maxwell's equations. Maxwell was, of course, completely unaware of anything to do with quantum physics. So this is simply explaining the situation from his perspective which is a perfectly proper thing to do. We now know that light can also be considered to be made up of photons which are packets of energy. That is the quantum mechanical approach which I am not covering in this series.

Here is a simple way of looking at it : Curl of E = -dB/dt (negative sign is less relevant here) As E exists solely in the x-direction, Curl of E = dE/dz y (a y vector with a magnitude dE/dz) Conclusion 1: B is in the y-direction. Simply put, dE/dz = dB/dt Now, we consolidate the fact that differential equations of E and B are w.r.t different variables dz and dt. Since dB/dt = dB/dz · dz/dt, dE/dz = dB/dz · dz/dt dE/dz = dB/dz · c Conclusion: rate of change of E wrt to z is identical to that of B. Since E wrt to z is sinusoidal, wave B is sinusoidal and entirely in phase with wave E. In addition, E is larger in magnitude by a multiple of c.

Another worthwhile video, good job. I'm looking forward to the whole series on light. At some point, could you discuss what is, and is not, known about the link between an electromagnetic wave and photons? Can you draw a picture of a photon (is it a "wave packet", burst, something else)? I can't post a link, but if you Google "Breakthrough for photons in the microwave frequency range", it discusses the generation and detection of microwave photons. Can you explain what they are doing?

  • @xavierlopes9204

A photon is just a made up term by quantum physicists or bean counters. A photon is a scalar pulse (longitudinal wave), a dielectric pulse or condensate, like a burst of energy where the transverse dielectric and the longitudinal magnetic intersect. There is no such thing as a photon. Electrons on the outer shell of an atom are simply a measure of magnetism or level of magnetism. An electron is one unit of dielectric induction. An atom is an electro-static dynamo.

Both magnetic and electric component of EM-wave oscillate at same phase so the total energy of wave must oscillate between 0 and non-zero value. Is the energy stored/received in a way like heisenbergs uncertainty principle says that momentarily energy can be borrowd from time-space or is it wrong to think it like that? Imo it would sound interesting to think that even em-field has some sort of inertia to slow down the change of its value and energy of time-space is not absolute zero but floating

When an em wave travels in free space free of charge or current densities, the electric and magnetic fields are in phase. Hence there comes a point when both electric field and magnetic fields become zero simultaneously. How does light propagate after this situation. Since both magnetic and electric fields are zero, how would they induce each other and propagate?

continued -- From that microwave photon link, a microwave photon has a lower power level than a visible-light photon, but what about size? Is a microwave photon bigger in size (volume) than a visible light photon? Is it the same shape (one is generated from the up/down on an antenna, the other from an energy drop)? Can you discuss optical antennas? I realize that this is a long list of questions, but I know you're looking for feedback. Again, thanks for producing your videos.

There are no particles, an electron is a unit of electrostatic induction. The so called electrons on the outer shell of an atom are simply levels of the magnetic field. Valances are electrostatic levels (not electrons). Every atom is a toroidal electrostatic polar dynamo (magnet). The one dimensional view of the atom, is nothing more than the top view of the toroidal magnetic field.

well the oscillation of the E-field has a magnitude of 10 to the power of 14 Hz, if you calculate the frequency associated with speed of light. That is a very high frequency (fast). I'm not even sure if we have the means to measure discreetly frequency of that magnitude. i think even the highest frequency we can generate these days is in the order of gigahertz or terahertz, which is significantly lower than the frequency of light. of course that is the easy explanation. i'm sure theoretical physicists have a more complex and abstract formulation to answer your question, but unfortunately few people speak their language.

You often hear that, in an EM wave, what is happening is that the wave propagates by 1) a changing electric field which produces a magnetic field, and 2) and changing magnetic field which, in turn, produces an electric field. And so on and so on. I can see how the changing electric field could produce the magnetic field, but it seems as if the magnetic field would be much too weak at 1/c proportional to re-create an electric field 300 million times stronger than it. How does that work?

