There is this "Alien" sound on the bus when you slow down or increase speed at times sounds like a space craft! Love the video too!

The sound comes on 0-24 mph. My understanding is other electric vehicles make noise so they aren't too quiet at low speeds.

Wow, that's one quiet looking bus, Also there's an alien sound on this vehicle between 0-25 miles per hour. Also that's why I perfur diesel, propane buses, gas buses & Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Jouley All-electric bus over this.

@trevor8419 the more efficiently you drive the bus, you will see you miles per charge range increase. Jack rabbit starts cut down the range big time. With practice, driving efficiently will become automatic.

Super cool video! Thanks for posting this. You mentioned trying to 'beat the bus' on efficiency. One of the biggest energy hogs is acceleration. I wonder if the engineers intentionally make the throttle control pedal a bit touchy to avoid the negative stigma electric vehicles used to have of being sluggish? It appears to have plenty of pickup and go. Did you find it hard to drive efficiently because of the pedal sensitivity? Your route seemed designed for inefficient stop-and-go. I wish traffic engineers could someday synchronize stop lights, but it is what it is. Also, my ears might be deceiving me but there seems to be a hum even when parked at an intersection. It's a very cool futuristic sound, but wonder if that is related to battery cooling fans or something.

When the bus is traveling at 24 mph or less there is a sound generator that kicks in and makes a sound. That is probably the sound you heard. If you stomp on it, hold on tight and away you go. Pedal sensitivity is not an issue, it's just a matter of changing ones personal driving habits. When you drive a CNG or a Diesel you stomp on the accelerator to take off and then ease off it when you get to the desired speed. With the electric bus you only need to use about a quarter to half as much pressure to get the same results. Optimum is "0" my average is -5. I did a video showing the efficiency gauge. The first thick yellow line is -5, the next to the left is -10 so on and so forth.

@@jonusle2937With this information in mind, I’m curious to wonder if the sound generator is equipped in the activity bluebird electric buses. I’d like to assume it is since certain transit buses also have the sound generator, but at the same time, some electric buses just don’t have the sound generator

@superbrownsheep3777 my understanding is that the sound generator for Blue Bird Electric Buses is one of 5 possible sounds. All of our transits have the same sound. Both 2018 & 2020 models.

The sound generator is a requirement in the state of California for speeds below 20-25 mph. Not sure about other states. At 30 mph you can sneak up on almost anyone.

Nice! One question though. Do you have to release the parking brake first before you can put it into gear or can you still put it in gear while the brake is on? Asking because if that's the case, it's no longer possible to "check" the parking brake during pre-trip.

When parking, I set the parking brake first and then select neutral.
