it’s because all the dragon fruit you get from the store are picked before they are ripe. try a dragon fruit grown at someones house fully ripe and it is soo sweet

I just tried the red-fleshed dragon fruit. It didn't have much of a taste to me, but my palate isn't very sophisticated. The over-all texture was very kiwi like. Right out of the refrigerator, the fruit was cold, so it was refreshing, yet bland? So yeah. It wasn't unpleasant.

Small yellow husk ones I'm told are the sweetest ones. Dragon fruit taste like a less sweet more tart kiwi and the same texture in a way.

its a very dry light mellow subdued sorta floral taste. in case youre wondering... its best mixed with lychee. compliments it.

Try eating the red dragon fruits, it tastes better and it can color your poops 😂😂

Yeah when ever I go to the Asian markets I only end up picking up the white ones. Is there any decent way to know if you're getting the dragon fruit with the red fruit inside?

No, they name dragon fruit came from the way the vine grows. The plant looks like the body of a dragon and the fruit looks almost like the flame. But dragon fruit originates from Central and South America it was not popular till it made its way to Asia where it was coined Dragon Fruit.

Everyone is eating it wrong, in Mexico it is many times served in smoothie form with added sugar, ice, and some other fruit/ingredient to balance it out. I have also seen it eaten in fruit cocktails with chili powder, chamoy, lemon juice.

I’ve had dragon fruit recently that tasted the way they described it. Just a tiny but sweet but mostly bland. I remember having dragon fruit one time though that was very very good. It actually tasted a lot like watermelon to me but with the texture of a kiwi. I feel like maybe I didn’t let it get ripe enough. Is there a way to tell when it’s best to eat? Because I don’t think just bright color is enough.

Yes, the store bought ones are actually shipped from over seas and they are green when shipped so they can change color and look pretty but the down side is they will be bland. If you have a dragon fruit from a garden then you will see what it taste like

@@kevinburrell3359 The gold one, Ecuador Palora, are one of the best tasting even at grocery stores. A lot of white flesh or red flesh varieties found at the store are picked very early for shipping (too early) so they won't have any time to develop any sugars for taste and texture. You won't be able to tell just by looking at it, just like when you pick out watermelons.

All dragon fruit are sweet when properly ripe. The problem is that dragon fruit is not suitable for supermarkets. Dragon fruit is a fast spoiling fruit. Commercial growers tend to harvest them with the skin still green, but just about to change color. Once they make it to market, the skin will have turned into either red or yellow. Unfortunately, ripening stops the moment the fruit is harvested. The change of color isn't because the dragon fruit has become ripe, it's because the immature fruit has just begun to spoil. Again, with dragon fruit, actual ripening stops the moment the fruit is harvested. Since the fruit is harvested early to avoid spoilage in transit, it's not given the chance to develop and concentrate the natural sugars necessary for the fruit to taste sweet. Really, the only ways to get a ripe dragon fruit is by growing your own, buying them at a farmer's market local to where they are grown, or by paying between $100 and $300 for a box of ripe dragon fruit express shipped from a boutique grower.

Just like most other store bought produce - these dragon fruits were likely picked WAY before they were fully ripe. (You can tell because the “wings” on the fruit haven’t dried out yet.). My understanding is while the color may darken? The sweetness does not. Try a home grown dragonfruit. Totally different sweeter flavor profile.

It needs more time on the vine to develop natural sugars. The problem is when it is picked at the proper time for its full flavor, it has a short shelf life so most growers can't afford to let it sit that long. That's correct. The skin will redden and appear ripe but won't be inside. The bland ones are because you're eating an unripe fruit.

Most of the audience lives on burgers and fries. I bet they all ran to the bathroom after this because of actual fiber they are finally eating. LOL

i ones we buy at the store here in canada are very bland the white ones, i here the yellow type is the best.

Dragonfruit is sweet and delicious. You guys must be eatting foods high in sugar because Dragonfruit is far from bland. It has a nice sweet taste. Tastes like pear and kiwi. It's really good and has a lot of benefits.