TheoryofHobin Oh, I don't know about that. To do the math you have to have the math. Any efforts of Maxwell would have been futile without Newtons calculus. Really he probably wouldn't have had the time to create calculus too. Similarly Einstein would have been stuck without Rieman and his treatment of multidimensional analysis. I think Reiman's work came around in the 1850s. So the tool was in the box but just barely, for Maxwell. You really can't fault Maxwell for not taking another step after revolutionizing the study of physics. How many times did Niel Armstrong go to the moon? Why didn't he go to Mars shortly there after? We have the technology.

Magnetic divergence along with vibration, manifests matter via the aether, magnetism creates our voluminous visible universe. Divergence is longitudinal, outward propagating magnetic field in this case. The dielectric (energy or electro-static) has a downward causation or transversal, the magnetic field has a longitudinal divergent, outward causation, which creates magnitude, volume and space in front of you.

as I learned in trigonometry and electronics = dynamic trigonometry is energy wave physics as seen on an oscilloscope also the only 2 concepts are r and t and 2 objects m and Q or (m/Q)*(r/t) = c*SQR(k/G) light just current change or mass charge (voltage) as inductive reactance leads +90 and capacitive reactance -90 lags xz current being cos or I (magnetism)being 90 out of phase and horizontal longitude yz voltage being sin Q and vertical latitude a double 90 phase shift in phase and polarization xy being a vacuum the photon leaving and pressure the photon coming azimuth

I studied physics in college, so let me share my take after wasting that money. Describing what you see it do with math is NOT an understanding. Your words do not include anything about WHY electricity and magnetism are perpendicular! That's pretty important, but myopic math followers don't know there's something missing. A cross product turns numbers perpendicular FOR NO PHYSICAL REASON. SO, at that point, YOU'VE LOST TOUCH WITH REALITY! You are all probably smarter than me, but you are not thinking for yourselves. You believe what you were taught. Even basic mechanics using angular momentum has become a math analogy that misses causality. Look at my later video. The "cause" is better than "what it does."

