The faith in Martin luthers day was the just shall live by faith.....that was it....faith wasn't the guy who knew the bible more or better than Martin luther.....that was the rock the church was built upon for that day and hour Then the faith in john Wesley's day was sanctification And holiness....faith is a revelation....that was the rock the church was built upon for that day and hour.....the Lutherans and catholics might have had alot of phds who knew the bible better but none of them were in the faith rejecting that.... @pengwin catholics teach revelation ceased with the apostles which is a lie.... Faith and revelation are synonymous.....Jesus christ said i thank you father for hiding these things from the wise and prudent ( the highly educated and phds) and revealing them unto babes such as would learn.... God reveals to all his sheep or children the things pertaining to God....it didn't stop with the apostles which is a lie.....without faith or a revelation from God you can't be saved.....it takes faith or revelation to be saved.... That's why the catholic teaching that revelation ceased with apostles is rediculous and nothing but a lie....

@pengwin faith is the scripture that God is interpreting or revealing for your day and hour..... Like peter in acts said this is that which was spoke of by the prophet joel.... God was interpreting or revealing joel chapter 2 for that day and hour....that was the faith or revelation the church is built upon..... The rock that Jesus Christ said the church is built upon is revelation.....it is not built upon peter.... Revelation or faith is the rock or foundation of the church....that's why it says add to your faith virtue and virtue knowledge....etc Because faith or revelation is the foundation of the church not peter....that is the rock the church is built upon

I had never heard of RC Sproul until several years after he was gone. I’m so grateful for his video and audio teachings. They have greatly impacted my life. His faithfulness will continue change lives until Jesus returns!!!

Whenever I think I've seen all the videos of our beloved Dr. Sproul, here comes another gem that I haven't seen that edifies me and puts a smile on my face. Thank you Lord, for gracing us with this man.

A refreshing drink of RC Sproula. Doctrinal clarity and understanding of God’s truth. God grants true repentance through the clarion call to repentance by His grace, grants us the gift of grace through faith, grants us a faith to believe. A genuine saving faith. Beyond man’s deceptive philosophy. Imputed righteousness and justification and sanctification on to glorification. The Nicene Creed is our affirmation of belief.

How did this man get so much insight...my guess ...constant contact with God. Amazing, simply amazing

Faith is a deeper version of hope. You don't hope for something to be or to happen unless it's unlikely to be or happen. Faith is the same way, faith wouldn't be required if it's a sure thing or self evident.

*FAITH , is the belief in that which is unseen, which has given us hope of that which was promised....will come to pass !*

Integrating this definition with faith as described in Karl Barth's exposition of Romans is an interesting thought. Barth was pretty adamant about the irrationality of faith, but it doesn't have to oppose reason, faith stands over and above reason. Reason tells us that this cold indifferent universe will continually ignore us until we all perish and then itself dies, but faith sees this and hopes anyway. The one bearing this faith does not deny what reason reveals, but he sees a higher revelation in the timeless uncreated unknowable God, he sees it so clearly that he hopes for the glorious revealing of Jesus in the last day, and she hopes for the promised resurrection that defies all logic, and they show their hope in love mirroring the love of God who made our faith even before he made us to believe in him.

Vintage Sproul. Everything starts here, senses, reason, belief, and acting on it to assent to Jesus as Lord. Philosophy, Theology, Science, they all become amalgamated here as the Foundation of Faith, and NOT Superstition or Credulity. This lecture is likely the essence of everything that follows within the archives of the Ligonier Teaching Series of RC Sproul.

@@gregorymiseyko5035 1991-1993 still looked like the 80's, just as 1960-1962 still looked like the 50's. The prior decade usually seeps into the proceeding decade by about 3 years, the fourth year setting the decades apart.

RC Sproul and John MacArthur are gifts from our Lord. Sound doctrine is becoming increasingly uncommon nowadays.

Wheen you can see what the works of faith are, since faith without works is dead...then you will be able to believe by faith. For faith has to have knowledge we perish for the lack of. And this knowledge can only be found by walking in the Way in/of Jesus.

It seems to me that the way RC explained fiduciary faith is very compatible with the Catholic understanding of fides formata caritate ( faith formed by love and guided by hope). This understanding unites the three theological virtues to a saving object which is faith, hope(trust), and love. I as a Catholic believe that we are justified by this type of faith alone. I argue that Trent does not reject justification by faith alone but faith that is alone. A faith absent of hope, and love poured into the heart of the believer does not save. Sproul here describes fiduciary faith as not only possessing hope and trust but also containing the love of God. I feel this lines up with Aquinas and the Catholic church. I feel that the reformed understanding of justification and the Catholic understanding of justification is closer than people think. Sometimes when Catholic apologist totally reject faith alone, they are rejecting Aquinas himself. " if Luther in his teaching of sola fide speaks of a faith that is not opposed to love then he would be right"~ pope Benedict XVI

Faith is a revelation.....faith is not something you get from education or going to school.... Faith is sovereignly given by God.... Faith cometh by hearing the word...and how can a man hear accept there be a preacher....and how can you have a preacher accept he be sent by God....meaning sovereignly chosen by God not chosen by some vote by a counsel of bishops junk....

The basis, the foundation, of any degree of faith is based on holy scriptures. If you believe it is the inspired word of God then having faith is the logical result. So simple a blind man can find it. Satan desires to steal it and make you doubt. Stand on God's promise to you, that you are redeemed by the blood of Christ.

