What if China made a Toyota Avalon? Meet the GAC Trumpchi GA8

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

For the past 15 years or so, it seems like more or less every Chinese automaker has declared their intention to enter the American market. Generally speaking, these plans didn’t seem to amount to much more than writing a press release with a vague timeline, followed by a whole lot of silence when that timeline came and went. But there have been a few Chinese automakers that really seemed to take the matter seriously. Perhaps none more so than this one, Trumpchi. So, today we’re going to have a go with this Trumpchi GA8 and find what, if anything, Americans are missing out on.

wow, I descovered your channel last night, I've already watched almost all your videos, even if your channel is new (3 months old) the quality of the videos and editing are very very good, also the way you talk and express your opinions are very good. I really hope you keep doing the reviews, i would like to see a review of various great wall models, more electric cars and the quirks and features from those cars. in my opinion, you will turn into the doug de muro of the chinese car industry. cheers from Colombia.

Chinese car brands really need to hire a brand naming consultancy to rename their models for the western markets. Do what the Koreans brands did and westernize their model names (Santa Fe, Soul...)

One thing you forgot to mention is that GAC is partner manufacturer of Toyota, honda and many other Japanese brands in China, the development of trumpchi evolved around huge technological knowledge gained by GAC , over the years by manufacturing Toyota and Honda cars in China, basically we can say trumpchi is an offspring of Toyota and Honda 😁

GAC sells this car here in the Philippines, it is notable though that they've dropped all mentions of the name "Trumpchi" in the branding for our market (I guess obvious reasons). It sells for between 41- 48k USD over here and to put it kindly...it does not sell very well.

The stunning thing is that in every single one, the interior was a parts bin, with designs from a bunch of different manufacturers, as shown here. Buick wheel, Mercedes screen, dash and sonsole, etc Not that it's a bad thing... But still

This model was started around 2015, so they didn't think about having a super high-end transmission system yet. (However the GM8 minivan received a new 8-speed gearbox for the 2020 refresh. Weird.) I'm pretty sure that with GAC's heavy attention to the BEV market, it won't be long before they ditch this model in favor of a similarly sized AION sedan to conveniently compete with the BYD Han, XPeng P7 or the Tesla Model 3. And I'm sure the AION will look much more futuristic.

This car's exterior looks like a VW Passat, not so much like an Avalon. Inside, it somewhat reminds me of a Genesis G90, but with much less quality of materials and luxurious appearance. As far as the performance goes, it's way below current standards for acceleration. Also, how does it do in crash tests? That's really important in the market. It's a sedan. I don't see many going for it in the USA.

When the Japan auto industry was starting many people thought they were crazy to try and compete with the mighty US industry. Same deal with Korean cars in the 80s. Absolute trash, now winning awards.

Some VW Passat influence at the side and rear..... why aren't the Chinese capable of innovation and orginality? They always just copy.

Because when people see "Chuan" they will pronounce it in many different ways, and "Trump" is really easy to pronounce.

Awesome all GAC sedans used the alfa romeo 166 platform until these days.. i can recognize the shock absorber dome which is the same from the 166. This platforum is really outdated ! It goes back to the alfa 164 the last one sold to the united states ! i understand why those cars are soo cheap..
