Yeah probably, but the thing is, I feel people are giving Luffy too much leeeway for getting pass Skypeia, there's a very high chance Enel actually kills Luffy & he doesn't make it past, Enel is a 500 million bounty man with observation able to snipe people completely off screen & enough power to destroy islands.

This is somewhat part of something I've been speculating for a while now: what if Devil Fruits are training wheels/limiters on haki and Luffy and fruit users in general will never be as strong as they could be? Kaido made it a point that Roger conquered the seas without fruit powers, the Red Haired crew has no fruits and are at the top of the Emperors. Most importantly, haki is the natural counter to Devil Fruits, so I feel like that has to mean those powers are at odds in a person's body causing them to never truly reach their potential in one power over another. The bonus part of this theory is that I think Blackbeard will successfully steal Luffy's fruit, but simultaneously unlock Luffy's true natural potential because of it. OR because the whole idea of Nika is bringing imagination to life, Luffy could be the only one able to fully master both sides. He's the liberator; not just for people but on his own limits. We saw it to an extent in Udon; even with sea stone cuffs which should have had Luffy drained 100% of the time, he trained his body beyond those limits to handle the drain.

@@wildstorm3486 If we're assuming my second theory is correct about the Nika fruit, it wouldn't matter if Kid matched Luffy toe to toe. Idk if this will make sense especially since it's just my head canon: where fruits normally clash with Haki, Luffy can literally just continuously imagine breaking the ceiling, and instead of clashing, both his haki and Nika can keep growing side by side. Kid would unfortunately hit his ceiling. Again, all speculation but either of my theories make sense to me.

Whitebeard had a devil fruit and went toe to toe with Roger in terms of haki, so that doesn't make much sense. I think the only reason why fruit users tend to have weaker haki most of the time is because they trained their fruit a lot instead of their haki, but it seems that it can still be just as strong as anyone without a devil fruit.

I think it's mostly a problem of struggle, because while it would divide your training between your Haki and Fruit, splitting your focus and time as a result, there's also the issue that Haki blooms through intense combat, and depending on where you are in the world a devil fruit power will generally make things quite a lot easier. Take Enel for example, he was gifted in Observation Haki, and with his fruit he was generally untouchable and a force unmatched until he ran into the wall that is his natural counter, even Luffy had it pretty easy up until he reached the Grand Line because having a superpower is generally going to decrease that struggle that Haki thrives in, whereas a non-fruit user is going to struggle more and also have the extra time to train their Haki since they don't have an entirely separate power to work on.

One minor detail I think you're missing is that Zoan type fruits kinda have a mind of their own, and as such, I believe that, within the vicinity of someone it deems "worthy", in this case Luffy, the Nika fruit will, once again, "call" to his appetite in order to be eaten by him. Probably, if Shanks has it with him during Marineford.

Yeah, it’s shown especially in the live action. But Shanks DID say he was gonna sell it. But if we follow the logic that the Navy would do anything possible to procure it then it would likely end up at Marineford or Marejois, as those places are heavily guarded. In any case, we can assume the Strawhats will eventually go to Marejois, and Luffy will find it then. Or he’ll find it when he goes to the War at Marineford. All likelihood he’ll fight one of the stronger opponents, get knocked into the building, eat the fruit cause it calls to him, and instantly awaken it. Either that or he’ll get knocked out cause he’s not fully used to his rubber body and go Sun God Nika. What do you think?

Hot take: Haki really limited the fight creativity after being introduced. Instead of having to work around the logical weaknesses of each unique fruit ability, it became more of a DBZ-esque "Your power level wasn't high enough to damage me, and therefore your attack does nothing." I found it really refreshing when Law and Kidd trashed Big Mom without Haki by deducing that the weakness of her ability is that others needed to hear her speak. They locked down her ability to automatically win via soul magic, and her homies had very limited to no autonomy without her direct orders.

