It looks fat as hell! I like the concept for the vid and this could throw up some interesting vids. On this occasion I think I’m glad that Omega make the Speedy and Rolex make the Daytona and never the two shall mix (I hope!).

I love this channel

I can only cry bitter tears knowing that I'll never be able to own one of these... it's just so damn beautiful. The only thing I would add is keep the Daytona bracelet shape but blend it with the speedmaster by giving it the two polished mini-links bordering the center links, and have the center and outer links with a standard brushed satin finish. As for another minor change, I would keep the omega design for the subdials like you have, but arrange them so that the running seconds is on the bottom and have the 30 minute counter be on the left and the 12 hour counter on the right as that would add a bit more symmetry to the design by having the chronograph dials on each side and the running seconds dial being directly centered. But seriously tho, you should definitely design a line of watches. They would be hot sellers I can most assure you

This was a great vid and I hope it turns into a series. However, I use the chronograph function on my watch, including the hour totalizer on a daily basis and find both of these classics wanting. I started with a Speedmaster and went to an IWC Pilot's Chronograph. To me it is the most legible by far. The elimination of the Tachymeter bezel (what percentage of owners actually use it?), allows a larger dial by using more of the 43mm width. This permits larger subdials that are optimized for legibility with the back/white contrast. The well-crafted pilot watch aesthetic works for me. Now if Lange created a white dialed Datograph with an hour totalizer it would be very hard not to take out a second mortgage...

This is fun.. 2 iconic editions of each brand. They should never be compared because are so different to each other. I love both of them and they represent different things in their history. I think the current models of each version is the best they have ever done. I collect both and lucky enough to have both. You cant go wrong with either.

IDGUY. More Please. I just love it when you bring your design skills to the forefront. Having a real image that we can comment on is wunderbar. Love the Omega/Rolex logo. I would have eliminated the Rolex underscore Omega type. I did not hear the final sizes at the bezel, the total case width or lug to lug. I love the President bracelet and I think it might go well here. Through videos on a number of channels, I am honing in with I am looking for in watches. I am not a big chrono guy, but the clean design of the Tag Heuer Carrera CAS2111.BA0730, with a white dial and blue hands really speaks to me and is on my list. Omega has a few great ones including the silver Snoopy and the white dial Speedmaster with moonphase and red accents on a red leather dial. I am not a huge fane of the Daytona due to its small size. To me it's a great women's watch for an athletic type, like the gals Rolex has on their website. I must becoming a junkie as I wondered why this did not come out yesterday. I kept checking just in case it was late.....

Proof that the perfection of the Speedmaster can't be improved upon. Fun video tho, Cheers 👍🏻

That was really interesting contrasting the two main classical styles against one another. I can definitely see the Greek influences in the the case shape of the Omega and of course the lyre itself was indeed a Greek instrument. Obviously the name alone connotes Greece. I had a tougher time reconciling the actual style elements of the Rolex with Roman classicism, yet I can easily see the Roman Empire attached to Rolex for many obvious and not so obvious reasons. Loved this for mat and I loved your confection of the two together. What stood out the most is how desperately Omega needs to use an oyster style bracelet to enhance the lyre cae. I can now see they are absolutely made for each other. I'd love to see see some amalgam of a JLC Master Control with some variant of the Grand Seiko Snowflake or other texture dial reference.

Another interesting and thought provoking video IDGuy. Personally I wouldn’t like a combination of these two iconic watches. The dial would be too cramped and cluttered in my opinion. How about a combination of a JLC Reverso and Rolex Submariner?

A seamaster/submariner fusion would be interesting to see. But WHICH seamaster? The 300 Professional already took a lot of design elements from the submariner as it is with the dot and baton hour markers and the hashtag bezel insert.

Good thoughts, I completely agree with bracelet and case options. However I would change couple of things: 1-I don’t think it needs to be Rolex waterproof, therefore keep Daytonas crown but no crown guards, and swap pushers for Speedmaster ones 1-the dial looks too busy, I would keep Speedmaster indexing.

For chronograph, I will stick with Omega. Great video as always...cheers

It’s crazy youPublish this video when you did, because just the other day I was thinking more of the economics of the speed master and the functionality of this in 103. I’ve had the privilege to experience both unrest and recently bought the 103. One of the things that was occurring to me is what if I was to replace the tachometer of the Omega speed master the friction fit bezel? I also thought about incorporating the day date feature that the 103 brings to the table in the speed master, but it would completely mess with the design so that I went the other way and I thought what would happen if each of the Diles on the 103 was in dented in the way the speed masters sub registers are?

