In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens kzread.infoUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

Is there anything like this that makes a 3-D map?

so its a broadband sonar.. say no more. theres a reason military sonars moved away from the old single frequency "ping" years and years ago. Its really cool to see the horsepower to process all this data in a single console mount unit

Ya' all had me laughing... @0:18 "Let me break it down in layman's terms so you can understand.... " & then changed narrators?? Now, THAT is funny... You weren't able to explain it yourself!!! (still a good video though)

“Compressed High Intensity Radar Pulse.” Technically it should radiated not radar.

These new "MEGA" fish finders were born from advancements in the millimeter wave radar automotive market. Texas Instruments, Analog Devices and others have advanced the chip sets to apply FMCW radar techniques to the sonar world. Devices like PLL sweeper chips and multi channel simultaneous sampling analog to digital converters have been reduced to single chip solutions. In sonar, the wave propagation travels thru water not air, this is what limits the range at the MEGA frequencies. The high frequencies used during the sweep tuning ramp are responsible for the greatly improved target separation. Large scale integration and improved ceramics have enabled Humminbird to pack all the complex circuitry in the new MEGA live potted transducer.