Luffy being a haki master when he starts his adventure makes sense, seeing how Garp would go out of his way to teach him more and more maybe even going so far to take unexpected off time from the navy to give himself more time to train luffy, before immediately regretting it seeing how he became a pirate. I will go as far as saying he might be his Luffy's rival, since Garp was the one to teach him thus would regret it deeply so daily clashed and of course food breaks

This scenario is quite interesting as I personally think that Shanks didn't pay attention to the fruit cuz the fruit may have avoided being eaten by the one who isn't worthy, it's not far-fetched as it avoided the world government for 800 years + when Roger found laugh tail he said he was too early and he kinda was as luffy awakened the fruit in 20 years + I think hyori [idk if I wrote the name right] sent the samurai's 20 years in the future so I'm pretty sure Luffy eating the nika fruit is fate and I'm sure shanks kinda a lil bit knew that Luffy is joy boy or shanks were sure even if the fruit was right there on the counter he was sure the fruit wouldn't be eaten by the one who isn't worthy so this scenario yeah idk

@@Renno802 Luffy isn't just a simple brawler like Garp. He is a free-style-combat user. In a timeline where he would have never eaten the Nika-fruit he would start with a very decent Armament Haki and developed at least Tekkai and Kami-e. It's logical. I mean, without his devil-fruit which protected him against the most physical of attacks, he would be in much more near-death-situations which will sooner or later trigger Armament Haki and if that happens he will develop it sub-cautiously because of the constant dangerous of his harsh environment. Tekkai and Kami-e will also be a logical consequence of his training because he would always need to block and dodge attacks if he wants to stay alive. He would by far be more dangerous and op for the East Blue than with his devil-fruit because he would have less weaknesses.

I never realized how badass the idea of sea stone brass knuckles are

Garp told Aiokiji no haki or devil fruits, in the Battleship Bags chapter. So I don't think even if Luffy had Haki would Garp train him. Garp was reluctant to even train Aiokiji. I also feel like even if Shanks knows the secret of the Gumo Gumo no mi, he wouldn't train Luffy. If Shanks knows the truth, then he knows it is up to the user to fully incorporate the devil fruit into their body, mind, and spirit to unlock its awakening. This would mean that it is still up to Luffy to unlock the awakening of his devil fruit on his own merit.

I’d imagine if Luffy can swim, Shanks wouldn’t go directly to him, but instead immediately attack the Lord of the Coast, thus keeping his good arm. Also, if Shanks was going to give Luffy the Nika fruit, I think the best time to do so would be right before the time skip so he can learn the basics of it before the new world, alongside the basics of advanced armament and observation haki. Shanks could leave the fruit with Rayleigh as well as an explanation of what it is.

in Ennies Lobby, Luffy would definitely learn some of the rokushiki/six powers to replace gears. heck, when he got gear 2 he learned the flash step immediately, and the "dumb luffy ultra instinct" moment was literally the paper dodge power. imagine he started running on air and kicking out air blades too

5:15 luffys rubber powers is what saved him from being stuck under water because nami had his head stretched out so he could breathe but i think that luffy wouldn't have been in the concrete block without his rubber powers anyways since it was a special move.

Personally? I think Haki-Luffy would not defeat Enel alone at that point, but since the monster trio could have haki too maybe they could beat him down with a bit of teamwork. Ace possibly could have survived Marineford, even with Whitebeard dying in the process, making him an ally in the future. Haki-Luffy could now go all the way to Kaido without many changes, but would NEVER defeat him in a 1x1 without gear 5... But then, maybe with Ace alive he could actually appear at Wano, much like Marco, and help Luffy in the battle against Kaido, and maybe both of them could pull a Kid+Law and defeat Kaido together, maybe with Ace dying in the process if he have to die at some point anyway.

