CEO is a powerful title, universally recognized as “person in charge.” But did you know there’s a slew of other C-level titles and roles? Here’s a breakdown of what exactly C-level or C-suite means.
“C” in C-level means “Chief.” So, one can extrapolate that any title with a “C” in it, is high-ranking executive. Think Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and -- frequently referred to in business technology -- Chief Information Officer (CIO).
C-level executives each have their own line of department heads and managers, who also have their own team below them. Even the company president reports to the CEO. But, the CEO and other C-level execs ultimately report to the Board of Directors, who represent shareholders -- the folks that own the company.
