Being Catholic it always made me mad when my history teacher had no clue what an indulgence was the remit temporal punishment in purgatory they dont send yiu to heaven.

But they can get you to heaven faster.

Indulgences don’t forgive sins. Confession was always required for that.

The theological explanation of indulgencies is wrong. The rest very useful.

If I may correct your teaching on the Catholic doctrine of indulgences: indulgences arent given for the forgiveness of sins, they are given for the remission of temporal punishment do to the sins which have already been forgiven. After christ forgives our sins, Christians still must pay the consequences for the sins they commit; a good example of this is king David's sin.

Good work really made me understand what an indulgence is.

Never ever ever heard a proper explanation or understanding of Indulgences by someone who is non Catholic. Almost like a mental block, something they can't wrap their heads around even highly educated individuals

Wasn't there also a transition into the idea of money purchasing an indulgence because those who did not actually go on crusade could still support the cause financially?

Finally! A nice clear explanation of a very fuzzy-headed time for the Church. That must have been a huge drop in revenue with recent The Sistine Chapel and funding the Crusades (et al.). Who was putting money in the collection plate afterwards?

People... do not be deceived. Galatians 2:16 Yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. The Pope has no authority to say how anything should be justified or practiced it’s Jesus Christ alone who came to full fill the law and it is only HE you should follow not what another sinner has to say. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Repent of your sins and become renewed by the Holy Spirit. Be born again and adopted into Christ’s kingdom. Only then will you walk along side our savior and act as he did.

Hi, Tom. I´d like to make a few comments about your video. Indulgences are about the temporal punishment due to sins. It works like this: first, one needs to repent, and then confess their sins to a priest or bishop. The sins are forgiven, but the temporal punishment of sin remains. For example, if a person dies immediately after confession, they might still have to go through Purgatory. Noone stays in Purgatory forever and everyone there goes to Heaven after their purification. So the person in your example who “killed a guy” would not have his sin forgiven through indulgences. First, he needed to truly repent and confess. That´s what would grant him forgiveness. The indulgences could only help him with the temporal punishment. Why would any catholic have to go to purgatory, if jesus already paid for their sins, Jesus said we cant pay for our sins to go to heaven, only jesus can do that, we as individual, for our rightiousness is like filty rags Basically cathosism is saying purgatory is a partial self way of salvation For this is how I understand it my friend Not judging anyone but helping one see, that we can't do nothing for our selves when it come t salvation, all we can do is repent and except his gift at the cross and at all times be ready for our time to come to this end, after death judgment take place.

not only the pope , but each and every catholic priest can forgive sins through the sacrament of confession . this is due to the fact that christ gave his apostles to forgive sins in the bible . and after their death through apostolic succession this power is given to the successive generations.

Only by faith in Jesus is a man made righteous, and confession of that faith brings salvation. Not confession of sins to a man in a box.

@@venitawilliams9625 "3 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” john 20:23 It's not the Priest forgiving the sins that matters, but God forgiving the sins. When the priest forgives the sins, God does.

Indulgence is some thing to involve in Sins and then punishment take place.. Augustans are not agree with indulgence