Agree. Luffy could tank Enel's attacks because of his strong Armament Haki and punch him k.o. but only then, if he manages it to grap him. However, I think in such a time-line he would have a high chance to fight him with his crewmates together. This is, because I think he would have developed Tekkai sub-cautiously through his harsh environment while in his childhood too. So maybe his crewmates could all have copied this technique at this point and at least tank some of Enel's techniques and help Luffy to beat Enel. Also, the strawhat-crew would have far better chances against Kaido after time-skip than in the original timeline because I'm sure that through Luffy they all would have mastered a Rokushiki-technique in the end. Everyone would definitely have mastered Tekkai at that point. Especially Usopp and Nami will become masters of Kami-e and Tekkai especially because they are physical weaker than the others. When they reunite, they will have access to Geppo too through Luffy and Sanji. In Wano Kuni they would definitely raid all their enemies through Rokushiki-techniques combined with their own combat styles. I mean, currently Nami and Usopp are still glass cannons but with Tekkai and Kami-e they would become almost unbeatable.

Luffy would be weaker than he is now. Had he eaten the flame fruit as a child instead of his rubber fruit that is, things would have undoubtedly been easier for him in East blue I mean no one except maybe Smoker would be a threat to him at that time and guys like Arlong and Buggy would have been one punched. Same goes for the first half of the grandline (paradise) he'd have cruised through it and wouldn't have had to work as hard.Look at Ace he made it all the way to Whitebeard in relatively quick time though he was easily beaten. That is the power of a logia he might not have mean't for it to happen but logia make people weak they give a type of security that you can’t be touched especially if you get it before actually getting a strength you can rely on aside from the fruit but that's also why it makes Sabo a powerhouse since he was already strong before it,Blackbeard too he trained himself to become strong for years waiting for that logia of his and when he finally got it he truly became a force. But look at Enel the second he realized he could be touched in his fight with Luffy and his attacks didn’t work something that had never happened before was the second he lost the fight. Ace during his fight with Blackbeard,although he realized his devil fruit was now not as effective he didn't have a base strength that could go toe to toe with Blackbeard and thus still relied on his fruit and ultimately lost. Crocodile too though he was the smarter guy he was truly only as strong as his fruit pre impel down arc. All I'm saying is that Luffy became stronger because of the uphill task of having a pretty shitty devil fruit from the beginning lets not pretend we thought that his rubber fruit was strong at first but we all changed our tunes when we saw gear 5. Yet he could have fallen for the same trap of having such a powerful fruit make things easier and thus put in less effort in getting stronger just like Ace which proved fatal Look at all the new top generation pirates the Supernova the only logia among them is Blackbeard who was already strong without it.

I think that luffy can learn advanced conqueror’s haki. During wano him learning it was less getting strong enough to use it but to understand he can do it. If he see whitebeard use it he might do it like how Zoro used advanced Conqueror’s haki after seeing Kaido use it.

Good fanfic, but you ignored a lot of the Haki blooms Luffy would have had in such a scenario. First of all, Haki also increases attack potency, so an already physically-stronger-than-canon Lufy with 3d2y Haki outright oneshots Arlong, Smoker and Crocodile. And he would be stronger since he didn't need years of training just to learn how to punch good with rubber arms. Just good ol' push-ups, sit-ups and Haki reps. Enel is iffy. If he lets Luffy punch him just once to try to style on him, Luffy one shots him. But let's say his Mantra is good enough to let him know he's fucked if Luffy touches him. Luffy gets future sight on his first Haki bloom after trying so hard to dodge Enel's bolts before finally getting a hit in and one-shotting Enel. Getting struck by Enel's lightning is not lethan to the strong, as bith Sanji and Zoro demonstrate. A stronger Luffy plus armament could survive a few lightning blasts and get the W. Then Luffy washes CP9. May not even get to Robin's kidnapping. But even if it does, they could genuinely beat CP9 and still have enough gas in the tank to actually defeat the Buster Call. Hre his Haki blooms again to see not one, but 2 seconds in the future, and his basic armament gets stronger from clashing with the vice admirals. Straw Hats also get Haki blooms from all the fighting. They'd all get higher bounties as well from not running, but breaking a Buster Call. 400 to 500 mil Luffy here. And Luffy would still copy a few Rokushiki moves if he doesn't already know them from Garp. He scraps the Pacifista, but may or may-not get another Haki bloom with Sentomaru. Remember that in Wano he learned advanced armament in a few... days? of training. And learned ACoC after getting hit a few times with it. So I posit that getting hit bu Sentomaru teaches him advanced armament. Or at least the basics. Amazon Lily goes similar to canon except Luffy is much more dominant here. He may actually ask Boa and learn from her about advanced armament suring the time they spent together in her cabin. So Luffy now has advanced armament. Canon luffy hurts Magellan with a Jet bazooka but gets poisoned. Here, he could defeat Magellan after a longer fight since he has advanced armament and can hit him without touching him. Still gets poisoned becaused Magellan is a beast. Will still probably get a smal Haki bloom though. On the way out, he brutalizes Black Beard because by this point his Haki would be too strong. The whole crew is much stronger than canon. On whole cake, he should be able to take out Kat in a brief match and clash more evenly with Big Mom for a Haki Bloom. May learn ACoC here. May or may not beat her actually. Regardless, his bounty becomes higher than canon. Against Kaido, his future sight is probs better than Kat's, his armament on par if not better than Kaido's and his ACoC at least allow him to hang in there. Here Luffy needs to win, because I don't see Kaido allowing such a strong Luffy to survive. So Luffy gets a massive Haki Bloom, and after a hours long fight, he beats Kaido. Also, Luffy would take longer to recover overall without his Zoan durability and regen.