White dragon fruit tastes like watered down water. I paid for it. I ate it. It was enjoyable. It wasn't "bad". It did not seem worth money compared to every other thing I ever ate. I would rather have more rabbit eye soup.

@@Zeeangelofdeath A dragon fruit out of the supermarket is not ripe. Get a ripe one from a plant and you will taste the differents.

I just tried Dragon Fruit for the first time and it blew me away> It was the white veriaty itch has no flavor and it had no flavor. there are supposibly a number of fruits that have this quality and even though i can't think of one off the top of my head i guess that doesn't make this fruit speciel in this reguard. The texture was so amazing and is different than anything i have ever had but is simmular to Mango (no stringyness) and Avacado but is slightly different! The difference i found So AMAZING is a sensation i have never felt before. It was as if it was full of sweat natural sugar and my brain was telling me it was but my toungue wasn't so i know it wasn't sweat. My brain agknowledged this fact but still i couldn't stop thinking it was like there was an unbelievable sweatness that was their but it wasn't at the same time. Sounds crazy i know but - it is an amazing gift from GOD for shore!!!

Yes! I use in my Morning smoothie. They didn’t really cover how amazing dragon fruit really is. The benefits are beyond. And it’s high in fiber which is the key to health, it also takes care of heart, liver skin weight ect. God’s gift 👌🏽❤️

There are many types of Dragon Fruits. I'm guessing the type they are trying is the Vietnamese strain which would explain the bland taste. Yellow Dragon fruit is one of the best, it naturally has sharp spines on it which is taken off by pickers before they go to market. Not to be confused with Golden Dragon fruit which does not have sharp spines and does have a blander taste and is also yellow.

Harvested too soon. Skin ripens in color but the fruit doesn’t. Let it sit at home for a week then eat it. It will be a bit sweeter. Otherwise grow it yourself. Will always be picked too soon for American markets.

I ate some at a resort in Mexico a few weeks ago and it was so sweet and delicious. I don't want to pay $5-6 for one here and it doesn't taste as good. It's so expensive

Dr. Oz was never known to care about facts. He's been reprimanded numerous times for promoting false or incorrect information.

I tried dragon fruit for the first time it had no taste at all. It was weird.

I had an orange once and it was sour. Those things taste terrible never had another.

Mexico got a similar a fruit, grows outta cactus called "pitaya",way better than dragon fruit,10 times by far,they got 2 main ones,one kind grows in may,and the other in August. The ones that grow in August are the best kind,orientals themselves buy truckloads to take there country...

To bad Dr. Oz didn't show other varieties such as the sweet yellow skin white flesh Equador Palora or the Red flesh varieties, Purple flesh varieties or the Pink flesh. The flowers when opening look like a dragon's head with mouth open. Flowers open vary ten to fifteen inches in length.

You guys need to try the red one. They're better than the white one. The white tastes so bland and no favor.

A mixture of pear and kiwi. Has a nice sweet taste. Not too strong. Its delicious. I like it.

the golden ones are far sweeter.

Cauliflower of the fruit world is the PERFECT analogy. I thought I just tried one that wasn't ripe because it taste like nothing. Biggest waste of fruit. You can get the same nutrients eating other fruits.

The fuschia dragon fruit tastes much better! The white variant is the least tasty.

It has no taste as far as I'm concerned. I was expecting a tropical fruit taste and was very disappointed when it tasted like water.i thought that mine wasn't ripe but found that is just the way this fruit tastes. It's not sweet, nor is it sour, in my opinion it had no real taste. It's loaded with vitamin c though and very healthy for you.

Nah you tasted the wrong one. The one I had is the center is red not white and it taste like kiwi but much better. I also grow it in my garden

There is something definitely wrong with your taste buds. Honey on a dragon fruit would be awful. There are different varieties and as I am typing this I see that other people know that as well. I prefer the fruit that is deep red on the inside. It is sweeter with more taste than the slightly tangy white variety. A little bit of trivia is that during the first wave of COVID 19, China stopped buying dragon fruit from Vietnam, so Vietnamese bakers bought it at a bargain price and made bread with it. It was the best bánh mì ever. Dragon fruit is also often used as one the main fruits on ancestral and Buddhist altars.