Much more work, but expanding to take the “best of” from multiple versions over multiple eras would be cool af

Good Grief! It's like one of those weird photos where 2 faces are combined. It looks so familiar yet so wrong! Definitely the do the Railmaster and the Milgauss! And if you really want to get busy, the Royal Oak, the Overseas ᴀɴᴅ the Nautilus.

Looking at the end result and i dont see enough improvement to make me wish this watch really existed. IMO, the SS Daytona is perfect enough as is. Entertaining video though!!

Very interesting as usual IDGuy! I wonder if the word "Cosmograph" caused any undue bias with NASA. Although the Omega "Speedmaster" won the contract because of supposed performance after rigid testing. "Cosmograph" is very close to the Soviet "Cosmonaut". I wonder if the "Daytona" would of had a better chance during the space race with the word "Astrograph" below the name. . As we know, USA rocket pilots were "Astronauts". Just a thought...

i kinda dig it. of course it would need a bit more "refinement" after this quick&dirty photoshop (better balanced index vs hand size, particularly thickness, better tuned bezel width vs dial size, shrink down the chrono pushers a bit etc). i'd be also dying to see those indices with a stepped dial. would be awesome! though, to be honest, this has faaaar to little text on the dial to be "worthy" of a Brolex :D

Very interesting concept, but if Omega manufactured at least we could by one ; )

Cool video! Very much enjoyed it! Adding design elements from the Speedmaster to the Cosmograph made it nicer, adding design elements from the Cosmograph to the Speedmaster made it uglier... The Speedmaster today still is the Speedmaster. The Cosmograph “evolved” and did not get more mature... showy maybe 🤔... Just my two cents!

@@ID-Guy I am personally not happy with the design change/evolution of the latest generation of Rolex sports watches ... Different worlds collide here... 🤷🏻‍♂️ I very much like the old Cosmograph with steel bezel, as well as the wonderful understated GMTs, the Submariner, ... with the good old bezels and aluminum inlays in the bezels... What Rolex sells today is too showy for me. I fell in love with the new Oyster Perpetual 41 mm, I’m on the waiting list for a yellow dial version. The case is total understatement and the yellow dial adds that extra it needs. This is also the reason why I’m a big fan of the Speedmaster. It is what it was ... doesn’t want to be showy... Less is more!

I like your watch & would buy it if it had a date. I have owned both & departed with both because of no date. Take price out & you go with the Daytona. Leave price in & you go with a few different types of speedmasters for price of one Daytona.

Please drop the polished centre links, and while you're at it, brush the ceramic bezel please. Good to go. The 'tool' watch is becoming theatrical with time, just as the land rover and Jeep concepts have evolved.

I'm always too harsh on Rolex ;) Actually working on a video all about the Brand itself. There is something very universal about it (which is seriously impressive) - as for paying their premiums... hard to justify, I agree (value retention or not)

Somewhat agree Christian. Rolex is dangerously close to becoming a fashion icon whilst Omega continue to create more interesting watches with far superior mov'ts - and all for less money. I know in my core that when you keep filling an object with air it pops and I know that when you are on top of the mountain there's only one place to go. Yet I still find it hard to bet against Rolex. It's very counter-intuitive to me.

Have to say, I disagree with your thought that it’s good that the case acts as a crown guard as others should follow. This is a manual wind watch and thus a pain to wind - quite literally; due to the lack of exposure of the crown. I have the watch and curse every time I have to wind it. Omega should have had more of the crown exposed for easier winding. This is exactly what they have done with the recently announced new version of the watch. Some forty years later, they make the change. Even Rolex would have made the change earlier than this. And whilst I’m having a gripe, how ridiculous is it that people say the watch is iconic and was the first on the moon. It wasn’t. A watch with a similar looking dial was the first, but not this watch. This watch is a dumbed down version of the original which had a column wheel and vertical clutch. Both were soon after omitted to make a cheaper watch that the world calls The first watch on the moon” This watch was chosen by NASA for it’s function, not its visual appearance. Therefore it’s sacrilege to do what the money-men at Omega did. Here endeth the rant.

Take everything from Rolex and nothing from Omega. Omega's only claim to fame is the style of dial which they borrowed from the Rodania Geometer and boom the perfect chronometer... Lol

Unpopular opinion, I think the ceramic bezel is hideous looking. I liked the zenith Daytona way more than the latest Daytona

Don’t get the Speedy. I’ve tried. People are evangelical about it. But I can’t see it. Don’t get it. Can’t get it. I’d buy one in a heartbeat if only somebody could punch the passion into my face. But, try as they do, nothing. Nowt. Bugger all.