Considering luffys fruit is a zoan im thinking that it not only gave him the stretching abilities but also gave him that buff zoans get when the transform into hybrid form.

I think him not having he's devil fruit will make him a Lil weaker to. He won't be as durable and won't have the bounce back like rubber concept anymore. Being rubber help him more than we think

true but people in the comments have been talking about how strong Koby got after a few years of training with Garp, and Kobe started out as less than fodder. even if Garp only teaches one punch, that 10 years of haki training would definitely get Luffy through that first half of the grand line almost undefeated

Even with advanced forms of haki I don't see Luffy beating Kaido straight up. In 1 v 1 even with gear 5 Kaido surpass Luffy in strength. And in this case during their initial clash itself Kaido will go all out and will not be worn out with all the cumulative battles(in the original story). And hence Luffy will probably meet his demise then and there

I’m sorry, Haki Luffy is starting on the same level as post time skip Luffy? Sure he gets dogwalked by Aokiji, but he beats the brakes off of everyone else. Post time skip Luffy dodges the Pacifista lasers, no problem, how is he getting pressed by Enel’s lightning? Even worse, post time skip Luffy does not need help fighting Enies Lobby Lucci, they wouldn’t even make it to Enies Lobby because Luffy would just win in Water 7. Plus seastone brass knuckles? That’s a wrap. Also how the fuck does Luffy put up a “more than decent fight” against Kizaru? Kizaru put down Gear Fourth Snakeman like it was light work, how is Haki Luffy holding him back? This one doesn’t seem very well thought out.

I think the fight against Kaido would go almost the same way with Luffy fighting in his base form just like in the actual story, just being a little bit stronger cuz of his haki experience and that would make the fight even closer unlike the real story but still in the end, I think Kaido would take it extreme diff

honestly, I think Kaido takes it mid diff. Luffy should only be a little bit stronger than current base Luffy (due to more advanced haki experience, unless Garp taught him the 6 powers, in which case he would still lose high diff).

Let's not forget that Luffy had his balls pulled in Amazon Lilly. If the Kuma timeline plays out as intended, Luffy would have no balls. 😅

Imagine Shanks was searching for a worthy user for the Nika Nika fruit. If Luffy does not eat it then we live in a world where Shanks would choose someone else to do that Job. I think we are underestimating the passive zoan abilities of ruffys devilfruit (fast regeneration) So he could also be weaker against enemies like Enel. Just my take😊

enies lobby's part is interresting, at this point luffy is really strong and while he does not have gear 2, he can just see into the futur to coat the attacked part with a strong haki. and the fact that he doesnt have gear 2 and 3 imply the fact that he doesnt have to deal with the drawbacks mid fight, thus giving him way more endurance
