So many great tips here! But especially that note to write down as much as you can about the interview as soon after as possible. I often ask if I can take notes during the interview and most interviewers actually appreciate that :)

This definitely deserves a new video! Now I would say how crucial portfolios are. They went from nice to haves to essential. That’s what I’ve been sharing about lately is how to make great portfolios.

Luke, Great channel, super helpful. I really like the look n feel of your videos. I’m a professor in Workplace Learning and I’m trying make quality instructional videos with a Sony A7C. My big question: how do you *capture* the audio & video? Do you use an SD card and import later, or do you tether your camera? (I.e. Is your audio connected to your camera or do you do audio syncing in post-production?). What’s best to produce the quality you’ve achieved?

Hi Seth-Aaron! Thank you for the compliments! This comment is actually funny because I just got this camera and I've been experimenting trying to make the videos the best I can. I don't know if my method is the most effective way, but I can tell you what I'm doing! I record the video on an SD card while at the same time, I record the audio on Garageband. In post production, I delete the audio my camera microphone picks up and then replace it with the microphone that's going into Garageband. I do these through Adobe Premiere. This usually comes with a 2 second lag, so I need to time up the video file over the audio file. When I start recording, I clap and then sync up the audio and video. I'm sure there has to be a better way out there to do this, but that's what I did for this video! The audio from my real microphone was 100 times better compared to my camera's mic. You can choose to connect to an external camera through the same software you record the audio through in your computer. If you're computer is using Garage band you could try it in that or download OBS which I know for sure would allow you to do this. Would save you having to audio sync after. You will need to buy a cable to connect your camera to the computer and this varies depending on the camera model.

Notes: Decide where you want to work. What do you look for from the employer? What's valuable to you? Do they value you as a human being? Verify in Glassdoor. Practice interview questions. Learning theory, design process. Write a script on how to answer the questions. Practice. Ask yourself questions on PPT and answer them. (Spacing Effect). Record your answers. Use Zoom. Be able to explain a portfolio and the process. Write everything you could remember during the interview. Names. Their questions. Review your one answers. Write down and practice follow-up questions. Rethink the concept of feedback. Ask if the interviewer was engaged. Don't sweat the small stuff. Learn from your experiences. Be mindful.

Hi Luke. I am an ESL teacher who received my TEFL cert. in Poland. I have been teaching for 5+ years here in the US, overseas, and mostly online because of Covid. As you know,. Covid impacted teachers negatively, and I too experienced this as my role was devalued. I have been an independent contractor as well as a direct teacher with most of my adult students (I teach specifically adult learners in middle/upper-level management). I am definitely interested in ID, but was wondering if my education might be a barrier. I have my AS, along with a cert. in computer graphics and design that is more than 20+ yrs old. I have no desire to return to higher ed. right now to get my BS or master's. Do you think it's feasible that I can get into ID, just on experience alone, especially working with corporate business folks (custom-made lesson plans/projects each one worked on) teaching English?. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

After applying job, many time in their answer they say you are very skilled and background is impressive but i did not get any interview. I recently graduated from 2 year post graduate course related to e learning designer. I have knowledge of many softwires still not getting responses. Can you please tell me what can i do. I even got very good grades from course. I am very disappointed. I have nice portfolio which shows up 2 years projects and other projects while studying
