Code Geass is an anime that basically is "what if Great Brittain stayed Roman?" So... They start like modern day UK, they decide they want their last Colonies back & invade 1 at a time. World news big deal, then they start renaming all them as numbers. So it's not British Malay it's "4". After annexing past Colonies theu expand from each eventually bringing down world powers like Japan AKA "11". Story goes off from there more or less taking place there.

Just to let you know; Black Identity was fostered after the Black Conciousness movement under Steve Biko in the 1970's in my country; so i think the segregation of black states within south africa instead of a unifed state is unrealistic. More likely that the ANC would take control of african zones; having traditionally run tribal lands (which do still exist) being granted more automy under chiefs.

Great video, I would just add that there was a report that without interference the old SAW(Boer Army) would have been able to take entire Africa in a matter of months , thus I believe that if there was a war it would have been swift and brutal and if the Boers had retained the army and weapons, would have destroyed the black ethnic states quite quickly, also we would have focused on the Kwazulu Natal as it was the only powerful black nation(military wise) and they did not as you suggested have a close alliance with the ANC , they had their interests in the ANC but would have not have let Mandela lead them, their King would have

Still by then every African country will have modern weapons so it will be a bloody process and it will hurt South Africa more and then it will help. at that time I'm more realistic model is probably taking all a southern Africa and possibly in getting to East and Central Africa. Because by then multiple coalitions would who began against South Africa and would force a lot of these nations to either develop a very strong military to counter it something african armies didn't do . Also it would probably unite these countries even more if South Africa did it then at the time as they have a new common enemy and it's not each other but South Africa. U

But it talks about the military capabilities of the South African army against African nations, even if they stood together, without outside help they would have lost, if you look at the start of the Angolan war we walked over the Angolans. There was just no nation that would have stood a chance against us without the communist block help.

@@Francois_vanderMerwe from a military perspective it is true that SA boer was advanced and had numerous capabilities to take over the SADC region but it would be almost impossible to maintain these newly acquired territories without having to fully wipe out the ethic majorities on these areas . In SA the boer already had a tough time fully controlling the local Bantu populations and there’s been numerous instances of racial clashes or racialized attacks on both sides . And also taking into consideration that the boers / whites in general were a minority group , and still are today . How do you realistically expect to maintain a strong influence over these regions? Especially when it is guaranteed the black MAJORITY will definitely resist and undermine your rule . I agree you would have the military capability of conquering these regions but I think you’d soon quickly loose these regions anyway. Plus you’d be giving the black ethic tribes along these regions the precise reason for them to overlook their differences and to unify against a common enemy (the white man) which in itself may have led to a massive race war with numerous casualties on both sides , due to whites having lesser numbers and black Bantu having a lot more to spare , it could completely back fire for you weakening your position and furthermore thinning out your resources , and eventually lead to you not only loosing your SADC territories but you loosing a strong hold over SA , pushing you into a corner of only being able to have control over a small province instead of half a continent , you also don’t take into consideration the influence of the soviet commies who had interests in Africa and spreading African Communism , the black majority may pledge allegiance to the soviets in return for funding, training and being equipped by them and because your boer/white military would be spread thin throughout the SADC region it would be virtually impossible to fully control/monitor and regulate these areas effectively, preventing the entrance of these “weapons” . If the Boer/white minority in SA today had to attempt a war on the majority black Bantu population , I believe it would end badly for both sides , but particularly for the boers , A lot of black Bantu have a lot of resentment for whites , due to the land being stolen and historical discrimination. They want nothing more than to launch a full massacre on the white population settling old scores . And if You start it but the Bantu finish it , I don’t The western world would intervene for your sake , as you will be seen as white , racist nationalists who betrayed the charity of the local natives who gave you a chance at redemption and reconciliation, but you sought out to rip open old wounds. The only real influence White minority in SA have is over economic issues , with white elite ( not all whites , middle class white and poor whites excluded ) still owning and controlling majority of the country’s wealth , that’s where it ends . And in the modern day Bantu basically control the SANDF , even though it’s not as strong as it was during apartheid, but it’s strong enough to completely wipe out any white resistance or military coup also taking into consideration other black countries will happily support SA Bantu as a lot of black Africans have strong silent hatred for the former white oppressors and colonizers , but play nice as the western world would place a lot of life crippling sanctions on these countries if they were to ethnically remove white but if u had to start the war it would give the black countries all the reason the need to carry out these heinous crimes.Theres no way the boers , TODAY , can reestablish a boer republic without outwardly buying land from the government or pushing for cape Succession, both which are unlikely options as it doesn’t suit economic opportunities for the White elite , being a part of SA and cohabitating with black Bantu serve their economic interests , most customers , employees and partners of major white companies are majority black Bantu , hence a race war , won’t serve them , even tho the poor whites and middle class white would probably benefit from it , reestablishing their priority in the work place and other societal areas , I think it’s safe to say if you want the return of white rule , you’d probably have to come back to Europe or the States , it’s unlikely that whites will ever completely rule in Africa again.

What if Florence or some other major Italian state during Da Vinci's time took interest in Da Vinci's inventions and managed to unite Italy by mass producing them, causing an Industrial Revolution in Renaissance Italy. That map is factually incorrect... South Africa has four provinces + 2 Rhodesia which was given to Anglo-Saxons and the South West... So it was the Cape, Natal, Transvaal and Freestste

You could draw a line North to South cutting off the west third of the country and call it Cape Africa, that is where most of the Whites and coloured live. Only the coast towns and Joberg have white communities. The Boer farmers are outnumbered in the restcof the country.

Also the transkei kwazulu thing wouldn't happen as in the 90s there was a lot of poltical violence between the ANC and IFP - who are the zulu nationalist party.

