I love this game. As an American I get the game because I have watched it since childhood. What I don't know is, how the draft works? How free agency works? And other basic, player based powers happen.

That was wonderful ..You really nailed it .. I know that if our game got proper exposure overseas it'd soon rival soccer . I do like rugby union ...Don't dislike soccer...not a big fan of rugby league and just can't fathom american football but Aussie Rules rules them all I reckon ...Thanks again for a fantastic and enthusiastic summary of the great game..

Well I guess you're right haha, we take this great game for granted, we just knew how it worked from before we could remember haha. But I have since gone through similar experiences of learning other sports, about 6 years ago I started watching Rugby occasionally and had no clue really, other than you needed to take the ball to the other end and touch it on the ground. I didn't know the difference between League and Union, but then I started watching it more and became passionate in 2019, watching every game and going to my first interstate game, Storm belted the Bulldogs at Belmore it was brilliant. (That same weekend I also went to my first interstate AFL game, Pies beat Swans by 7, it was amazing). Now I can tell you about pretty much every rule in the Rugby League other than a few obscure ones, I also know more about Rugby Union even though I don't watch it much. This last year I have learned about Soccer too, I already knew the basics, but now am learning more in depth. Go United :D

Well done Dan. Can I suggest you do a video or mention how you first came to see or hear about Australian Football? Was that in Britain? How does the AFL crowd experience compare to an English soccer or rugby crowd? I am always amazed at how much you do know about the game, the tactics, making heat maps etc. I lived over there during 1973 and 74 and there was a footy league in the south of London. The Wimbledon Hawks or Wildcats? Can't remember. In those days the only newspaper than carried the VFL scores was the Daily Mail on a Monday. I couldn't believe the Mail's 73 grand final result that I went into Australia House in London later in the week to read the Melbourne Sun, however the result didn't change. I remember a relative complaining about me using the word footy. He said, "You Aussies are always shortening words" He is married to an Australian. Now you hear "footy" used in British TV shows. Anyway, keep up the good work with Blues Abroad.

about the Football (Footy) Codes all of Australian Rules Football, Rugby League Football, Rugby Union Football & finally Soccer (Football), which are, For those who DISLIKE &/or HATE any Football (Footy) Code/s with a real passion would &/or will say these, (1 One) Australian Rules Football, is referred as Aerial Ping Pong Football, (2 Two) Rugby League Football, is referred as Thugby League Football, (3 Three) Rugby Union Football, is referred as Thugby Union, &/or Rugby Yawnnion, (4 Four) Football (Soccer), is referred as Wog Ball and also both Fairies &/or Queenies Game. (NOTE) Aerial Ping-Pong A jocular (and frequently derisive) name for Australian Rules Football (or Aussie Rules as it is popularly called). The term derives from the fact that the play in this game is characterised by frequent exchanges of long and high kicks. The term is used largely by people from States both of Queensland & New South Wales in which Rugby League Football and NOT Aussie Rules (Footy) Football as &/or is the major football code. This interstate and code rivalry is often found in evidence for the term, including the early evidence from the 1940s. 1947 West Australian (Perth) 22 April: In 1941 he enlisted in the A.I.F. and joined a unit which fostered rugby football. Renfrey did not join in the &oq;mud bath&cq; and did not play 'aerial ping-pong', as the rugby exponents in the army termed the Australian game, until 1946. 1973 J. Dunn, How to Play Football: Sydneysiders like to call Australian Rules 'Aerial Ping-Pong'. But on the other hand, for those and including myself who actually do LIKE &/or LOVE any Football (Footy) Code/s with a real passion would &/or will say these, which are, (1 One) Australian Rules Football, is referred as the real Australian Football (Footy) Code of Australia, (2 Two) Rugby League Football, is referred as the Greatest Game of All, (3 Three) Rugby Union Football, is referred the Game that they do Play in Heaven, (4 Four) Football (Soccer), is referred as the Beautiful Game & the World Game & also the Real Football Code of course.
