If you are really into 4K and have a good TV (Sony 800 & up, Samsung Q70 & up, LG 8000 Series to OLED) it should up scale. I DO want the HDR, but it really isn't a deal breaking when you factor in the catalogue.

HBO could have reduced the amount of confusion by just saying they're changing their name to HBO Max and adding some content.

That's the only downside I see for now: their shit launch. Otherwise they have more content than all others other than Netflix, which has a ton of bleh content. If they release some good originals in addition to HBO not going downhill then it should match or beat netflix imo

I have HBO Now through Roku and I've decided I will cancel my subscription a day before payments due and subscribe to HBO Max. If you have a smart TV you can still subscribe to HBO Max or you can add it in KZread TV

HBO Max needs 4K and atmos support to compete with Amazon, Netflix, Disney+ and Apple

Last week "HBO Now" worked to stream from my Lonovo Android tablet to Chromecast. Now it says "HBO Max." My current provider is unsupported. My provider being Spectrum. Looks like it's back to the Pirate Bay for me!

My HBO Now app magically turned into HBO Max, so there ya go

There is absolutely no 4K content. For it being the last streaming service up , most expensive in general , but zero 4K hdr content. I think it’s weak. Variety good , but who wants to watch in standard hd in 2020

Sincerely, HBO was alright being alone. Most of the new content of Max is focused in lovers of animation, which I don't see very compatible with TBS, TNT and WB stuff either. And based on the price, why should I have to pay for 1 single streaming service, when I could own 3, 4 or even 5 of them with the same amount of money?

HBO Max has already confirmed that 4K HDR will be coming in the near future. Just not at launch. Not everything is in 4K HDR on Netflix, Amazon, Disney+ either. Disney+'s 4K collection is pretry small.

I seriously can't tell that much of a difference on my 65inch 4k tv vs 1080p content. Maybe if the screen was much bigger I'd be able to see the appeal, but I can't see why anyone is caring about 4k if you have anything less than 75 inches. And I say this as someone who works in animation and video production and I'm completely anal about picture quality. I think many people have been brainwashed by the 4k buzzword. Not saying that's you, because I don't know your TV setup.

I have HBO as an add on to my Hulu account. HBO MAX through Hulu doesn't seem to be the same as using the HBO MAX app. There is missing content. I downloaded the app on my Apple TV and signed in with my Hulu account. I now have a fully functional app.

How about quality: Dolby vision,Dolby atmos?

On HBO Max, Sesame Street was mistaken as a Warner Bros. show. I don't think Warner Bros. will acquire the rights to Sesame Street from Sesame Workshop, not even next year.

Still waiting for HBO Max on Roku.

I singed up to DISNEY + WHEN THEY started , they HAD THAT 3 YEARS promotion & already paid at once ..i guess i have it for 2 more years , basically finished up for me like $4.50 a month for 3 years ...F*n AWESOME ....ssshit i have HBO, such as now is HBOMAX for over a decade & LOVIN it more these days , alots contents , theater warren brothers movies & alot more just awesome LOVE IT and i would NEVER cancel HBOMAX & NEVER did over the decade anyway, Good stuffs

Honestly, HBO Max is kind of a letdown for me right now. Back when they made the announcement I looked up what movies that were Warner Brothers and got really excited. However of about 30 movies that I was looking for NONE of them are on HBO Max, not one single one.

Dude you wanted all the libraries on the launch date? not even Netflix did that. It's obvious that HBO Max will add more stuff month per month. They have to test waters first as all businesses do. Disney+ did the same, not all of the content is there right now.

Lack of good 4k content is really hurting it.

I get HBOMax for free since it is part of my AT&T phone bill. The site layout is horrible and needs an update already. Also when searching they are missing a lot of desired stuff at launch. They could have used Disney+ as an example as to how to make a great site, even though it has a few flaws as well.

Finally harry potter found a home !

I will swith Starz out with HBO Max. I get it through KZread TV. I had the big promotion loaded with all premium brands. At the end of the promotion, I kept Starz to watch Powers, but Powers has not returned yet. I believe it's due to the pandemic. Even if Powers come back I am still switching to just one premium HBO Max. Starz alone is that damn BORING, if anyone's wondering. Starz is only good as an extra. Also, if anyone is wondering.....the TV-KZread app is awesome 👌. It's better than Sling to me.

I would say no. HBO Max is not on Roku & Fire TV officially. It is available as an add on for Hulu & KZread TV. However you have to use your TV prover log in to access the HBO Max exclusive content. Plus HBO Max is too expensive. Cinemax is a better deal. Disney+ is more affordable. Netflix one screen SD plan is cheaper. Friends & The Big Bang Theory are still on local channels & TBS.

*HBO MAX is better than Netflix, Disney Plus and ad free Hulu.*I have it. Great programming. It's free on Xfinity if, you're paying for HBO. I also have 4K Chromecast on every TV so, I can watch it on the big screen. I was watching a Batman cartoon called, The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and the picture and sound was INCREDIBLE. Thank you HBO. I LOVE 💘 HBO MAX.

Where’s the 4k!

I hate that DC content is split between DC Universe and HBO Max. I think I already have more streaming services than I can handle, but until DCU gets folded in to HBO Max (preferably with the digital comic books), then I'm simply not interested in HBO Max.

I’m in the UK 🇬🇧 and I think hbo max be a while for us to get it as many hbo shows gets shown on Sky . Maybe once the contracts for the shows and films expire then hbo max can be a thing in the UK 🇬🇧. Seems pricey but will wait if it comes to uk 🇬🇧

You made an error. I subscribe to HBO through Comcast/Xfinity and I do NOT have access to HBOMAX. I would have to subscribe to MAX separately, which is bullshit.

I don't live in u.s Btw Should I get it? Roku & Amazon are working out a deal for HBO Max...but I just installed it on my PS4 Pro for now.

I went ahead and subscribed to HBO just to try out HBO MAX and so far on day 1 I am really seeing alot of value in the service but the biggest question when will HBO start to offer 4k content

I subscribe to HBO through my cable (Comcast😒) provider. I am addicted to my Tivo but it doesn't always get along with Comcast. HBO GO comes with my Comcast subscription, but sadly it did not automagically transform into HBO MAX as I have heard has happened for other people. Also, HBO GO doesn't work with a Tivo/Comcast setup. So I can only watch it on my phone or computer. There is ONE show, and one show only, that I am dying to see on my big TV. I am so sad you didn't mention it. If they did it well, it should be groundbreaking. Other shows have danced around the periphery of it (Pose, My House), but not one has shown the full competition. Of course I am talking about "Legendary", the first real Ballroom competition show ever to be produced on television. It makes no sense to try to see all that splendor on a tiny screen. I will definitely subscribe just as soon as I can be sure to see it on my Sony TV.

I just checked my hulu account. To add hbo max it is 15 bucks. So basically no savings at all. And my new LG C9 tv doesn't offer any HBO apps, way to go LG lol. And from reading the comments it doesn't look like my Roku device will do it either. I guess about the only way I could do it is stream it from my computer. Also I just checked the video and audio specs and it's nothing special. No 4K content or HDR/dolbyvision and you are probably lucky if you get 5.1 sound. For the money I think they need to step up their game a little. Then again if you love HBO content it might be worth the money as long as they don't start dropping older shows out of the line up. Buying a series on blu ray would be MUCH more expensive.
