It’s all over for Uranus. The ice giant is locked into a collision course with the king of all planets in our Solar System. Jupiter. What would happen as the two planets made their epic approach? Would Uranus get pulled apart into bits and pieces? Or could this ice giant somehow deal a mortal blow to its gigantic opponent?

If Uranus got near to Jupiter's orbit wouldn't it's ice start to melt/sublimate well before it got anywhere near Jupiter? Would it disappear into space, or would Uranus actually expand since its solid matter is converting to gas?
@Random_user_8472
Жыл бұрын
Probably Uranus will be torn apart by Jupiter, parts will fall into the gas giant, other parts will form a new ring around Jupiter. At the same time our entire solar system will get out of balance, with some disastrous consequences for us on Earth.
@scottcramer9232
Жыл бұрын
You are assuming Jupiter is hot Jupiter has no atmosphere it’s not gonna melt the ice I think Jupiter would inhale Uranus and Jupiter would become bigger. We don’t see craters on Jupiter now do we? Um where do the objects go?
@EASYTIGER10
Жыл бұрын
@@scottcramer9232 Arguably, Jupiter is almost entirely atmosphere, at least down to where pressure makes it liquid/solid. And while not exactly warm, the surface is clearly warm enough to melt hydrogen since its a gas at the surface. But the melting/sublimating I'm suggesting doesn't come from its proximity to Jupiter, but to the Sun. Uranus actually has a similar composition to Jupiter suggesting that if it occupied a similar orbit to Jupiter, it would be gas, not ice.. I was wondering: if it would therefore become a gas giant (a "small" Jupiter) or would its lower gravity lead to the gas being blown away over millions of years, eventually leaving a sad rocky care.

Jupiter has a large majority of the Solar Systems non Solar mass. Thus even if Jupiter absorbed everything in the Solar System it wouldn't be close to enough.
A horrifying scenario.
Honestly, if this happens I am far more concerned about what force or object had enough gravitational pull to take Uranus and Jupiter out of their normal orbits because chances are that same object would effect catastrophic changes to us long before Jupiter and Uranus collided.
That thumbnail seems awfully familiar, like when certain Caped Baldy sneezed Jupiter out of existence.

random guess of the left over moons somehow 'falling' into the inner system but..i'm unsure about how that would work so...
@streamofconsciousness5826
Жыл бұрын
It would definitely screw things up, Jupiter is the vacuum cleaner of the Solar System, all the debris from any collision would be getting pushed away from it. I'm pretty sure any body as big as that moving through the Moons orbital plane would affect all of them, the ones it nearly missed or ate right away, the rest over time as they readjusted their orbits to suit the new distribution of Gravity.
@Random_user_8472
Жыл бұрын
The planets together are in a kind of a balance. If two massive bodies collide, the point of gravity in our solar system will change and with that all the orbits of the other planets will change too. Consider Earth as KIA in this process.
@joelhungerford8388
Жыл бұрын
Buy universe sandbox if you're interested in that. As someone mentioned above. The entire solar system pulls and pushes. A scenario like you have asked would impact not only all of the moons around the two planets with most being flung out of the solar system, and others impacting with the sun etc, all the other planets and even the sun will be impacted

Nah Saitama can handle it with single sneeze
I would actually be more concerned about the probability of a runaway planetoid hurtling from outside our system, with either Pluto or Ceres' mass, colliding with Jupiter or Saturn. Even if it didn't do much damage to either gas giant, there's still the potential risk that it could strike one of either planet's moons closest in range to the asteroid belt, causing a vast debris storm that could knock some of the larger asteroids out of the belt and sending them towards both our Moon and Earth.

Haha finally my first view ever for any YT video😅🤐
The planets Saturn, Uranus and Neptune have almost the same gravitational pull as the Earth.
What If is so cool!
If, by some event, Jupiter were to lose mass due to a collision it would spell doom for us here on Earth too. Jupiter swallows up so many comets and asteroids that more than likely would have obliterated Earth at some point. So I'm hoping this or any other planetary collision won't occur to either us or Jupiter.
Who else thought of opm when they saw the video
It would definitely shuffle the orbits of the remaining planets. That could also very easily eject some of the smaller planets, like Earth, clear out of the solar system

So, if there was a sudden increase in the heat from the impact between both planets, wouldn't that rapidly cause the ice of Uranus to melt and evaporate, during which the heat would cause the oxygen and hydrogen atoms to pull apart and ignite the two gases separately... the Hydrogen starting to burn and then the sudden inclusion of Oxygen allowing it to ignite... thus creating the explosion you said wouldn't happen?
