@@rj6300 Apologies for my sudden interruption, but I am 127 parallel universes ahead of you, sire. It is not my intent to boast, but I shall have you know that I do not need narcotics to make ruinous blunders. If you wish to show everyone that my statement contains fallacy, we can settle this with a duel. The rules of the duel are as follows: Preferrably, do not bring machine guns, or other such weaponry from the 20th century. The duel should end by sunset. You are not supposed to shoot when the adversary's back is turned, or when they are unable to respond to your attack. The venue shall be decided after your confirmation. If you win, I myself will say that my statement was false. If I win, I get permanent bragging rights.

I remember getting the deluxe edition in 7th grade and showed my bio teacher the game and the next day in class, she put on the the special edition documentary DVD which showed the game creator Will Wright showing off how CRISPR could make a chick that's born with teeth, scales and no feathers. The cell stage and animals stage were masterpieces. Cell stage and space stage always looked the coolest in the trailers. Wish it lived up to the hype in space stage. @@g_g... Oops, I didn't reply to the other person... I watched this over a yr ago but I'll do my best to remember my thoughts. This video was a very good answer if an alien came down and asked us what intelligence was. It's also a good history of intelligence but we're not really learning much from it as humans. What a lot of people don't know is that intelligence is a human construct - something we use to convey an idea that's not tangible- and it doesn't really exist. The definition of intelligence has always been a controversy because the human brain is too complicated for us to clearly define yet. For example, IQ used to be a single factor to measure overall intelligence but ppl started noticing that high IQ doesn't mean someone's necessarily "smart," so they came up with EQ and together they respectively measured, more or less, "logical ability" and "emotional quotient." They're still widely used but judging one's intelligence solely based on IQ and EQ would be dismissing countless aspects of it. Every single theory try to categorize every aspect of it (logical, linguistic, spatial, etc.) but that's impossible as these "traits" are more of a spectrum than a single concept. If it were up to me, I think I would've explained that we can never define intelligence until we understand our brain completely which I don't think is possible for a veryyyy long time. And then I would've talked about the prominent existing theories (gardner, g factor, etc.), and end it with some moral message about the misuse of any kind of intelligence tests (to provide some context, IQ testing was one of the major factor for why the holocaust happened).

Second if any of you remember the original Despicable Me, you Know there is a scene when Vector kidnaps the three girls and shoots a series of heat-seeking misses at Gru, he then dodge them all. According to the speed of an average ballistic missile (1900 mph) and the size of the missile according to his ankle size, Gru can perceive and move at such a speed that the missiles only move 9.5 miles per hour, 0.5% of their original speed. Plus after this Gru punches a shark and it is paralyzed meaning its spine is probably shattered, to remind you it would require a force greater than 3,000 newtons to fracture the spine. That’s equal to the impact created by a 500-pound car crashing into a wall at 30 miles per hour. I rest my case.

Being a stem cell biologist I can say that the definition of intelligence becomes more and more relevant in my field of research. Some years ago, protocols for the generation of so-called "brain organoids" have been developed. We usually make brain organoids from stem cells (which can be made from skin cells) and you can think of them as "petri dish brains" to some degree. Brain organoids form structures similar to the developing brain and they even can cause contraction in muscle cells. However, they are very unstructured and not considered as being conscious (I recently made a video about brain organoids!). In the nearer future, however, lab-grown intelligence might be a thing

Intelligence as thoughts is a tool, it is nothing to venerate or be proud of. Intelligence is matter contrasted with consciousness. The fungus or slime that grows intelligently is proof of the limit of this approach, this can only happen if you realize intelligence is related to consciousness, and consciousness is not matter. Wave particle duality and behaiour of electrons suggest this. the fungus has no memory and awareness and self but it exhibits just that. It also completely ignores the role emotions play in cognition. This has to do with awareness, Awareness of thoughts is something to be proud of, not thoughts. The value system underlying this video is that intelligence serves survival. This video is what Jiddu Krishnamurti means (1981 Amsterdam) when he says philosophers and scientists contribute to the problem. It also simply assumes that competition is something natural and good. Competition is a mistake (David Bohm). Creativity presented as a part of intelligence as well as the utilitarian, functional approach is unfortunate. Where does humor fit in here, compassion, forgiveness, consciousness. I found it disheartening and depressing.

I mean, whatever you come up with to describe that game, we would find that it's way to shallow to actually be called that. "Dancing simulator"? How that, with only about 4 different dance moves. "Creature Designer"? You can barely deviate from the standard vertebrate body plan. And every creature has to be made out of bubbles. "Educational software about evolution"? Well, you see, that's kind of nowhere near how evolution actually works and thus, will rise even more misconceptions. "A space adventure (with an overly long and tedious prelude)"? Hahahaha. No.

