Here are 9 things that could happen if Trump builds “The wall!”
9 - The Wall becomes a tourist attraction
According to Donald Trump, the wall will be at least 35 feet tall and 2,000 miles long. That’s not nearly as long as the Great Wall of China, which is 13,000 miles, but it would be higher. The Great Wall was only 26 feet tall at its highest points, a good 10 feet shorter than the Trump Wall. And still, it’s one of the great tourist attractions of China. Another popular wall- turned-attraction was the Berlin Wall, which was around 12 feet tall and ran about 66 miles. Anytime you build something so massive, people are going to want to get a look at it. Two things that make the Berlin Wall and the Great Wall of China better tourist attractions are their accessibility. You can walk on the Great Wall, and West Berliners could walk right up to the Berlin Wall and paint on it. That might not be the case for the Trump wall. Americans may be able to get close, but they sure won’t get to walk on it. Although, with the cost of maintaining the wall, Customs and Border Protection may start offering paid tours. In areas like Tijuana the wall will go through urban areas. Right now there’s an ugly corrugated metal wall, but a shiny concrete wall might attract the kind of artists that decorated the Berlin Wall, maybe on both sides.
8 - The Wall goes way over budget
Trump estimated that the wall would cost anywhere 4 billion to 12 billion dollars; the numbers keep changing. Well, the wall will be 35 feet high and 2,000 miles long. Building experts estimate 10 billion dollars for the concrete panels, 5 billion for steel columns to hold the panels (including labor) and another 1 billion for concrete footings and foundation. That’s 16 billion dollars before taking transportation costs into account. You also have to build new roads to accommodate trucks hauling concrete and steel to remote desert areas. Let’s say that costs 2 billion dollars. Now add 30 percent for the management costs, engineering, and design. That makes 23.4 billion dollars if everything goes according to budget. Now, when’s the last time any major government project came anywhere near the budget? And that’s just building the wall. It also has to be maintained. The Congressional budget office estimates the costs of maintaining the wall would exceed the building costs in 7 years. Oh, and you have to staff it. Even with only one person per mile, that takes 2,000 officers per shift - all federal workers with pensions and everything. Whew.
7 - The Wall Only Stops Half
What do we mean when we stay it only stops half? Around half of the people that are in the United States illegally came into the country through an airport or official border crossing, all perfectly legal. They just didn’t leave when their thirty day visa ran out. A wall won’t stop these people. Obviously, there’s no guarantee that a wall would stop every illegal person coming from Mexico either.
During the Cold War, over 1200 people directly escaped East Germany every year, despite a massive wall, shoot to kill orders, and a secret service system keeping tabs on everybody and their dog. People are pretty ingenious, and if there’s a will, there’s a way. The sheer length of the US border will make it hard to control the entire stretch, and you can take a short boat trip around either end. And there are always tunnels. Israel, another wall building nation, has detected at least 30 tunnels under walls in its Gaza strip. Some of the tunnels have been miles long, 60 feet underground, and big enough to ride a motorcycle through. Hey, there may be job openings for Palestinian tunnel diggers in Mexico!

@@AaronLIVEskateA wall won't do anything, are you serious!?!? It will cut illegal immigration by 70% or more. The same goes for border crossing illegal drugs & weapons. It will save billions of dollars that go into Gov. assistance like welfare & HUD. Especially after it is complete. We will start sending back the "ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS" who have been living here ILLEGALLY! That is how we will be able to pay for the upkeep on the wall. As we will be saving much more, then it costs to pay for them. If we didn't have that cost, we could send every citizen to college, for free... But seeing how they don't respect our boundaries & look to take advantage of us. We are forced to deal with it. We will be much better off with the wall. Reducing the amount of illegal drugs is, in my opinion the best part of it. Less drugs means less people getting their lives destroyed by them. People taking them not only destroy their life, but the lives of the people who love them. The same goes for the people who become dealers. The same holds true for both of them. The majority of whom, wind up in prison or dead. This also costs the taxpayers (putting them in overcrowded prisons or in the grave). In prison they get raped. That is usually why they join a gang. A prison gang means racial segregation. Where they learn how to become better criminals. Illegal immigrants cost taxpayers money, just by being here. As well as when they commit crimes and end up in prison. They take jobs away from citizens, even legal immigrants. The coyotes will rape about 70% of the woman & CHILDREN! They also take some as slaves & sell some into slavery. If that wasn't bad enough, they will even leave them to die as well. They will smuggle anything or anyone in who pays enough. They have found ISIS at the border. So by the wall won't do anything, what do you mean? Sh!t even the demon'rats want(ed) walls/borders. You really need to put more thought into it because, clearly you have not done that! This video only shows how privileged you are. Just like the Sjw Hollywood elites, who live in their isolated communities protected by walls, locked doors, security systems and, security guard personnel. Keanu Reeves is the only real one, out of them. He actually takes a public transit bus, for that a applaud him...

