It should be noted that the sentence “it is raining”, the “it” is only required in “subject-prominent” languages like English. In “topic-prominent” languages like Chinese, the “dummy subject” it, would never be used.

Czech also does not use "it", and I am pretty sure most Slavic languages do not use "it" in this sentence. I wonder how many languages are "subject-prominent", then...
