These vids are so good. It just sucks that we have to have so much of this stuff explained to us from sources outside of the actual game. There's too much information that people aren't even aware of, even among those who have played the game a long time. Thank you for the information!

Yea that’s apart of the charm and makes more fun. When I picked up raven I had no clue 1+2 could parry, discovered 4 different unlisted parry’s and had a blast

For how much of a mental stack it puts on you to constantly chicken your attacks, the reward is way too small in my opinion. It takes a ton of chickenning to make somebody stop spamming parries. If it works it is a great feeling though.

i agree, observing and mixing timings is way more effective against a parry spammer, also using elbows and knees attacks helps a lot

Nah the reward this okay. If someone spamming it too much it's quiet your fault for not waiting for end of the parry and launch punish it or add elbow/knee to your if your character have one for more ,,brainded'' approach. And if the opponent is playing smart even one successful chicken can plant seed of doubt. And if he's still doing this then maybe he's opponent is very inconsistent about chickening it so why not use it?

That thumbnail is amazing. I've never done a chicken, but I really think there should be a bigger reward for a successful one. A jab string's worth of damage does not feel like a good payoff for how hard a chicken is, especially compared to how damage the reversal might do.

Reversals also dont work on knees and elbows

FYI: Chicken or bird in general, is the most OP fighter in any fighting game.

Me too. Pretty much 3 years of religiously following tekken pro scene and I've never heard or seen this animation before. I thought it was going to be a joke video. Its astonishing how much hidden stuff is in this game.

Just shows how bad Tekken is at introducing players to these mechanics. Tekken 8 desperately needs a proper tutorial or in-depth training mode especially if the game is going to just add even more new mechanics to the ones that aren't properly taught by the game. It'll be annoying having to go through KZread videos or wikis to learn the game if it doesn't teach you all of its mechanics.

it's a very nice feeling to find it out after almost 3 years of playing tekken 7, just before tekken 8 drops in which the chicken mechanic is completely removed :)

It seems like every rule in Tekken has at least 1 exception. When your right punch gets reversed, the rule is you do the chicken by pressing f+2+4. But if Paul's death fist (including d+1,2 and his rage drive) or Law's unblockable d/b+1+2 get reversed by a Paul, then to chicken you have to press u/f+2+4. And in the case of Paul vs. Paul, the chicken becomes a kick instead of a punch. By making the chicken input in this situation unique, and therefore less likely to be used successfully, it seems as if the Paul who's doing the reversal might be taking it personally that his opponent tried to use his own signature attack against him. And if that's the case, it would hint that Paul actually taught Law his unblockable d/b+1+2 as a variant of the death fist, just like Law taught Paul the incomplete somersault.

I will probably lab it myself, but with correct timing, is it possible to: Set for example 1+2 -> R1, 3+4 -> R2 Press f R1+R2 and use this as a universal chicken? It would be good if it works because I would like to save my L1 and L2 for 1+4 and 2+3 which are the hardest to do in pad and R1 R2 for 1+2 and 3+4 which are the most common 2-button inputs.

Chicken is one of those, “holy shit he block my block! How!” Moments. Super cool to see but VERY difficult to do consistently online.

I always felt like the reason the Chicken mechanic did so little damage is because it’s basically a glorified Throw Tech. In other words, it’s not a reward for you, it’s a risk for the opponent if they get predictable.

For 1+2 moves where it's not obvious which the striking arm is, you can test it against a character like Paul who has a different reversal animation for each arm. That will tell you if you need f+1+3 or f+2+4.

So there's actually an easy way to test this in T7. Go to practice mode with Miguel vs Josie and see if her reversal works on it. If it does, then the chicken input is f2+4. If it doesn't, the chicken input is f1+3.

That’s because King has two types of reversals that work only against two entirely different attacks (kicks, and right punch), so you have to chose according to the context. You don’t have to do that with the others, that’s why it’s still balanced

this pretty cool, but if you really got a read on a parry, why not just wait and punish? (or use a knee attack, which from what i understand are unparry-able. although t7 has so many variables i wouldnt be surprised if you can parry knee strikes with character X's Z-stance) this isn't a criticism, just someone legitimately wanting to know. the 15 dmg for a chicken seems so low compared to a potential round-ending FC

If you've got a read on a parry or a reversal, then doing what you said is usually the best thing. Chickens are more for when you don't think they'll do a reversal but you want some insurance just in case they do. Parries don't inflict damage on their own and can't be chickened. Only reversals can be chickened, but not all of them. Reversals are the ones that go into a throw animation, like Asuka's, Paul's and Nina's.

I am not at a level where I know what the fuck is going on in this video.

I hope they modify it in Tekken 8, cause it's unfair, you need to time correctly f1+3/f2+4, they just mash b1+3/b2+4, also if you were doing a string starter that has risky follow up, you could be punished, because you tryed to chicked . You should be able to at least land whatever move you did before the reversal instead of 15 damage, whilst if they got The reversal they get oki and some even a wallsplat...