Schizoinsomnia your dumb as fuck if you think a wall will stop the drug war drug lords exist because there is a demand for drugs and people can make a lot of money off of it so as long as that demand is there someone will be there to supply that and building a wall definitely won’t cut illegal immigration by 70 percent but nice try buddy

@@AaronLIVEskate if you read I said 70% of the drugs that come through by illegal land crossing. Not by Vehicle, boats or, planes. New Mexico citizen just put one up on a major trafficking route. So it is already working. The more that goes up and stands in the way, the less ground boarder patrols has to patrol. Making it easier to find them while, forcing them to go through more inhospitable areas. In those inhospitable areas, more thermal cameras and motion sensors will be put in place. If our special forces can't scale the wall they picked out, how will illegal immigrants and smugglers get past? The only way is by tunneling below the wall that goes 5ft down. Only the cartels will be able to afford to do that. And we have technology to detect such operations. This isn't like the fence that is currently in place. It is a engineered WALL, meant to do what it's designed to do.

Stop lying to yourself. Income inequality is higher here than anywhere else in the world. Our $7.50 minimum wage hasn't even mathematically been enough to survive off of for the last 40 years. 45 million people in the US are currently living under the poverty line. I'd like to see you tell those people to their faces that you think they "live a comfortable life". I'm not trying to argue its worse here than many 3rd world countries, but what we have is still unacceptable and could be EASILY fixed if our joke of a government would simply reallocate funding to places where it mattered and could make a real difference.

Why is securing our borders even an issue anyone needs to argue about? protecting our nation and the people should always be a major priority. I'm not against immigration, immigration is good and helped build our nation, I'm against illegal immigration. When the wall gets built we should use prison labor from nonviolent offenders to help with construction labor and lets them earn time off of their sentences, which will help reduce overcrowding in prisons. We have thousands of national guard soldiers currently not doing anything and can and should already be protecting our borders.

Doesn't matter what Trump thinks. Fact is there are many reasons having immigration laws , a wall dividing nations is just common sense. Doesn't matter what percentage of illegal immigrants commit crime, but what if the ones that do? It makes it thstuch harder to catch a criminal that there is no record of. We have always had immigration laws in place, if you want to come here you must do it like all the years before, apply for citizenship, assimulate, become an American citizen. We are busting at the seems with illegal immigrants that hold no loyality to this nation. What is so wrong about building a wall? How is it going to affect anyone's life? The president has the responsibility of keeping the citizens of this country safe, Mexicans are not the only ones crossing our southern borders.....This has got to stop. Democrats are only fighting this because of their hate for Trump. Most of them were for a wall im years before. Now everything they do is for political gain at the risk of every citizen in this nation. We can not continue to bare the weight of the world on our shoulders. We can not take care of our own citizens, our vets , our homeless. We are heading for a train wreck, we are going to break under the extreme weight of it.

People sell drugs, steal from others, rob banks to get money to put food on the table for there family. Though their intentions are to help there families, it’s still against the LAW (illegal). You're right, mexican here, living in Mexico. I'm not in favor of the wall, but in favor to stop illegal immigration, I know some dudes that got their visas rejected because they don't even speak english or doesn't have the skills or studies to stay in the US to work, and that's what people here doesn't seem to understand, I mean you don't go to a place where you can't help or doesn't need your services. Think they should seek in any other part of the world, or even in another state here in Mexico, because here are a lot of jobs, but people that don't want them, people here works a lot, but some want fast-easy money and that's why they cross illegally (ironically they send money to help their families without knowing they're just helping inflation and peso depreciation). Peace.

