186/107 is stroke territory. He got understandably excited. Taking it over a business jacket and a shirt, while she's talking and laughing and using her arm is probably why it's reading wrong. Manual mercury is still the gold standard.

When measuring dont wear clothing under the inflatable cuff, second sit down for three to five minutes without talking, listening to music/watching tv, just resting and calming down. Than take three measurements, the second you take 30s after the first, the third 30s after the second. Forget the first measurement and calculate the average of the second and third. Now you have an accurate measurement of your blood pressure.

I usually like Dr. Oz but c’mon!! There’s so many things that were wrong here. 1.) Putting monitor cuff over any piece of clothing can throw off BP 2.) You’re supposed to wait a few minutes if you want to remeasure 3.) You’re not supposed to talk or move yet He’s asking her questions and she’s yapping away while BP is measuring. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Taking BP over her clothing, while she is talking and laughing and has just been standing up/walking around, and while she might be a bit stressed in front of the cameras...brilliant! My blood pressure when going to the doctor runs up to 200/100 but If I take it at home it’s 120/80. I take my Cuff to the doctors office and it agrees with his cuff. I actually had to take pictures of my Cuff readout That showed the date and time before they believed it. Needless to say I try to avoid doctors offices. The only trouble is insurance companies insist I go in.

They gotta take like 4 readings for me sometimes bc I suffer from a panic disorder. For some reason people checking my blood pressure triggers that for me and can cause mine to go up to 150/90 at times. Tho it always goes down as they check it again and insure to me that everything is okay. Blood pressure is just scary stuff. If you haven't been diagnosed with high blood pressure. I'd recommend not checking it all the time bc that'll lead to you having high blood pressure. From panic and anxiety. I actually can't drink alcohol or caffeine due to my anxiety. Nor can I smoke cannabis.

I have anxiety but cannabis doesn't effect my bp negatively but it doesn't make me panic like that unless I eat it. Caffeine, nicotine and a poor diet do though so I've been cutting out carbs, sugars, and processed foods. As long as I don't have too much nicotine I stay in a normal range of around 115/75 after 2mo of eating Whole Foods. I've had hypertension for probably 5yrs or so undiagnosed and not taking any meds for it. A proper human diet can fix high blood pressure most of the time.

@@sonjaortiz6857 yeah, I have that same exact problem. I'll get readings like 139/88 when they check it at the doctors, then get home and check it and it'll be 124/81. They call that white coat syndrome. A lot of people have that issue when they struggle with bad anxiety. Especially if your anxiety revolves around your health a lot.

@@salt-ernativemedia1018 to an extent. There's different levels of anxiety. Also anxiety attacks and panic attacks are very different from eachother as well. Like having anxiety and having panic disorder are similar, but different. Anxiety can be treated a little more easier bc there's usually something that causes and triggers that anxiety which can be focused on dealing with to help the person dealing with it. Panic disorder is more of a disorder where there's an off balance of chemicals within the brain that can trigger random panic attacks at random times causing a person to have them more and more bc of the fear of having another one or thinking there's something seriously wrong with yourself. Healthy diet does help out a lot and can be the solution for majority of situations. Tho if you have panic disorder. It is very advised that you don't drink or smoke and stay away from caffeine and nic. As those can trigger panic attacks in many people with a panic disorder. Also if your anxiety is revolved around your heart and blood pressure. Then having doctors take your blood pressure or taking it yourself can spike it as well bc you're thinking and worrying about it all the time. White coat syndrome is very common in many individuals

@@brandonnmm Yes no nicotine/caffeine is part of a healthy diet. We shouldn't be using those every day anyways or more than once a day as like a pre workout or before doing strenuous activity b/c they are stimulants and should be treated no different than an energy pill or drink. I would say no nicotine at all and if you are having caffeine all the time you're missing out on it's benefits while giving yourself all of the adverse effects. People addicted to coffee for instance no longer get energy from it whereas someone that only drinks it once per day or once every few days is going to reap all it's energy benefits. I have slight agoraphobia. I can't speak in front of crowds and really big crowds can freak me out in the wrong setting. Like concerts I'm good with but heavy traffic or stores being overcrowded like Walmart can trigger a stress response. I don't have panic attacks but I do get stressed in those types of situations. This is why I said in most cases. There are occasions where your stress levels will be elevated and give you a false reading of your resting blood pressure and resting blood pressure is more important than stress related. This is why I think you should take your blood pressure at home or wherever you're most comfortable to get the most accurate reading b/c a lot of ppl are stressed out in a doctors office, especially if they have my condition, and most people are most comfortable at home. So taking your bp in the morning when you wake up is the best time for the most accurate reading as long as you didn't wake up from like a nightmare b/c your body is in it's most comfortable and resting state. A healthy diet doesn't cure all but it does do well for most and should be your first option to try and treat it naturally without medications.

I'm not saying the pharmaceutical industry isn't concerned more about profits but that's true of basically any business otherwise they won't stay afloat. But most studies show that decrease in blood pressure goes in hand in hand with decreased mortality as age increases and average lifespan is increasing despite increasing medical problems like diabetes or hypertension. Hell even metformin as now been studied for antiaging/lifespan benefits. If patients don't want to follow the advice of their doctors and eat healthy, exercise, reduce stress, etc, then it makes more sense to prescribe medications. We're at the point where unhealthy, overweight people aren't dropping dead in their 50s or 60s because their conditions are 'controlled' and there's an overwhelming amount of data that corroborates this.

To prove that high BP is deadly, I would like to see data on deaths from heart attack or stroke in people having histories of untreated high BP. I don't believe any such definitive data exists proving causation. Same with high cholesterol. Deaths from heart attacks fail to show a direct causation between high cholesterol and heart attacks. I believe the big pharma companies are promoting unnecessary fear to maintain the recurring cash flows from BP medications and Lipitor (statin for lowering cholesterol), the largest selling and most lucrative drug ever. Lowering the danger limits for BP and cholesterol by just a few points translates into megabucks for those companies.

Dr Oz not even taking blood pressure correctly.....reason why so many are improperly diagnosed as having high blood pressure....it's critical to make sure it is always taken accurately. Using the proper size cuff and the cuff should never be over clothing!! I understand the setting of the show....but if your going to show viewers ....it's important to demonstrate it accurately.

You are the first person that actually had some sense he's definitely taking her blood pressure wrong and he should not be talking to her while she's taking her blood pressure nor should she have any clothing covering the cuff
