What I Sold and Why

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I sold a bunch of stuff on Facebook marketplace. Let me show you how easy it is and how you too, can let go of a bunch of stuff you never use and liquidate all of it! It can make you feel so free and clear your mind to concentrate on things that matters more to you.

Selling stuff is super addicting, I accidentally sold a few too many of my items last year and I had to re-buy some stuff, oops. Now I fulfill that satisfaction with stuff like eBay flipping from thrift stores lol.

Also had a cable to connect it to cell phone and a camera attachment for photos (this was prior to color screen and camera phones) One of my first photos was taken at a Sox game and I sent it to all my friends via email “Live from Fenway”. Took me 30 mins to get it done. So while everyone was watching the game I was tinkering with this electronic gadget for 30 mins!! When people claims that they did not lose money on selling items at the same price that they paid for it is only partially true. People tend to forget the incurred gas (and toll) expenses in going to buy the items. My wife gives me the look when I say it to her when she makes that claim.

James H - it’s not a matter of being financially poor. It’s just a matter of mathematical fact. If an item is $20 and need to spend $4 in CA gas money, that amounts to 20% surcharge of the item. What is negligible would be the wear on fluids, tires, brakes, drivetrain

You pay taxes on the net profit, but you still have to report the income to the IRS (and the cost basis, etc). Same rules apply for other similar things, like rental income. And it's not just Federal, you have to pay state income taxes on your profit. Then local / county income taxes and/or business privilege / mercantile tax (if applicable) which isn't based on profit but rather on total sales. All I can say is if you are making youtube videos about selling your stuff, showing the actual items and the cash publicly in the video, and further profiting off the videos...you NEED make sure you have all of it accounted for on the back end

Yeah, kind of agree, a lot of frugal people have a tendency to put a lot of value to their cash but not to their time. Like spending 2 hours to save 20$, going between different supermarkets with coupons doesn't make much sense since you are more likely to make more money while working for roughly the same period of time.

The only thing I can think of selling is mostly clothing. Do you think I could sell my clothes via a thrift shop?!? I also have a home stereo system from a good manufacturer and thinking I could get decent money for it since it works fine.

I haven't sold much clothes but the stereo will go well on eBay. Shipping will eat into the profits but you can likely get more on there from the higher traffic.

It’s amazing people on Facebook Marketplace would bother buying a tape used tspe measure for $3 instead of buying a new tape measure at a store for about the same amount. How much time and transportation cost did you spend to meet people or to ship packages? You’d really need to deduct those expenses from the Facebook Marketplace sales. Does Facebook Marketplace take a percentage of the revenue?