It's just not worth the debt. I come from a family of Mexican immigrants who originally came here illegally, and I can tell you, 99% of my family (aunt's, uncle's, cousins, family friends) came through the "front door". So really, the wall would be very ineffective. I do have 1 family member that crossed the river with a Coyote because of time concerns, but otherwise, he was planning on crossing the legal border too. I'm sure there's better use for that money elsewhere.

  • @yarelig5325

@Fred Gathers it's not that immigrants think they're above the law or deserve some kind of pass, it's that current immigration laws aren't enforced, so that's why some immigrants get away with being here illegally. For example, if they overstay their visa, there's no officer that comes looking for them. They get to stay here as long as they lay low, which they usually always do (the majority are just hard working ppl making under $35k/yr, trying to provide for their family's future). And they're able to get jobs because corrupt companies looking to take advantage of them hire them at lower wages so they can profit. Like another comment on here said, if we didn't give them jobs, they wouldn't come.

Yareli G Considering illegal immigrants cost the US about $54 billion annually, I would say that building a wall would definitely be worth it. If people are going to keep coming to America illegally, despite the many laws forbidding it, then there aren’t very many options left to choose from. The amount of illegal immigrants in the US already is outrageous. Illegal immigration has backed the US into a corner. Someone has to do SOMETHING.

  • @yarelig5325

    @yarelig5325

    5 жыл бұрын

@@actual.lizard7804The Wall was estimated by experts to cost uppwards of $20 billion, and many years to construct, not to mention maintenance costs. $54 billion was just their estimated cost of services minus tax contributions in 2013. I'm sure that number has changed, and not to mention their economical contributions (cheap labor/production towards cheaper pricing of goods). Most illegal immigrants could only get low wage jobs, but since DACA was introduced in 2012, it has allowed many young people to continue school and get higher paying jobs they otherwise couldn't. So now they're contributing more taxes. I'm not saying they're not costing money, but a wall wouldn't do much. That money should be going into other resources.

Easy, get rid of ObamaCare. Let insurance companies go nuts. Premiums lower as competition increases, which means better deals and higher quality health insurance. But assuming that healthcare, a service, is more important than security and preservation of our nation, it would be easy to assume you think universal healthcare is great. I've already written a response back in 2016 to universal health care, so I'll just copy and paste it here so Y'all can read the condensed text and draw your own conclusions: "Universal health insurance does not necessarily mean universal access to health care. In practice, many countries promise universal coverage but ration care or have extremely long waiting lists for treatment. Those countries that have single-payer systems or systems heavily weighted toward government control are the most likely to face waiting lists, rationing, restrictions on the choice of physician, and other barriers to care. "Free" healthcare isn't really free since we must pay for it with taxes; expenses for health care would have to be paid for with higher taxes or spending cuts in other areas such as defense, education, etc. Profit motives, competition, and individual ingenuity have always led to greater cost control and effectiveness. Government-controlled health care would lead to a decrease in patient flexibility. Like social security, any government benefit eventually is taken as a "right" by the public, meaning that it's politically near impossible to remove or curtail it later on when costs get out of control. Loss of private practice options and possible reduced pay may dissuade many would-be doctors from pursuing the profession. A long, painful transition will have to take place involving lost insurance industry jobs, business closures, and new patient record creation. In an effort to cut costs, price & salary controls on drugs, medical equipment, and medical services are likely to be put in place, meaning there is less incentive to pursue medical-related research, development, and investment, nor pursue medical careers in general. Healthy people who take care of themselves will have to pay for the burden of those who smoke, are obese, etc. No other country with a semi-working universal healthcare system has a government or population like ours."

it wouldn't be a waste of money, as a matter of fact no money would be wasted. 1 year without obamacare would save more than enough money to build that wall. 8 years without obamacare would save $544,000,000,000. and since trump is against everybody being on welfare he is going to try and make more jobs for them. when obama left office, a quarter of this country was living on welfare. if we can get those lazy bastards to stop rioting and start working, then we would have more tax payers and less beggars which would save even more money. and if we stop giving checks to countries who want us dead, then we would be saving even more money there as well. we could save trillions of dollars if we can undo what obama did. the cost of this wall wouldn't even equal 1% of militarily spending. and our current annual border security budget is over $12,000,000,000. that is the amount of money we pay every year for border security, building the wall could bring down that cost significantly.

