What is a POUSSE-CAFÉ?? | BAR TALK & COCKTAILS

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

You Café, I Café, we all Pousse-Café!
So what is a Pousse-Café? A layered shooter? Far from it. I would imagine if you shoot one of these back it would tastes pretty ghastly. A Pousse-Café is a multicoloured, layered drink that was very popular in the mid-1800s and was more than likely invented in France, but nobody really knows for sure. This layered cocktail was meant to be taken after a meal, supposedly to remove the taste of dinner or tobacco or whatever is going on in your mouth at the time. A modern day Pousse-Café doesn't really have a set combination of liquor that you must use. You can use whatever you want as long as you know the density of the spirits and liqueurs you're layering. If you have the patience to make one, it makes a great after dinner sipper. Join me this episode and I'll show you how to make one and then show you how you're supposed to drink it! Cheers!

Flaming doesn't really change much in the way of flavour as only the top layer is burning. Also, you shouldn't let it burn too long. It's mostly for show, although it does heat up that top layer which is already warm due to the high alcohol content. Cheers!
