WHAT I WISHED I KNEW BEFORE ATTENDING THE HARVARD GRADUATE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION [HGSE]

I attended the Harvard Graduate School of Education during the 2015-2016 academic year. At that time, I was pursuing a Master of Education in Education Policy and Management. Aside from the website and the admissions office, I had no one to help me best prepare and maximize the opportunities at HGSE. In this video, I share with you 7 things I wish I knew before attending HGSE. These are advice and tips that I wish someone would have told me.

WHO AM I?
I am a Harvard Graduate School of Education alumni '16 and a current PhD student in the Department of Education Studies at the University of California San Diego. I produce videos about the graduate school application and my journey through a PhD program. Subscribe to follow my journey through the PhD experience and to gain insight on how to best prepare for the graduate school application process.
I created this channel because I did not have access to many resources when I was applying for graduate programs. Now that I have been through two graduate school application processes, I want to share my knowledge and the helpful information I have gained through those experiences.
Additionally, for the past four years, I have been working as a Retention Specialist and Director for a federally-funded program at a higher education institution. I spent these four years helping over 400 students to apply to four-year institutions, attain scholarships, and navigate the higher education system. I created this channel in order to share my knowledge of college access as it pertains to graduate school.

    I just found your channel and I am binge watching like crazy! I wonder if you have gatherings with future grad students, because I would love to meet you to talk about HGSE. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge! I am sure that a lot of people, like me, really appreciate it.

    Hi Daniela, I am so glad my videos are helpful. I created the channel for the purpose of helping others with the grad school process. At the moment, I do not meet with subscribers. I plan to host a webinar in the near future in order for me to interact with you all. I do, however, offer a SOP review service on Fiverr for a small fee. You can also ask me questions and I’ll gladly provide my insight.

    Silly question! Does HGSE ask for the official high school transcript or just the undergraduate transcript?

  • @IvanValdovinosGradSchool

    For graduate school, anything that you present has to be from undergrad and beyond. Anything before that is irrelevant.

    I just was accepted to Hgse! For a masters. I, too, hope to get a PhD later on. Could you tell me, how easy it is to get involved in research at Hgse? How many students work with professors or in research labs?

  • @IvanValdovinosGradSchool

    @IvanValdovinosGradSchool

    Жыл бұрын

    Congratulations! HGSE and Harvard as a whole has many research centers where you can get involved with research. You can always approach any hgse professor and ask if you can work on their projects. Most students attending hgse are interested in practice so not many students conduct research. However, hgse does hold a research conference so students do conduct research. Good luck!

    You will be able to apply for masters programs. Your master program or PhD program does not have to relate to your undergraduate degree.

    Nice bro! I would recommend figuring out your passions and your potential future career. I’m order to be able to do that, you should get involved. When I was in high school, the only thing I did was play sports. I was not at all prepared for college yet alone graduate school. I did, however, knew where my passions were and that was education, business or medicine.
