imagine you were in your prime form, on course to win the gold at your home Olympics.. but life decided to play games with you again, you nearly died in a car accident and a global pandemic happened; your form is not like before and you got weaker and weaker, while the guy you beat 14 times and only lost once won your home Olympics and got stronger and stronger (basically unbeatable)

I can see the confidence in placing the ball, netting and many things. Prime momota always an interesing defensive single players type. Park Joo Bong scouted him back in elementary school and told this boy was a good potential but not having any power since he is so small posture and skinny backk then.

it's ok if Axelsen was not in his prime yet in 2017-2019, but what happened IF Momota's accident didn't happen? maybe he can go beyond his 2019 prime form! what if 2019 not even his final form? MS in 2020 and beyond will be much more exciting to watch. thanks to Momota too, Ginting's play be more recognised.

2021 Momota was actually still alright, but he got a lot worse after. Almost beat Axelsen in Denmark Open in the second set in their first encounter post accident. So who knows. It'd probably be closer to 50-50. Its not like prime Axelsen is absolutely invincible, he can still lose (Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Ng Tze Yong, ...), and prime Momota was one of the most consistent players ever (though Shi Yuqi was often a threat).