Waves from all particles within every observable spherical region of the One Infinite Universe, cascading downward from a distance radius combine, forming the sinusoidal wave medium density (space) at each and every point of space. . ..Always at right angles the magnetic fields, or the total oscillating amplitude of Sine Wavefronts is formed by a rings series of inward spherical waves coming into every point. . ..Colliding at maximum compression points. . ..at wave crests and wave troughs always seeks a minimum +1=0 now are equally balanced by opposite expansion -1.. . .at interchanging compression points.. . .(The inward absorption +1=0 now -1 outward emission between the two previous vectors spirals out 2pi Spiral Radians 360 degrees).. . .As trillions of inward 4pi spherical waves multiplying inward cancel +1=0 now the sum of opposite vectors mathematically is always zero. . ..(Zero point field).. . .Leaving space with an average temperature, or pressure stillness of the wave amplitude squared.. . . This polarized super position of the wave amplitude squared is the reason for entanglement, for the symmetry or conservation laws in human physics.. . .Or why at the speed of C, time and space are zero due to length contraction and time dilation.. . .Or why the point of charge Q remains the same for the entire positive surface of a negative expanding light sphere.. . .Because the photons input +1=0 now -1 output polarization in between the crest and troughs will remain the same (sharing the same expanding moment of time) no matter how large the light sphere becomes until acted upon by an external force.. . . Everything is formed by a surrounding 4pi Spherical inward absorption +1=0 now -1 outward emission of electromagnetic waves.. . .All motion is 2pi Spiral.. . .And all 3D directions are 4pi Spherically curved thus : Individual input +1=0 now -1 output Wave Centres of photon energy E=hf are everywhere relative to an infinite future of potential possibilities, shaped rather like onions relative only to their frequency f coming into +1=0 now -1 out of existence, forming the total oscillating amplitude of Sine Wavefronts at each and every point of space compressing energy +1=0 now -1 de-compressing Two Opposing Spiral Vortices, or contracting +1=0 now -1 expanding Virtual Pair's Spiralling out of existence.. . .(2pi Spiral Radians 360 degrees).. . .Like the zeros and ones of a computer screen with the Planck's constant h continuously forming a blank canvas that we can interact with turning the possible into the actual.. . . Therefore visible light is just an added pressure condition to a wave medium that's already there continuously coming into +1=0 now -1 out of existence.. . . Vibrating sinusoidal spherical wavefronts of only spiral motion always transverse one unit of space now per one unit of time dilation (energy input) or entanglement.. . .(Spherical wavefronts entangling +1=0 now -1 unfolding 2pi Spiral Radians 360 degrees from A to B).. . .Therefore is no spooky action in between you and me.. . . Light is simply space divided by time entanglement and nothing else.. . .That implies a strict equivalence between time and space with light being the constant conversion unit between the two.. . . Therefore the redshift with distance is actually a consequence of less energy exchange with distance, less wave interactions oscillating the total wave amplitude in between time dilating gravitational gradients with distance.. . .And Doppler causes a redshift because light is a constant input +1=0 now -1 output wave chain reaction from A to B.. . . Therefore the big bang theory was a huge misconception, since Cnow='s time input resonance vector direction +1=0 now is opposite to -1 as time unfolds all the interference dividing outward from their sources.. . .And that is what's being perceived as an expanding universe.. . . Who can imagine an explosive de-compression expanding outward from a point source.. . .Without there first being probabilistic implosive positive energy compression contracting time and space in the first place? Energy compression is life +1=0 now -1 expansion is death.. . .(Enfolding an organization process +1=0 now for -1 the continuous disorganization of statistical entropy as time unfolds).. . .Time is inverse multiplying +1=0 now -1 dividing like frequency and wavelength.. . .Therefore the big bang theory states that the universe died before it was born.. . .LOL!!!.. . . Instead the zero point field (Imploding positive energy compression contracting time and space is the very beginning of absolutely everything) giving us a starting point or concept of zero in our mathematics, therefore the Planck's constant is the moment of action turning the possible into the actual.. . . The Lorentz contraction of time and space is infinite in our universe within the active cores of galaxies where . . ..Surrounding implosive positive energy compression contracting time and space (space) the virtual pair's formed by the probability sine wave function acting upon every point, with rings series of photon energy shaped like onions coming into +1=0 now -1 out of existence, cannot escape from being multiplied to infinity +1=0 now -1 forming an equal and opposite explosive de-compression of Cosmic ray jets and synchrotron radiation expanding outward via the poles somewhere within the One Infinite Universe.. . . Atomic particles are really High Wave Amplitude Wave Centres of Pure Vibration, from regions of intense surrounding wave pressure. . ..Made of vibrating wavefronts concentrically layered like onions called shells in particle physics, or Spherical Standing Wave Structures over a period of time now - their output was the negation of their input : 0 goes to 1,1 to 0.. . .the start of the Fibonacci Spiral.. . .

Activity is the Essence of Substance!!.. . .Because Energy is Vibrating Sinusoidal Spherical Wavefronts of only Spiral Motion!!!!.. . .Vibrating Sinusoidal Spherical Wavefronts of Only Spiral Motion Always Transverse One Unit of Space now per One Unit of Time Dilation (Energy Input) or Entanglement!!.. . .At the Positive Surface of A Light Sphere Entangling +1=0 now -1 Unfolding 2pi Spiral Radians 360 from A to B.. . . Therefore, is no spooky action in between You and Me!!.. . . Now space is a division of Solidity into entropy as time unfolds C2 the second law of thermodynamics.. . .But also in the Future E2 will equal a multiplication of Volume +1=0 now at the expense of gravitational potential -1.. . .E2=M2 C4+P2 C2.. . .See: E=mc2 is wrong Sixty Symbols.. . .(Its just not the full story).. . . And see;: Spherical Electron Sixty Symbols.. . .And Quantum Atom Theory, also on youtube.. . . Everything is formed by a surrounding 4pi Spherical Inward Absorption +1=0 now Outward Emission Of Electromagnetic Waves.. . .All Motion is 2pi Spiral.. . .And All 3D Directions Are 4pi Spherically Curved thus : individual input +1=0 now -1 output Wave Centres of photon Energy E=hf are everywhere, shaped rather like onions relative to an infinite future of potential possibilities, relative only to their frequency f coming into +1=0 now -1 out of existence forming the total oscillating amplitude of Sine Wavefronts at each and every point of space compressing energy +1=0 now -1 de-compressing Two Opposing Spiral Vortices, or contracting +1=0 now -1 expanding Virtual Pair's Spiralling out of existence.. . .Therefore visible light is just an added pressure condition to a wave medium that's already there continuously coming into +1=0 now -1 out of existence like the zeros and ones of a computer screen with the Planck's constant h continuously forming a blank canvas that we can interact with turning the possible into the actual.. . .This zero point field with probabilistic ((Imploding positive energy compression contracting time and space, is the Very Beginning of Absolutely Everything, Giving Us A Stating Point, or Concept of Zero in Our Mathematics. . .. The Lorentz contraction of time and space is infinite in our universe within the active cores of galaxies where. . .. Surrounding Implosive Positive Energy Compression Contracting Time and Space where the Virtual Pair's formed by the probability sine wave function acting upon every point with rings series of photon energy coming into +1=0 now -1 out of existence cannot escape from being multiplied to infinity +1=0 now -1 forming an equal and opposite explosive de-compression of Cosmic ray jets and synchrotron radiation expanding outward via the poles somewhere within the One Infinite Universe.. . . The One Unified Electromagnetic Spectrum is a continuous flow of energy (Vibrating Wavefronts) therefore Light is a Transverse Sinusoidal Wave.. . .And it was Time that was Quantized.. . .Time and space was quantized into moments.. . .Only the frequency now is relative at each dipole magnetic moment of time!!

