I started getting a much better success rate (plays) when I switched my mindset as viewing auditions as an opportunity to practice and enjoy myself. People can smell desperation.

Your idea is correct and it works qith anything really. My parents would always tell me before baseball or softball games to go out as if I'm practicing and have fun. When you try to hard to impress it always almost goes to shit. Any time I just had a great time and didn't really think so much I played amazing

I had a recent audition and I knew I did a good audition but I knew there was an age factor and the way I looked. I didn't get the part but the director later told me that I had done a really good audition and that it was a tough call for him not to cast me.

Basically: Don’t waste time and keep them craving.

This is perfect for actors and auditions..Go in. do the work and get out of Dodge...

He's so convincing in every part I've ever seen him in.

I’m in sales and nothing runs people faster away than being desperate. Act like you are just having fun and enjoy yourself you will attract more people.

The “better to leave to quickly” line kind of throws me. If someone performed their audition and immediately left I feel like that would look pretentious or at the least it would like the actors who “didn’t want the job” that he also mentioned. I get it, no one wants the auditioned to linger too long or be clingy, but between the two options I think I’d prefer it. Having been on the caring side of things. Staying just a bit after convinced me that you’re interested.

I've been an agent for 15 years and have attended many castings and I 100% agree with him. Do your job, thank them and then leave. I've never had anyone do that and it turn me off. In fact, I mostly appreciated it. Just my 2 cents.

This one is really good. Best of luck testing out this new strategy. If you can get yourself into a position where you are on the other side of the casting process we imagine that would help even more.

This is the best advice. As an actor myself in LA, treat the audition as THE performance you'll deliver on camera. When it's over, move on to the next one like you did your job. Don't even ask if you got the part, if you did well, or when you'll hear back. None of that. Just thank them and walk out knowing you did a great job or if you think you didn't, learn on what to do well next audition. That's it! Do not dwell on anything, even parts you do book. Have fun every step of the journey. 👍🏽

I love what he said that it's better to have them have to reach to keep you in the room than you to linger too long. Actors need to trust the process and to try to not care too much about the result.

They probably like it when we do the self taped auditions emailed in for these reasons. Lol This is helpful info though even for those too.

It is common sense but actors are egotistical and manipulative to try more in the situation

This is a great tool I used to take myself out the mindset of "I'm not good enough" and feeling like I am that person. When you are an actor or entertainer, you can't have an airhead. The reason you have a job is because of them. Don't walk in the room shaking in your boots, it makes it uncomfortable to watch, and don't walk in with your nose turned up. Be humbled and grateful for the opportunity, because you may never get a callback with a funk attitude. You may have great talent, but your nasty personality causes you an opportunity. Be willing to make mistakes. Will Smith said, you must be willing to be vulnerable and open to mistakes as an actor. You can't want to be other than human. You can't take everything personal in this industry, you will NEVER make it. Your anxiety is an excuse so you don't have to face fear. Don't walk into an audition looking for critics. That is not their job and they don't owe you a damn thing. You are your brand and product, you should beware of yourself, no one else. YOU make YOURESELF better, nobody else. A lot of actors fail in the industry because of the standard mindset. Actors (not all) must be open-minded to create a masterpiece. You may know the formula, but it doesn't mean you have the answer, you only have the knowledge/skill, but what about your drive and work ethic? What makes you stand out. Never be afraid of making a mark in any room you step foot in. You may not get the role, but you got the attention for a possible call for a future film. Stay driven, work hard, and develop yourself. Think ahead of time, research and watch the details. You'll realize the simplicity of art is what makes a portrait a masterpiece.

Basically to make a long story short Get in and get out.

and what happens when you know, from the moment you walk in the door, one guy. looks at you, you know youre not welcome. i tell you, its the biggest kick in the balls, you ever get, then the girl you read with, is reading the lines on the page, and dosnt, know what lines to read, oh sorry was i meant to read that. and you just look like a tool, and their like, we all get paid too watch this shit actor, and then the guy who didnt like you, didnt want you, says to himself, oh i will tell him what to do, maybe i was wrong about this guy, and youre head is spinning, and you know, you should never have come into this room. you knew it from the start. you could feel the room, and you knew you knew, but still you did it. and it hurts like hell. never let them take youre power. stand their and say, i will do this to my best, and i dont care if they like it or not. i can only do my best. and keep telling yourself that one day, you will walk into a room, and they wont be assholes.

+sid garo Apparently Rob Reiner immediately dismissed Liam Neeson for 'Princess Bride' when he first walked in for being too short for the role.....It's probably rarely a personal thing....they just know straight away you don't look like what they want. Even then there have been stories of people immediately being judged on their look but going on to blow them away with the read....chin up.
