What is Autogenous Welding? 3 Examples

Ғылым және технология

weldmongerstore.com/collectio...
A really simple definition for Autogenous welding is "welding without filler metal."
In this video, I show 3 examples of autogenous tig welding.
16ga stainless lap joint
sanitary tubing
outside corner on 18 ga steel
along with pulse settings for lap and corner joints.

Thanks for sharing with us Jody, that's farther along than I will ever get with my welding but enjoy seeing it. Fred.

Learned to do with with a O/A about 40 years ago in HS--can't wait to give it a go with a TIG machine and Argon.

Love the vids and my new prime weld. 225. Fun welding all the stuff I never could. I still struggle with those fusion tacks. I’ll have to try smaller cup higher amps to blast tack it.

Hmm, OK. I watched the 5 minute video to find out what autogenous welding is but I still don't know. I can only assume it's TIG welding without using any filler rod?

Great stuff. If I may ask , what is the difference in the cheaper Amazon cups and lenses, and Weldmonger cups and lenses ? Can't find anyone addressing this.

Great video Jody. How do you do this with a Prime Weld machine? On a off topic, does anyone know why You Tube has started adding four digit numbers to our names? all of a sudden they've added 1582 to mine.

I'd say learning how to weld like this, without filler, makes learning TIG much easier.

Lately, it seems my jobs have (almost all) been best performed using autogenous welding techniques. Since I only have a 10 yo Miller Divergence, there aren't many settings with it. I've used it to stick weld using any number of gasses to keep it cool ... dry air, dry CO2, dry Nitrogen all seem to work fine with no problems returning to Argon. Anyway, it's time to 'upgrade' to machines where the process can be bettter-tuned to the jobs.

What is "background" current? IS that basically the minimum that it drops to before pulsing again? So for 20% background at 69 amps- It pulses to 69 and then drops to 20% of 69 (which would be 13.8 amps) and repeats at your pps rate? Or is the 20% like a duty cycle? I seen on another video that you can change duty cycle for a "cleaning" effect; so background probably isn't' that I'm assuming..

Don't forget hi freq pulse. Useful for when your machine can't go low enough or you want more range on the pedal.