+Philip When you think about it though, it's not really about having substance in a youtube post . . . it's all about getting a window into another person's coneption how how the universe works. It was a beautiful post. :)

I read that activity is the essence of substance.. . .Energy is Vibrating Sine Wavefronts of Only Motion.. . .No Strings attached.. . .Velocity equals time density +1=0 now -1 density of space time G/r2.. . .V= td +1=0 now -1 ds-t G/r2.. . .Tap the side of a round bucket of water. . ..Because everything is made of just Two Spherical Sine Wavefronts Compressing 3D Wave Centres of Energy +1=0 now -1 de-compressing Two Opposing Spiral Vortices.. . . From Virtual Pair's of Plasma, to Gases, Liquids, and Solid Fibonacci Fractal's.. . .Only difference is their 3D Wave Centres Time Dilating Rate of Vibration, or Volume now at the centre of their Own 3D centred ref-frames within the One Infinite Universe.. . . Tap the side of a round bucket of water. . ..Because antimatter is just the opposite phase, or Vector Imploding Energy Compression +1=0 now -1 de-compressing momentum forming the Mass and Acceleration equivalence principle F=ma.. . . Tap the side of a round bucket of water. . ..Because everything is formed by a surrounding 4pi Spherical Inward absorption +1=0 now -1 outward emission of electromagnetic waves.. . .Therefore Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle is the same uncertainty an observer, or observed will have with any future event.. . .And Schrodinger's Wave Equation represents the forward passage of time its self.. . .All motion is 2pi Spiral.. . .And all 3D directions are 4pi Spherically curved . . ..Thus Wave Centres are everywhere relative to an infinite future of potential possibilities continuously coming into +1=0 now -1 out of existence , forming the total amplitude of Sine Wavefronts at each and every point of space Compressing 3D Wave Centres of Energy +1=0 now -1 de-compressing Two Opposing Spiral Vortices.. . .Or Huygens Wavelets Contracting +1=0 now -1 expanding Virtual Pair's Spiralling out of existence.. . . This zero point field (Imploding positive energy compression contracting time and space now) is the very beginning of absolutely everything, giving us a starting point or concept of zero in out mathematics. . ..The Lorentz contraction of time and space is infinite within our Universe. . ..Atomic particles are really High Wave Amplitude 3D Wave Centres of Pure Vibration.. . .From regions of intense surrounding implosive wave pressure. . ..Made of Vibrating Wavefronts concentrically layered like onions called shells in particle physics, or Spherical Standing Wave Structures over a period of time before decaying back into the eternal Light.. . .Therefore every particle has two dipole energy resonance states known as antimatter matter annihilation.. . .

Ah...So, the universe conveniently accommodates the math geniuses by going about its business in a manner prescribed by their fancy math? Unfortunately, your video never lives up to its title..."what is Light"...a real, physical phenomenon.
