Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban traveled to the US state of Florida on Thursday, where he met with former President Donald Trump following a NATO summit in Washington.
The meeting is part of Orban's self-proclaimed "peace mission" to end Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It is likely to add to frustration among Western allies over similar secret trips he has made to Russia and China in the past few days.

@@Zockopa Diplomatic efforts like the Minsk Accords had been broken many times. The ruler in the Kremlin wanted to annex land very similar to the big idol from Austria, although it was made clear from all member nations of the European Council that Munich' 38 won't be repeated. This basics for any further diplomacy hadn't been accepted at all. Putler has ended diplomacy in 2022 and chose war.
My understanding of geopolitics isn’t in doubt….However, I honestly don’t care where peace comes from. WE SIMPLY NEED PEACE. TOO MANY YOUNG MEN HAVE DIED. Enough is enough. There’s nothing to be gained in a war of attrition. This war will end in some form of settled negotiation. The earlier we start talking with both parties, the better. Ignoring Russia during peace talks doesn’t do the world any good. We need both parties at the table

You want peace? Go to Russia and tell them to immediately withdraw from the sovereign territory of Ukraine and pay reparations for the damage it has caused to the infrastructure and the scars it left on the nation's hearts. Nothing wrong with seeking peace. I’m more cautious about how trendy words are used. I recall hearing the words « special military operation ». It is unusual to see this much effort for « peace » when it’s only a special military operation at hand. Then again, it could be possible that one of these terms is not used correctly.

He's not seeking for peace. He's seeking for Ukraine to surrender to Russia. How about he lobbies Putin to leave Ukraine, and return his troops to within his own borders? That would also be peace, and more importantly, would not reward war, which is the opposite of peace. Russia broke the peace, it makes sense that they should stop their illegal war so PEACE like we had before can occur.

Putin invaded Ukraine, a sovereign country protected by the Budapesr Agreement in which Russia and others promised to protect Ukrainian soveregnity in return for Ukraine giving up its nuclear arsenal (the third largest ) to Russia.
Peace missions seek to achieve what else but peace.

If NATO is not doing anything for peace, let Orban do it. What's wrong. the EU is economically paralyzed, German and French markets at doldrums as China closed doors. @@bradleyroth9870 What are you talking about. There is no Ukraine since coup d'etat 2014. There are four regions of former Ukraine which belongs to the Russian Federation and when NATO proxy leave those regions and rest of the Ukraine accept neutrality they may talk about peace.

@@markojuric4954 Not really. The Soviet Union had onlyn 15 republics. Hungary was not part of the Soviet Union. Like East Germany was not the part of the Soviet Union eirher. .. Anyway, Hungary wanted to get rid of the influence of the USSR in 1956. And Hungary helped Eastern-Germany (jn 1989) to unite with West Germany. Hungary let tourists from Eastern Germany go from Hungary to Austria.
What is he trying to achieve? It’s called peace.

Exactly. They are trying so hard to paint the democratically-elected leader of a NATO country as an authoritarian dictator simply because he doesn't agree on every single issue. He is in NATO for a reason, but he's being treated as if he's Putin's stooge for ostensibly trying to negotiate a settlement.

Doing that is not peace, but rewarding Putin for committing mass murder. Plus Russia just wants to use "peace" to have time to re-arm its army and invading again.
