That feeling you have on the bus riding to basic is indescribable. It was dead silent. I remember when we pulled up and saw all the drills waiting for us, someone said “why did I do this” lol

So strange seeing women in ranks and on the bus ride to Basic. We were always separated except at church on Sundays. We only saw females' marching by. that was it.
The young lady on the cover for this video is my niece, Shomari who just graduated on October 19th, 2023 and I and our family was there at Fort Jackson in Columbia to support her. Good job Shomari have a wonderful military career 💕

I am a disabled army veteran. But my biggest piece of advice for people going into basic training is go in already in shape. I did this and it helped greatly. Especially in the early parts of basic.

preparing psychologically wouldn't be a bad idea to, specially by the USMC. to not lose focus when the DIs testing you with their brutel mind games.
If you ever decide to do this, push yourself in every way to make it through. This will be one of the most important decisions u make in your life. It won’t be easy but it’s doable. If others have done it, u can do it too. Victory starts here. #armystrong
Biggest tip for reception in basic training, watch out for the civilian workers. They are not gods or above you, if they are giving you bad gear/ non fitting uniforms. Politely make sure you go back and get the right stuff. especially when it comes to footwear. I kept telling the worker they didn’t fit and she said she has been doing it for years and knows what fits. 3 days later my feet were messed up from bad boots and had to go back to get good fitting ones. They also gave me the wrong size patrol cap and dress blues saying “ you’ll stay smaller in the Army” shockingly a 17 year old got larger and by 20 my dress uniform would not fit my legs or shoulders.
This was day zero, June 27th, 2023. I was there. I even see myself in a few frames. Feels like it was just yesterday I stepped off the plane into that South Carolina heat. And now I'm here today. A soldier.

I was nervous as hell back in 2007 but it was the best choice I ever made for myself. Good luck everyone who makes it through training. If you join now you are lucky you didn't join during a war. Lets keep it that way!
Congrats on anyone joining the military. Don't worry, your friends will still be back home, smoking weed and doing nothing when you get out. The #1 advice about getting through basic training that nobody ever talks about is sleep. You are not used to being sleep deprived and you will face this in basic training. This is one of the biggest changes coming that you are NOT used to. You will have to get up at 3:00 in the morning to pull a 2 hours guard duty, or maybe you have to get up at 1:00 AM for a 2 hour guard duty. Then you have to get up at 5 am to start your day. Many of the struggles in basic training that you will face are simply because you are tired as fuck. What you want to do is get ALL teh sleep you can when you are afforded the time to do so. It will serve you well.

Haha they were still doing that when I got back from deployment in 03 and I went to basic in 99. Went in the national guard till 07 came back in leave they were still broken.
Best decision I ever made! I get emotional watching this video. Much love and respect for all fellow and future Soldiers. Army Strong! 🇺🇸 ❤
Retired after years and I still get up at 5am to go that run.
My son joined in January. He's honest that active duty isn't for him, but he appreciates the experience so far. I was active duty Navy for 14 years, and I would do it again. Know why you're joining and commit to it. Learn what you can. It can open your eyes to the world, and you can find out what you are made of.

Letters are always better and write on Sunday they will get them on Friday.
Wow. This brings abck so many memories. My BT was at Ft. McClellan , AL August to October 1983. I learned alot, sweated a lot, and did a lot I did not know I could do! The Most moving moment was my first Command Retreat! The chills at my first salute as BT began, is something I will never forget! @@goarmy I loved it. I was planning to go the distance until I got banged up in 2004 while deployed to Iraq. I loved the Army and everything about the Army. Truly the best job I ever had.
Boy the Army has really toned down then how I remember. February to May 2013 Fort Leonard Wood. Drill Sergeants we’re cursing, screaming and throwing all our gear across the parade deck. Times have certainly changed.
Wow, many things have changed. 1989 at Ft. Knox was a lot more yelling with many expletives, and many stressful days. Drill Sgt's were a lot more "hands on", so to speak. I hope this new approach with recruits will turn out quality troops. Time will tell.

I came to fort Jackson about a month before this video came out, and I will say that this is pretty accurate to what you’ll experience in the first day (albeit was a little bit more laid back because I arrived to 120th in the middle of night so there was not very many personnel present)
I'm joining soon and I'm nervous, excited, the whole range of emotions. But the bottom line is I'm ready.
I remember DS Skippier from my arrival. I think it was around 2 am almost a year ago when I got there so, I might of been really tired or he was a funny guy. This is a nice flashback and I hope all the future soldiers find the reselience to pass BCT. Your parents may be scared but really your decision to serve or not has little to do with them. It is your decision whether or not to enlist not theirs. Every able bodied citizen has that right. The Army doesn't need people who are trying to rebel against nor please their parents. Its needs people of substance who are willing to develop themselves into leaders and go forward when the people of this nation call them to act. Good luck with your decision.

Wow how things changed. When I enlisted I had no drill Sgt or anything meet me at the airport. I made it to ft sill by myself meet a few guys cause our planes got delayed stayed in a hotel with 4 other guys. Next morning shipped out to ft sill. ..... got there put on a cattle truck yelled at as soon as we got off. There was no nice .
As a Naval Veteran who was in from 2001-2006 I garuntee you that most veterans who were in around the same time feel that the military got exactly what they deserved.....Most of us loved our country & wanted to continue to serve it, but got pushed out 1st enlistment due to something called higher tenior that basically meant unless you were a perfect sailor your first enlistment we don't want you.
Crazy to think every Sergeant Major was there once
