What is DEATHSTEP music really?

Музыка

Hey hey, Heavy music fans :)
In this video, we look at the definition of Deathstep - both from a technical and from a 'goofy' point of view.
These answers have been collected from Deathstep producers who have been making this genre for many many years.
For a genre like Deathstep that evolves with every new song and every new producer, a standard definition is difficult because it restricts the level of experimentation. So keeping that in mind, if you'd like to add anything to this, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments.
If you'd like to know more about Deathstep and its producers, be sure to grab a copy of the first ever book on the history of Deathstep!

Well. I aint holding back on this one xD When people asks me what Deathstep is my answer is very simple... If i would ever commit a murder i’d surely listen to Deathstep since alot of people i have shown it to think it’s psycho sounds. AND if anybody by any means says ”so it’s like deathmetal?” Ok... if im commiting murder i’d listen to deathmetal. And if i’d want to keep it going for a killing spree i’d defenitely listen to Deathstep :D

Deathstep in musical terms is one of five subgenres of dubstep: melodic, riddim, mid-tempo, deathstep itself, and tearout. Deathstep in particular unlike the others focuses on more metallic and gritty timbre qualities, emphasizing keeping time with a snare (most notably a pan snare) instead of a kick drum, and also emphasizing orchestral instrumentation to accompany the main bases, especially with the use of a sampled choir.

Deathstep is more clunky drum sounds, down tuned vocals or guttural screaming, and some guitars start to seep back in the production. Bass is more downtuned than Brostep uses. Movie dialogue or orchestral samples are often used either in the intros or when a transition is about to hit.

As someone that listens to plenty of metal (especially death metal), when I listened to some deathstep, the overall musical structural reminds me of metal. I want to say the musical structure bares some resemblance to death metal, but I feel like that’s getting too specific a tad bit. Overall, I quite like deathstep, it vaguely reminds me of death metal due to its down-tuned instrumentals and somewhat similar musical structure.
