    Thanks for talking openly about this, since a lot of us actually do live with disabilities. I have Severe ME/CFS with POTS. It's why i don't have a tortoise, but also why snakes make such IDEAL pets. They're my speed, lol. I have everything automated to make sure their habitats are ideal, and I can clean on days with more energy. But they don't need tending every day. I check on them, and that's it. If I miss feeding day by 24 hours, no one suffers for that and I feed the next day instead. Bulk ordered rodents are great! Right to our door. And when I have a feverish flareup, my ball python Finnley makes a helpful cool pack that stays on my neck and shoulders. Unlearning hyper-independence is so hard! I'm working on it! Snakes make awesome pets that are compatible with a lot of lifestyles and energy or mobility levels. I find mine also very calming and therapeutic.

    I'm a Combat Veteran that was medically retired back in 2014 due to many permanent issues. I too understand the struggle. We have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 guienie pigs, 1 Beardie with MD, a Ball Python, and Sand Boa. I use them as therapy around the house. Some days are just harder than others. Hang in there. You got this!!

    We have been on the struggle bus recently. Me and my wife have 3 kids, 2 of which are special needs. Our beardie is well cared for but our children do make it challenging due to the attention they require due to there needs. But this is nothing compared to what you have gone through these last several months though. I hope you continue to make strides with your health

    I was so anxious about bringing a new animal home to care for with having fibromyalgia and just having gotten out of my journey of grieving my mother. My activity level is still not what I really want it to be, but I have a very easy 10 month old male cornsnake. There have been days I did not feel like caring for anything other than my basic needs, but I never missed a day of caring for my snake, holding him at least once or twice during a week, and feeding him on time! I knew I could not take care of another animal that needed more specialized care almost everyday. I've loved my little snake and he brings me so much peace and joy and that is the biggest blessing ever. I've decided to get one more snake next breeding season. I will not get anymore pets after that as my pain levels and my energy levels just could not do right by them or me! Thank you for putting this out. I know there are others looking for a sign! Hugs from Texas!

    I feel this one for sure and can relate. I was running a 501c3 rescue for a while and was in a really bad car accident back in February. Broke my neck, was close to being internally decapitated, and suffered a brain injury. I'm not functioning well anymore. Had to close the rescue and now I'm having family help care for my personal animals because there are days I can barely get out of bed. Its tough. Keep staying strong, you got this!

    I think this is one of my favorite videos of yours ♥I'm really glad you've been doing better each day, and I think this video shows how caring and thoughtful you are that you're using this experience to try to make reptile keeping more accessible for everyone else, too. I really love your videos and I just think you're really amazing! I would really love if you made a video including your ADHD like you mentioned in the description if you're comfortable with that. I have ASD and my mom and my brother have ADHD and it would be so cool to learn about how you've made reptile keeping work best for you!

    My disability slipped into debilitating over time. Regardless of the time it takes, we become differently abled as adaptations to our new lifeway's. It's the most human expression and experience there can be. Being exposed to myself at my worst has only furthered my understanding of neurology better than if I had read academic studies without experiencing it. I am and always have been disabled. Literally clinically "not advanced" in math, social and communication abilities. I embrace that. I know where I'm very advanced. I know I can't be me in a social situation. But that also gives me an in road to social communication. In breaking social norms, I'm able to make fun of myself and shock people into learning by blatantly using the R word. It may seem rude, but it helps shed insight on my people. People that get called that, yet are far more advanced socially than me. I'd get into a fight defending them, yet they just roll it off the shoulders with a private "that guys a dumbass" after just ignoring them. For me I go straight into defense/ fight mode instead of flight. For me that's just not possible. I use my perfectly average bog standard issue white guy body to spread insight on what I truly am. At least when I'm not stammering like an incoherent mental patient in a social space lol

    Visually impaired here and your ideas resonates with me so much. I HATE asking for help SO MUCH!!! I have a gargoyle gecko and recently adopted an adult leo from Animal Trax... No way would I ever get a baby reptile again. I also,so far,have lost six crickets in the house,but none survived long enough to drive me crazy. I also hate them for the same reasons you do. Anyway,truer words have never been spoken that what you said in this video. 💞

    Congrats on your new leopard gecko! My gargoyle has been pretty easy, since she doesn't like to be held or touched. She just sits back and waits for food to come to her. Definitely no complaints there. Haha I have no idea how many crickets have been lost in my house - not a fun time 😅 I'm glad you didn't have to listen to lost cricket chirps for days though!

    Great video! And since we're on the topic, I am disabled (much worse than you ). I am paralyzed from the waist down and currently bedridden (hoping that's not gonna last forever ). I REALLY want a Leopard Gecko. Can I get a rolling tank or a table that rolls to put it on so that it can be rolled beside my bed to help with the care and also spending time with it? Is my owning a Leo something you can see feasible? My mom isn't going for it because she doesn't think it's possible. Please prove this wrong! Lol

  • @ellesreptiles
    @ellesreptiles22 сағат бұрын

    You can definitely get a rolling table for a leopard gecko tank! I've never thought of that, and it's such a good idea. Leopard gecko enclosures usually don't weigh much, so finding a table that supports its weight shouldn't be a problem. You can always do a rolling workshop style table, that way you can have all of the care items right there on/in the table, too. I wish you all the best on your journey 💜💜💜

    You did a GREAT job, Elle. Iwas diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which rocked my world. Going from 100 %independent to needing help 🤯 was traumatic. It took me years to ask for help. Not because people didn't offer, but I didn't want to bother ppl needing help. Many years later, married, etc. It still bothers me to some degree but, I have to, plain and simple. It stinks, but it's ok. EVERYBODY on some level or circumstance needs help. I NEVER mind helping someone if I can, I like being able to help anybody, everybody, so why should I not give that good feeling of helping someone else? Good question. I should give myself the same grace. Elle. I completely understand. We should give ourselves the same treatment we are happy to give others ❤❤. Glad you brought up, some animals are easier for different circumstances. I would LOVE a crestie, but I know...too fast for my dexterity now, so I love my leos and that's ok. Grace for ourselves and situations is A MUST ❤. YOU are wonderful and a Godsend. You are doing amazing things for So many ppl and now even more. Just in ANOTHER capacity as well 💪🏼💪🏼❤. But it's crazy and nobody is expecting or planning for a stroke in our 30s lol but I guess it happens. And I was in really good shape when I had my first stroke. The best way that I could describe it was that it was like they deleted my operating system and replaced it with a new one that I had no clue about and I didn't get the owners manual to the new one lol. I'm not talking about with walking and things, but my attitude was just gone and I was hateful to everyone that was important to me. And I've always said that patience is a learned behavior and it had taken me 34 years to learn the amount that I had when the stroke wiped everything out.
