i have a theory that jax might be an NPC because he dosent act like any other of the circus embers and at the end of episode 2 it seemed like caine was foreshadowing something when he said bad things could happen if npcs joined the circus! :P

The theory is good, but Caine only just made the NPC 57 times more better and Gummigoo was probably the best NPC by far, for example, in the pilot , the Shape creatures there, weren’t really interactive, and almost seemed as if they went following some obvious coded movement, however, Jax has been around for a few years, so the AI must’ve been very underdeveloped, therefore, Caine or any other people who are in charge couldn’t have possibly made Jax such a life like NPC

I 100,100,100% think that we are having a flashback ep because Gooseworx did say that eps are gonna get sadder and sadder so it could be a sad flashback of kaufmo telling a joke that is not funny and Gooseworx did say that we are gonna see jax's worst thing ever what he dose so he could do something bad to kaufmo like saying the exit door is real and just look for it therefore it made him abstract IT IS A THEORY 🧠 and hopefully see kaufmo in a flashback

i think jax knows hes being watched since in episode when where gangle asked if kaufmo is okay and jax said yes.. BUT LOOKED AT THE SCREEN, *but oh guesty he might just be looking back at his peers he left with that ugly creature!!!* well.. that is a possibility. BUT IN ONE EPISODE JAX LOOKED AT THE SCREEN WITH A SMILE AND A "IDK" BODY GESTURE *but he might be looking at the crew!!* THAT IS ALSO A POSSIBLITY BUT DOES THE CREW CARE? NO THEY THINK JAX IS IN SOME SHOW OR SOMETHING (they are) and if jax even got told he had to cope with it and if the other circus members knew they would go crazy and do anything to stop being watched or just abstract. but they wont belive it since jax is a freaking goon.