Romans 10 : 17.

When boasting that spiritual life for human "souls" is everlasting, humans disrespect all other forms of life. I suggest that we have two choices. We can either believe that a creator created a plan where suffering exists in all forms of life ... or ... we can believe that suffering is natural, because the universe always existed. I choose the second way of believing.

What you suggest is irrelevant. God is holy and sovereign. Man in sinful. God created a perfect world. Suffering entered when man sinned by willfully choosing to disobey God. Which is why man needs a savior. Mans spirit will live eternally because that's the way the eternal God created it. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The wages of sin is death. Repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.

@@TheJpep2424 If those in religion taught that there is only one place to go in an afterlife, and it is a divine place, where every soul is treated with the utmost kindness, and nothing but love ... even though I am not any longer religious, I would believe that the story couldn't do any harm. But the story doesn't end there. It goes on to state (as literal truth) that most souls will go to a very bad place in the hereafter, where they will suffer for eternity ... and that is what I have against religion. I am now 81 years of age, and feel whole, just as I am, and I won't allow those in religions to ever take that feeling of peace away from me again.

Without religious teachers to persuade them that a soul, and a spirit, and a judge-mental god, and a heaven or a hell exists, they would live and die as do other animals. They would have indoctrinated each other ... plain, and simple.

@@junevandermark952 I do not look for, nor need, a feeling of peace. I need actual peace. Jesus has become my Peace.

'Faith' might not even be the right word. We have faith in the sunrise. It's not necessarily guaranteed but the consistency is there. Without any way of validating the existence of a God or lack there of, you give something for nothing except a verbal conformation that can't be confirmed. If your waiting on something that you can't prove is on the way, that's not faith. What your experiencing is hope. Your putting in the work, so you hope it's there. Hope.

Faith, John 3:16-18. Jesus said it, we believe it, and that settles it. John 6:47. The simplicity of the gospel. First Corinthians 15:1-4. Acts 16:31.

Essential doctrine to be considered to be a true Christian. This is not taught much anymore 😔

In the gospels, Jesus stated: if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will be able to move mountains. This statement is a misinterpretation of what Jesus truly said and it reveals how the disciples and gospelers misunderstood the teachings of Jesus. If a person are to have "faith" the size of a mustard seed - what does that mean? How can you measure faith in such a way? Faith is faith. It is the "power of total conviction" in the mind, possessing the mind, and it cannot be restricted in "size." Faith, arising out of your need to believe in something, because such a belief will serve your purposes in some way, can be powerful and strong, but never can it be estimated in "size!" Belief is even stronger. Belief is the offspring of hearsay and logic. Because you have heard something and you have been convinced that what you have heard or read is true, you develop a deep belief in what you have heard. You believe it to be true. You believe in a total, complete way which defies contradiction. Jesus was constantly telling people: "Believe you will receive - and you will receive." However, Jesus knew at the time, that it would be almost impossible for people to ever have the faith which would cause miracles to happen, since no matter how much Jesus might explain Truth to people, they would still never have the intense knowing given Jesus in the desert. Up to this time, some people have had faith in "Jesus Christ" but they have been like precocious children. Their faith has been partially blind and accepting, yet interwoven with much doubt. Therefore, whatever they needed to be done for them, they depended on "Jesus" for the work to be accomplished. Whereas, in fact, much of what they believe they have derived directly from "Jesus" has been their own "faith in Jesus" made visible in the form of things asked for. While this child-like "faith" is very important to our well-being, those who are capable of moving onward on the spiritual path to perfection, must now reach a deeper level of true knowledge of the relation between mind and "matter." Without this foundation, people will continue to flounder in myths and will be locked into the misery of the human condition.

Not to be rude, but none of the verses you listed actually explains what faith looks like. RC does a great job in this video explaining what it looks like with scriptural passages.The Hebrews 12:2 passage says that Jesus is the perfecter of Faith, but we still need to know what faith actually is.

Eating an apple to the 'core' is the only way to eat an apple.

Stop listening to a teacher of your own choice, folks. A man-made gospel does not bring anyone anywhere - except where you really do not want to go. Read the early Church to get to know the Gospel and come to follow Jesus. Not any man will bring you salvation - not even this one.

They all bring you different and contradictory teachings: they all bring you their own opinions and ideas. That is all they bring you; all of them. We are not called to follow a man of our choice: we are called to follow Jesus Who is the Truth. This man did not bring anyone to Jesus Christ, yet he brought many to Jesus Sproul. Another Jesus; another Gospel: all man-made. Read Paul and John and the early Church on the subject, my friend.

Do you think all these man-made gospels are from God or from men?? Wake up, my friend. This man is one among many: an self-declared teacher of the Gospel, and they all come up with their own truth and gospel. Why would this man be any better or different compared to other men who do exactly the same: composing their own truth and gospel? It is all hard to believe. Nobody will be saved by a man-made gospel, my friend. It is no rocket science.

If you didn't know what a "Biscuit" was & had never seen or eaten one and I told you, "It's the thing that makes any meal better, And once you've tried them you will be convinced they are wonderful!" That still doesn't tell you what biscuits are. Hebrews 11:1 says that "things hoped for" are made out of faith. That's not descriptive of what faith is, it tells is that the "things hoped for" are made out of faith.

Having been a Manichean Gnostic Augustine polluted the gospel with those teachings
