Firstly I always heard it as LGBTQ I A+ but seriously this all comes down to marketing. LGBT is catchy, easy to remember and fits easily on a sign. The longer the acronym the more unwieldy it is. It is much more efficient to list all the extra ones as being under the same LGBT umbrella than to expand the acronym ad nauseum. Take another acronym for a diverse group: BDSM now that one is a little more complicated as each possible pairing of letters means something but it leaves A LOT out. Still there's no push to add F for fetishists or P for poly. These people fit into BDSM communities but don't impact the acronym? Why? It's essentially brand recognition. People get the gist of it when you say and then, if they're interested (they likely aren't), they can ask you your individual specifics.

It's about feeling represented and equal. I agree the acronym shouldn't be too long, but there should be a plus on the end to signify there is more than just the four titular groups. That way it includes everyone and doesn't need to grow and become unwieldy.

but there are 3 minority main sexualities (Homosexuality LG, Bisexuality B, Asexuality A), and in the acronym only 2 are recognized (LGB) I do think only the main sexualities should be represented. all the rest (Demisexuality, pansexuality, and such) are sub categories basically.

@@somegirl4631 I wouldn't really consider them "sub classes" but there's a plus for a reason. I get we all wanna be included in the acronym or whatever but LGBTQ+ just seems easier to me. I'm pretty sure I'm in the plus category. (I don't think I'm straight pls don't come at meh) I'm not lesbian, bisexual, trans, and I'm not really questioning. I'm not gonna mention my sexuality because it's a painful thing to explain and not really relevant but even I think we should just leave it with LGBTQ+ because the plus covers a lot. Just my opinion tho

@@cyriswinters5233 the problem coming with that is that the A is a whole sexuality.we can't just brush a whole another sexuality under the plus. unlike the I and Q that can be represented in the T, nothing in the acronym fits Asexuality, well except the B (bisexuality used to have Asexuality in their umbrella in the 30's and in their manifesto) it also causes representation problem and we can see that with how many people never know about Asexuality. It's important that we at least would have the 3 main minorities sexualities in the acronym

I have a pretty good understanding of the Asexual Spectrum but explaining it to people is hard I'd you don't say "I can fall in love but sex is 🤮" (it's how I summed it up for my mom when I was talking about my research because it was late and I didn't want to get into it) The A stands for more than Asexuality btw Agender Aromatic Asexuality Abrosexual And any others I may be missing

@@xxxxxx-sx1ne no, q is questioning people, and queer. a is for asexual people, Aromantic, and people who sexuality's fall into the asexual spectrum. which is what I identify as is Asexual, Aromantic, Demisexual, and gray-pansexual. (All of the sexualitys fall into Asexual). In the world, there is so much sexualitys, you should just please respect it, because the LGBTQA+ community has been through so much. Also, people can't control what sexuality they end up with.

Adding more letters will make many to just give up on learning what used to be an easy acronym to remember. Might as well go back to using full on sentences and paragraphs for descriptors.

I think I can be of help. I don't know if you're still with him because this comment is old but maybe tell him this? (I'm not Non-binary I just wanna help. I have made it my mission to educate myself on these things) You fall somewhere between male and female but truly identify with neither. You don't feel like your both male and female but somewhere in the middle. Just because you were born with the female (or male idk) sex organs doesn't mean that's how you feel. Sex and gender is not the same. Sex is the body you were given and the certain reproductive things that come with it. Gender is whether you feel more feminine, masculine, both, in-between, etc. You just happen to feel in between and there's nothing you can do about that. It's just the way you are. This does not change me as a person I am the same person you always knew. I hope you understand. If you don't then I can always send you videos that may help you understand this better. U can use this for pretty much anyone. I hope this helps! And sorry for assuming you're born in the female body if that's incorrect. I really just read the name "Its Haylee" and thought you were born with the female reproductive organs. I also apologise if I got this wrong. I do lots of research between school so I hope I got this correct

Calling the LGBTQ+ community is the same thing as calling people who are religious by their religious affiliation... Baptists, Catholics, Episcopalians, Lutherans, Jahova's Wittness, Mennonites, If I were abbreviate those, it would be the same thing to others who have no idea what those abbreviation letters mean. Some people still don't know what the letters after the LGBTQ+ mean, and there are a lot of them.