I think you have a made a fundamental error at the beginning of your assumption which increased the size of the error at the end. Assuming everything happened that led to the breakup of the country, there is no way Transkei would have been able to exert dominance on the Zulu. The breakup would have followed far more ethnic lines, in Black South Africa, and Zulu military dominance over Xhosa populated Transkei would have been a foregone conclusion. Needing sea access and being able to revive treaties between the Boer and the Zulu, Zululand would become an ally with The Boer Republic. With crime increasing in Zululand, there would be flow of migration of English speaking South Africans, to the Cape. Having lost Afrikaner support, from the Boer Republic, De Klerk would last no more than 1 term in office, with the Democratic Party taking over leadership of the Cape. Meanwhile, in Transkei Mandela would make the same mistakes he made as President of SA, and not forget his Friends, Gadaffi, Cuba, China etc, and more in-line with Communism, as he needs the Communist party, and trade union support, in Transkei to maintain power, and therefore move further away from US support. China was not yet an economic powerhouse, and would not have much interest in Transkei due to lack of natural resources. This would leave Zululand, who under the leadership of Buthelezi would have adopted a more federalist western friendly system of Government. Remember, even today, the IFP have policies more inline with US values, small Government, lower taxes, flexible labour laws etc. coupled with a large Indian population, they would also be allies with India, who are US regional allies. US money pouring into Zululand, would require technical expertise, that the Boer Republic would be happy to provide, thereby increasing co-operation between the Zulu and the Boers, with neither having an interest in the other one failing. Any sanctions on the Boer republic would be negated by Afrikaner ingenuity, much the same as during apartheid, only this time, with more support from countries like India and Zululand itself. However, as the Boer republic would not need a race based system, due to larger population, there would be no reason for sanctions. Military speaking, the Boers would have a slight upper hand over the Cape, but would have no interest over stretching their resources. Cooperation would therefore be the most sensible part to play, by the Cape. There would also be valuable trade between the two states, as a large part of the Cape is Semi desert, the Boer would have a greater crop yield. The Transkei would slowly turn into the basket case of the region, as current ANC run South Africa is full of corruption and nepotism. Without the tax base to fund these acts, or natural resources, they will fall apart far sooner. They would have also been reliant on the Boers for Electrical supply, and other functions from non existent or failing infrastructure. The Cape, Zululand and Boer republic, will therefore need to cooperate against illegal immigration and crime from across their Borders with Transkei.

the breakup of pangea was necessary to even allow large dinosaurs to rise during the jurassic (the interior desert climate was too much). biogeography and geology would be changed incredibly to the point where the later mesozoic is unrecognizable and the metorite impact perhaps isn't even as lethal. even if it still wipes out the dinosaurs, there's a slim chance anything similar to our own cenozoic even happens, and the evolution of apes and eventually upright ones was dependent on the formation of the himalayas and african rift valley- tectonic processes that would halt if pangea still existed. tl;dr the world is so different mankind simply doesn't evolve at all

One would have to consider the water, resource, labour and electricity scarcity of living in the Kalahari desert, which is what the majority of the western part of the country consists of. Orania is situated on the banks of the Orange river and as such has become a successful agrarian community, but apart from Uranian mining and fracking , the Northern Cape region is still uncharted territory for those wishing to exploit its resources. The Afrikaner state would have to make a lot of concessions in agreements with the various other states to (for example) gain access to coal generated electricity. It would initially be overreliant on imports...and considering the 5 year drought we now have in South Africa, it would also be hardpressed to feed the populace. The question of unskilled labour is also a very pressing issue for Afrikaners, as they've since the founding of the Boer Republics relied heavily on black labour. To suddenly sweep that rug from beneath them would create a major disruption, especially in the fields like agriculture and construction. That's where the real life Orania has made quite a big departure from the other states. In Orania both skilled and unskilled labour are done by Afrikaners. My speculation is that segregation based on race, at least in the white parts of the country would be short lived. Apartheid South Africa was still a western economy and could not afford limiting its labour pool to only whites if it had wanted to sustain the various parts of its government, including the military - which had fought the communists for decades longer than America had spent in Vietnam. The projects needed to tame the Kalahari and create a consumer market would potentially require a lot of labour and imported resources.

As a South African I need to give you my opinin for a more accurate alternative history. First of all the NP (National Party) was the considered a or the conservative party of South Africa. The Conservative Party (Konservatiewe Party) was the Conservative. That being said they where also not the most liberal party. They where in between. Second of all. If the Boer republic formed and white South Africans (especially Afrikaners) had to move then they would have kicked FW De Klerk out as the leader of the state and would have definitely gone for someone much more radical. They would not however fight the other nations especially if the US backed Transkei. Boer's are angry but not Stupid. It would probably have been the start of a second help mekasr era. However inside the Boer republic it would have probably been hell if you where deemed not white for the first twenty years. After that I believe internal Social Justice warriors and the internet would have helped with relations such as coloureds. Remember white South Africans did vote for apartheid to end!

Before I continue, I'd like to thank you for even covering South Africa...TWICE. I've begged other people like Cody on Alt. History Hub to do something in Africa instead of always focusing on Europe and America. If you can, look into the history of the Swahili on of the Swahili coast. What if the Swahili became as "modernised" (for lack of a better word) as they're trading Islamic trading partners. Or what if Great Zimbabwe became an empire? Or what if the Bantu-Nguni tribes of the Xhosa or Zulu had come into contact with guns before the Dutch colonised? As stow aways have been recorded to have washed up ashore of these two tribes and married into them too. So possibility of transfer of knowledge was probably high.
