@TheGiantKillers
5 жыл бұрын
@@adobdebunkology5671 Certainly Lineker and Kendall would have stayed longer and they would have been very unlucky if they had reached 1990 without winning at least one Champions Cup. However, the problems at Everton were off the pitch rather than on it. They were run by dinosaurs who failed to recognise the changing financial situation in England at the turn of the 90s. So while the other clubs of the 'then' big 5 invested in growing their financial clout, Everton didn't but tried to spend at the same level and went broke at a crucial time when Football finances were changing dramatically. That said, Everton have a heritage and history and infrastructure that suggests that it's only a matter of time before they join the elite again. The big question for Evertonians is will it take 5 years or 50?

That Everton team of 1985-7 is probably the most underrated team of the last 50 years. Alan Hansen was asked a few years ago if Liverpool 1986 was the best double winner in history. His reply, which caused a bit of controversy was "without a doubt, because none of the others had to beat the best team in the world to win it."
