    No need to rush into a big boy. Get yourself acclimated to caring for them and everything they need. After a year or so, you can look into the giant and super giant genetics. I have one myself, and he's such an amazing little bud! He's 190 grams and I'm about to change his enclosure to bioactive.

    We just got a leopard gecko a couple weeks ago and we are so grateful for these videos! They’ve been invaluable for my daughter and me. One other thing we wish we’d known is that sometimes the leopard geckos won’t eat for awhile when you first bring them home. Our guy D’oro (nickname Dorito) didn’t eat until 10 days after getting home. But now he’s doing great with his dubia roaches!

But he’s eating like a champ I throw the crickets in their to him an he slams down on them in seconds. Definitely more active with the lights off I find his little nuggets around the tank. We had a leopard gecko that ended up getting metabolic bone disease. We thought we did great research. We forgot the calcium powder. 11. Not all leopard geckos like being pets. This may be more of a 10.5, but it’s true. Some leopard geckos just do NOT LIKE being handled… or looked at… or being visible to people. I have a wonderful classroom gecko, so I decided I wanted a second. He is what I term a “ghost gecko” - he hates interacting with me. Five months in, I had him finally accepting food from tongs… and then I had to move his tank, and now I’m back to square 1. I have barely handled him because he dislikes it so much… he was 2.5 years old when I got him from a good breeder, and it looks like getting him comfortable with being a beloved pet may be a long term project!

    The Arcadia Shadedweller UV is wonderful. I noticed a huge difference in Nova's activity and appetite and he frequently basks between the UV and the heat projecter. I agree the projecter is an amazing piece of equipment. I'm kinda pissed he refuses to eat BSFL. If it's not a dubia he snubs it. Such a brat lol. Dubia are great, I have a small community of them and just found some new babies also.

  • @darkstrider13
    @darkstrider13 Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for this video! Great timing, actually. I just got a Leopard Gecko last week and have been a little confused as to what to use for lighting/hearing. Right now I have an Arcadia Shadedweller for UVB and day cycle and a Ceramic Heat Emitter for all day and night heat. I did get a Fluker’s dimmable dome and an Arcadia 50W halogen bulb to hook up, which I’ve not done yet. Then I will switch the heat emitter to just night heat. But now I seen your recommendation for a Deep Heat projector! So, with that, and the UVB, is that all you use or still need a daytime basking bulb? On the Deep Heat Projector, I see Arcadia sells two domes…a 5” and an 8”. Thinking maybe the 50W heat projector bulb with the 5” dome? He’s in an Exo-Terra front opening 40 gallon tank. Suggestions on what I have already VS implementing the Deep Heat projector would be awesome. Thank you!

  • @ellesreptiles

    @ellesreptiles

    Жыл бұрын

    Great decision to switch from just ceramic heat emitter to the Halogen basking bulb. Ceramic heat emitters are good for supplemental heating, but not great for the main source of heat. I absolutely love the Deep Heat Projectors: I just use it and UVB. 50W should work great for a 40 gallon tank - that's what I use, and I don't even have it turned all the way up. I'm not sure about the arcadia domes, as I've never used them. I just use a fluker's dome with a dimmable switch. As far as what to use, I would honestly just use the Halogen basking bulb until it blows (since you already bought it) and then, if you wanted to, switch to the DHP and try it out. Then you can decide which you/your leopard gecko like the best. 😊

I was so worried, but I did get her to have a meal worm here and there. Well now she is doing so much better and has graduated to crickets she will be 1 on May 1st! 😍😍😍😍 We just got her a 40 Gallon tank too and she is about to shed so she is doing absolutely amazing, but I was so scared. Turns out she was fed up with the meal worms and ready for the big girl food! Her name is Sherbert and she is a Giant Pos. Super Giant Atomic Tangerine Carrot tail Tremper Albino Baldy Super Hypo a friends girlfriend breeds them, but Sherbert actually has a little bit of a underbite and had a calcium deficiency. We got her for a discounted price for the underbite she doesn't have a deficiency anymore. She has come so far and is so big now! One thing I'd like to know, is it ok for them to cohabitate? My parents made me get 2 when i was getting 1 because they "didn't want it to die, because they get lonely" but recently I keep seeing that they shouldn't be cohabitated, so now i feel really bad, and I don't have another tank if I do need to seperate them, I mean they're both females and they seem to get along just fine, but I want to give them the best lives possible, and I'm starting to worry that I'm not doing the best job, because i don't want them to be stressed, I've had them for around 2 months now and their names are El and Max, I really love them and i just want the best for them Edit: I also feel the need to mention that they both eat really well, i give them 10-12 mealworms every other day and they seem like a good weight, pretty chubby, not skinny, but not obese, along with the fact that the lady at the pet store told me i have to use this fake little grass mat thing while they're babies cause they'd accidentally eat soil or whatever, which means she didn't really know what she was talking about, and now i feel the need to get them some soil and possibly a heat lamp

    I give my leo only 2-3 wax worms a week, but she also eats crickets and mealworms (I can't find dubia roaches at my pet stores). I usually give her the wax worm after she lets me hold her for a bit.

    I wouldn’t feed waxworms that often. You may be able to order roaches online. Other feeders to look into: Live silkworms and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly, super worms and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better!

    Oh no - I’m rehousing a leopard gecko that was really underfed and it was kind of a spur of the moment decision. The reptile store said feeding wax worms will fatten her up and I have wondered why she isn’t eating the roaches I got her as much. I think she’s totally addicted to the wax worms :/ tips in waning her off?

    I've had 3 bearded dragons (my wife has had 4, as she had one before we met). We've had a leopard gecko for 2 years, as my neighbor, who owns/owned several reptiles and a parrot, had to get rid of a few of them, and my wife and I were blessed to have gotten a leopard gecko, who is absolutely beautiful and wonderful. Also, he is hand-fed 99% of the time, but I digress. I've learned to different male and female bearded dragons (particularly if they're adult). I do not, however, know how to tell the difference between adult geckos. Is there any way that a layman, such as myself, can tell the difference between a male and female gecko? More specifically, a leopard gecko? I would greatly appreciate any tips or resources that you can recommend! Thank you for sharing your knowledge on these wonderful creatures! Blessings and kind regards!

    Remove uneaten insects, when left in the enclosure they may bite the gecko. A varied diet is ideal, hornworms don’t make the best staple. Try roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae. You can also try rubbing hornworm guts on other feeders. Good luck.

    Hi Elle, we got our Oscar last year from our daughter and didn't know a lot about them and we are still learning. But my worry is that something is wrong bc he sheds all the time, but he is also about 7 or 8 inches long now. He won't go in a moist hut. We have sprayed him a few times, but I am scared to pull the left over skin on his little feet. What do you suggest I do and what is best way to get him moisture? Thanks. Sorry so long on comments. Tammy

  • @ellesreptiles

    @ellesreptiles

    Жыл бұрын

    Maybe try to move the location of the moist hide if possible? As far as the toes, you can use a shed helper, or just keep spraying water on his toes. If he'll let you, you can also put him in a container with warm, wet paper towels on the bottom for about 10-15 minutes (make sure there are air holes of course). That should help his feet get some moisture.
