White fills the screen. As we see a man’s hand make his way through the fog, Luke’s robes stick to him as he moves. The laws of gravity don’t seem to apply here, but where is here?!
Where am I? Luke said, his voice echoing in what seemed to be an endless space of nothing.
Hello! His desperation and confusion began to get the best of him. For decades now he trained as a Jedi and yet he had never experienced anything like this.
A moment ago he was blinded by the sun on Ach-To and now he was walking on this endless path of nothingness in a realm that didn’t even seem real. Was this all in his mind? How could he escape this place?
As he continued to walk, he looked for land marks that gave him a reference to his movement and distance. Nothing, this place was like something out of a dream, or a nightmare.
He clutched his belt but couldn’t find his weapon. Right, he remembered, he gave up that life long ago, now he doubted his past decisions.
HELLO! IS ANYONE THERE?! WHERE AM I?
Luke cried out into the nether again, this time his frustration prominent in his tone.
A light source, no two, up ahead, in the distance, he could see orbs illuminating the white mist surrounding him ahead.
As he moved towards it, faster, he felt the sand move beneath his boots. Luke looked towards the floor, realizing he was in the middle of a desert. The mist was gone and found him back home on Tatooine, as he watched a young blonde boy play with a t4a lambda class shuttle. How was this possible, he thought…He was looking at himself, but the boy didn’t seem to notice.
Luke, oh Luke. Dinner’s ready.
Beru. Luke ran to the door to see her once again, as the sands shifted between the crevices of his boots and he was looking at two burning skeletons, smoking at the foot of the homestead. Where once he looked away for a moment, now he never broke his gaze. The horrors of what he had seen were pale in comparison to this. In fact, this was a mere training of the emotional turmoil he would come to know later in his life, and not just from his nephew.
Luke’s Jedi reflexes caused him to duck faster than he could see what was flying overhead, as his entire face was covered in crimson light, looking up to see the towering black clad figure that was his father swinging his fire breathing weapon towards him as he danced around it, the force guiding him, when he looked up again, he did not see his father, but rather the Emperor firing a barrage of force lightning at him. Blue electricity coursing his body and face like spiders, as one tendril covered his eyes to pass and reveal the face of Anakin Skywalker, seconds before his death, smiling upon his son, proud of the man he became.
Luke’s eyes welled with tears.
ENOUGH! The white mist returned.
Your emotions, control them you have not.
All these years and he still has much to learn - said another voice.
I was a slow learner, too, if you remember - said the voice of Anakin.
Luke swivelled around, up down, left right, he heard them, but didn’t see them.
Master Yoda, Father, Ben, where are you?
Away from the force, for too long you have been. Forgot how to commune, you have.
Luke stopped moving. He calmed his mind. His severance from the force made him rusty. For too long was he away from it all, what a mistake. The very thing he thought would destroy him and the galaxy, was what could have actually prevented so much death. There they were.
Father, Ben, Master Yoda. Luke’s emotions were heavy, he was seeing his family again.
Boy is it good to see you guys again, I missed you.
We never left you, Luke, you just chose not to see us.
Fear, clouded your decisions. Unlike you this was, against your training, it was.
My training was what failed Ben. If you were always here you saw what he did to my students, I was responsible.
No, my son, said Anakin. You are not responsible for someone’s downfall. We all have choices, and we all make them. You can never blame yourself for what happened, but you can blame yourself for not helping to make things right.
Anakin put his hand on Obi-Wan’s shoulder, as he looked into his master’s eyes.
I suppose, I still have much to learn as a Jedi Master.
Master?! Ohhhh - said yoda
And what make you think, a Master, you have become?
Of the force? Of your emotions? Of your fear?
Come, Jedi, much to learn, we will teach you.
Luke took the hands of his father and old ben, as they followed yoda in to the mist to unravel the secrets of the force.

I love this! This is like a spiritual journey/adventure for Luke re-learning the Force like he once used it after his own death and facing his own fears/emotions which is interesting. We also get a nice peek of seeing of the afterlife of the Nethworld which is super cool.

To be honest, the story JJ chose wasn’t terrible. It was the execution of what he chose. A more fleshed out movie, giving it time to find itself in smaller moments between the characters, would’ve done wonders. And they should’ve addressed Anakin once. I think when Rey heard the voices she should’ve been transported to the Veil of the Force and spoke to Anakin. Kind of a Dumbledore and Harry at King’s Cross moment.