In my opinion, intelligence is a biomechanism or an ability to make any change. Like Jensen says that we have cognitive abilities and associative abilities which, as in Sternberg's theory, we use as meta component and on the basis of that we use information processing components. Our fluid intelligence make us solve problems and possess abstract, social and cognitive intelligence or crystal intelligence.

What the IQ measures is more logic and mathematics and a bit of critical thinking... but many people can't think like that.

Tipping over the container was probably the worst example from that study; especially since the scientists had fastened the container down so it wasn't trivial to tip over. My favorite was throwing a rock in so it splashed the marshmallow out.

Kurzgesagt animations are very child-friendly in both their visual and narrative style. Things are "dumbed down" just enough. And the style is amazing to look at, no matter the age. Don't know if you have these children yet, but when you do, I encourage showing some of these. Just watch out not to show too much stuff from the "Existential Crisis Playlist" so they can sleep at night :) Space videos though, I loved to get interested in space stuff when I was a child (still do at 29) and if only I had high-quality content like this to watch back at my school days, I'd have studied so much more of the things I'm truly interested in. I think it's important to show children that learning can be fun - and this channel is an excellent example. I am commenting directly to you in particular, because the topic of showing these to my child has been something I thought about as well. Even before I had any knowledge whether I'd even have a child at all, I decided these would be good stuff to show to younglings. Now I have a 1yr old son and even though he and his mother live in Germany away from me most of the time ( I live in Finland), my wish of showing these videos as a teaching tool is still possible, as Kurzgesagt is a German channel originally and they can now watch the German versions there ^^ Also.. I can never write, yet alone pronounce, the name correctly either and just call it "That good channel with ducks, death and Adobe Illustrator style vector graphics" and this generally gets the message across lol. All the best to you, blessings from the North from some random Internet dude :)

@@expred Hello to you Expred! Greetings from London! [American living in London]. I really do appreciate your response to me and I’m actually really happy I was able to generate some sort of mini conversation here! I commented because sometimes after their insightful, informative and thought provoking videos I love to see what other people think and then it dawned on me one day that I would love my children to be knowledgeable on things like this [relative to their age of course] it would be nice to introduce them to philosophical things and to get them asking interesting questions as well as knowing the science -Physics primarily and also as you said the amazingly cute animations! [they’re kid friendly and they don’t look super complicated either!] and that narrators videos is absolutely legendary!. It would be lovely for them to have a basic [even tho I don’t think their videos are basic at all! As you said they’re just dumbed down - they have this talent of explaining even hard concepts so simply!] Speaking on kids I don’t have any children currently - I’m 19. And on that I’ve actually been watching kurzgesart [I really hope I spelt it right!] for a few years now [since 2020 I used to also watch a similar channel called “What IF” for even longer I remember when I was 11 and I wrote an essay on a black hole swallowing a Magnetar - this is a type of neutron star]. Sorry I’ve gone off on one a bit there. Speaking on which I’m actually really happy the fact that they have videos in German which is their original language that you can show to your son! That’ll not only teach him new things [and honestly set him a bit ahead of his peers] but it’ll definitely help him with learning how to speak [however he might be a bit well spoken for such a young boy if he ends up liking their videos😊] Speaking on a long distance relationship me and my partner were long distance for a few months [Hes a Serbian that grew up in Italy and decided to move to London for a few years were I meant him then he left for a few months and then came back]. I might show him some of kurszgesagt videos! [again I hope I’ve spelt that right!, I probably haven’t] Anywho! Blessing to you and your family in Germany Expred! Good day!.😊✨🌸

@@x.astar.x Haha, unfortunately I have to inform your spelling of Kurzgesagt is still a bit off, that's alright. (I still have to double-check it every time lol. And my own spelling of even English is constantly off, I'm afraid). My ex (the German mother of my son) told me that the channel name is German and literally means "In a nutshell". The more you know! Your essay about a black hole gulping down a magnetar sounds pretty cool. I also think getting children interested in science and philosophy/psychology early on is important (I think the latter two go kind of hand in hand, though I recognize the differences). I always loved big questions, as a kid and still do. "Why are we conscious?" "What is beyond space?" "Has everything always been?" Stuff like this. I was endlessly curious and channels such as this definitely help me keep that sparkle of curiosity alive! Most importantly I think, the more you wonder about psychology and philosophy, the more you also tend to think about ethics, morality, and empathy. These are traits I would love my son to have; understanding the human mind well enough to understand other's suffering and happiness as well. Though being very empathetic can be a curse as well as a blessing, I still think it's one of the most important things in life. (Empathy towards others). I watch plenty of space channels but can't really think of other channels with such nice child-friendly visuals to go with these topics, and also Kurzgesagt channel(s, they have many in different languages) cover a wide range of other topics. I would suggest, (to you, not exactly to children though) channels called PBS Space Time, along with SEA and Cool Worlds. Just a few from the top of my head, since I thought you might find them interesting. All of these are science channels, with emphasis on space stuff. Have a nice day as well :)