I'd whole heartedly support that plan. You don't "save" money by spending 16 billion dollars. David Garcia I would love for you to point out how my family had any ties with manifest destiny when it was 90 years before my Italian grand dad set foot on US shores. This is the kind of bigotted nonsense that I won't tolerate. You complain about the horrible white people but the world jumps at the chance to get a slice of USA pie. Like I said before you can come in and be an American and make an effort to get along and learn our ways, or you can be a racist leech sucking on our petrodollar. Let me give you a piece of history since you brought it up. The incident and war that followed you are referring to was part of a backfired plan by Mexico to increase citizenship after their brutal fight for Independence from their Spanish masters that.... oh shit wait for it...... Massacred an entire race and took lands and riches from the natives. Genocide is colorblind jackass crack open a history book once in your life.

as an outsider its fun to read what people comment here. first you forgot what is a border and what is it stand for. its a border dividing two countries apart and protecting each that has different values, culture and interests. some threaten the others way of life and security. in the usa 10% of the population are undocumented. and in some places like texas the percentage is even higher. in every country people pay taxes to provide them with public service and care. from medical care to public schools and fire services, from repairing the streets and building gardens and keeping the cities clean and providing security to the people. when you have such a large amount of people that are of the grid you have a problem and the cost of it in every aspect in life is lies in the citizens that pay more and get less from their own community. the usa is a great place to live, especially for those people that comes from failing countries other wise they would have gone to one of the other 12 countries in south america or the 8 in central america. have fun with the democrats in the usa or the supporters of an open border. no good can come in the long run from an open border and as americans you can loose your culture and uniqueness. good luck.

Alexis Shine Umm... No. Not 90%. Most of the illegal aliens we have in the country came into the country legally and have had passports, visas expire making them illegal now. Let's not even get on the subject of green cards acquired before a devorce. Walls don't fix that. I'm a Trump fan and voted for him but we got to look at the facts that this wall will cost more than what it will do for us. We have to restructure the way immigration is done to fix the problem. And if we start to shoot people for illegally coming across the boarder that will make fear. Fear works, fear of what we would do next stopped the 2nd world war.

I feel this wall is necessary, but if he is going all out just for mexico... why not build one on the border of Canada too? Let’s not be racist about it. I agree with multiple walls, i think it’s a good idea. China has one and they’re pretty intelligent, it’s working out for them AND it looks badass. We should have a great wall of America.

@Aemoon any barrier you put in front of them, will help keep us safe. By the way, we won't know until we build it. However, historically, it has worked, actually. It work in Israel, it worked in China , it works in southern Mexico, it worked in Berlin, and it works around your house. So, I'm willing to bet on it.

Please give examples based on verifiable evidence. I would uphold The Israeli Wall ....as A Wall that significantly lessens Illegal Immigration. Would you not agree? Another point while Illegals would attempt other means of entering the U.S., these alternative paths would become exceedingly more expensive and prevent some illegal immigraton. Since Pres Trump has enforced the border The Coyote Rate has risen sharply and illegal entrances are down.

We're darned if we do and darned if we dont regarding the building of this wall. This is a complex situation that needs careful scrutiny as mentioned in the video. American agriculture does depend on immigrants, but America does need more control of its borders. Furthermore, it will take a great deal of time with all the logistics and costs, the next incoming President will have to support the border wall or its money wasted. Hoping American economy remains stable or its money down the drain again. Maintenance and enforcement costs need to be carefully calculated.

Tourists will come from Mexico and South America, see the wall and then go home. Likewise, Mexico might win the pole vaulting gold medal in the next Olympic Games.