I think the biggest problem with the ST as a lady with a film degree, who studied screenwriting and production is....it comes down to one single thing....The writing. But not for the reasons people often point to. For me, The GSU aka Goal Stakes and Urgency, are. Not. There. When it comes to screenwriting, you need to answer those questions before you even pick up a pen or get to a keyboard. The audience needs to know WHAT the story is about, WHAT is the objective, WHY they should care. The goals stakes and urgency is the foundation of any good movie. There's a bad misconception that PLOT and CHARACTER are separate. That "oh this movie is plot heavy" but that's just because the writing of the characters is so bad that it seems like it isn't there when it should be. Or "The movie focuses too much on the characters" that's just because the plot is not there when it should be. They're as intertwined as Depp and Sparrow. And with GSU that's well established, you don't worry about that problem. You care about the plot because you care about that character's goals, you care about the stakes OF that plot, you worry about what happens if they fail in that goal, you worry about that URGENCY. You can look at ANY film good or bad, and apply this rule. Movies that have well established GSU are easy to follow and often entertaining and if you are bored in the movie or not paying attention, that's on you not the film. If they are poorly established and you're bored in the movie, that's on the movie not you. Let's take a look at different films from different years and genres to understand. *Jurassic Park:* The Goal is to tour the island before the storm so that everyone gets back and is safe. The stake is that it's people vs dinosaurs and the storm knocked out the power meaning the dinosaurs are able to roam free. The urgency is if you don't get the power back on everything continues to go to hell. *Scream:* the goal is to survive a pair of serial killers. The stakes is that you can't trust anyone. The urgency is that it's only a matter of time before they set their sights on Sidney. She's never safe. *Transformers 2007:* The goal is to get to the allspark before Megatron. The stakes is that if he gets the allspark before Optimus all life on Earth is going to be wiped out. The urgency is Deceptions are already on Earth, going after Sam, THEN it becomes battle heavy urgency in the third act. If Optimus dies in battle, all hope is lost. *Avengers: Infinity War:* the goal is to get to the Infinity Stones before Thanos. The stakes is that if he wins half the universe dies. The urgency is HE HAS TWO STONES GET TF GOING. When you master the goals stakes and urgency in screenwriting, everything else comes naturally. When it comes to the sequel trilogy, the goal is there, the stakes are not, the urgency is not. So the goal no longer matters, you don't care about Rey trying to turn Ben because before she thought him a monster. You don't care about the plot because why does it matter that these things are happening. You don't care about the stakes because it's something we've seen before but better.

    100% spot on

  • @TheRibottoStudios

    @TheRibottoStudios

    Жыл бұрын

@@BigOunce91 it's really tiring to see people still talk about the trilogy and miss the key reason why the movies fail. the GSU is why Multiverse of Madness fails as well. *Goal:* Wanda wants her kids. She needs America's powers to get to them. Okay. *Stakes:* Strange wants to protect America cause if she loses her power she dies. Okay. makes sense death hanging over one's head is always a good classic stake. *Urgency:* At first it's give America to Wanda by sundown thennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.............I....uh. Let's just keep running from Wanda. The urgency of "get her to me by sundown" is now no longer there so it's now just things happening from universe to universe. And there's no STAKES setup for multiverse travel like in Into the Spiderverse. The spiders had to get to their universe or perish. urgency is essentially a ticking clock. If one of the trinity of writing film fails, the other two crumble into dust. The Force awakens is like this too. *Goal:* find Luke before the First Order gets the map location *Stakes:* if they can't find Luke the rebellion is lost *Urgency:* ..........................................can't really think of a good one. And if urgency isn't there, then again it just feels like white noise. The urgency is an important part of screenwriting, because there needs to feel like "if this doesn't happen by x then YA DONE FCKED IT UP" again even TRANSFORMERS did this well. The urgency is during battle things go wrong all the time on a battle field. Trying to play keep away from a GIANT HUMAN HATING ROBOT is the ticking clock. Hiding from Ghostface is a ticking clock. Empire Strikes Back does this very well on the opposite end though. *Goal:* defeat the empire, Luke needs to learn the ways of the force *Stakes:* if Luke cannot become a Jedi there's no hope in facing Vader *Urgency:* this is more over arching. Luke needs to become a Jedi, before he falls to the dark like the Emperor wants. it's really honestly very simple in theory, but hard to execute well lol

I couldn’t agree more. Your a highly intelligent lady with really good common sense and I really think you’d be good with writing and directing. You make these million dollar writers/directors look like they know very little of there professions. Im sick of them ruining these movies over childish behavior and lack of communication. These big companies/industry’s should be looking to put people in charge like you. I hope someday your put in charge of a huge movie brand such as starwars, marvel or even dc which desperately needs writers/directors like you.

My idea would’ve been to make a tv show instead of a trilogy. I wish they did it with mando, and the other shows. Each character could have their own plot line, and we’d get to explore the world of Star Wars which we’ve really only done sparingly. Luke could rebuild the order, we could explore why the Jedi order failed, and how he improved it. Leia could rebuild the republic, while also rooting out corruption. Empire could have several different factions, each with a shaky alliance. Mando could have a deep dive into the criminal underworld.

Yo, Theory. I run a Star Wars Role Playing Game. Created it 21 years ago. It has had hundreds of players in those two decades, and we are holding to modern canon pretty closely. We're 2 years post Episode 9 now, and forging our own story now. It's similar to things like this video. LOts of taelnted writers creating stories of our own set in this era. I know the sequels aren't loved, far from it, but we decided to stick to them before they released. So now that we're past them, we're really branching out with 'What if' style stories. It's fun, so I look forward to more like this from you also. Keep it up.

This got me very emotional! This brings a beautiful conclusion to Lukes arc and also get a beautiful scene to see Obi Wan, Anikan and Yoda together as friends. This is an ending Luke deserved and something the fans deserved to see a hero they love depart.

“If you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine” I guess I always figured they were powerful, but they had to obey the will of The Force and that’s why he couldn’t interfere on Cloud City

Your "bridge" was really pretty awesome man, fantastic story, great narration, hits the feels we all wanted lol Great job. Funny how once you got to 9 and started talking about yoda and luke an all the wild force ability's ghosts have now my heart sunk lol Exploring or explaining this would have felt so much more satisfying within the movies.

I like that force ghosts are more powerful. I think it adds to the mystery of being alive. It also adds to the dichotomy of the Jedi and the Sith. The irony of the Sith chasing eternity and yet it is through death in the light side that you become more powerful.
