dope tutorial! you tapped into something i had heard knx say during a beat review on his twitch, which was "Y'all need to let y'all beats breathe more". Having those gaps where there's no sample and just drums or just a vocal chop creates that anticipation for when it comes back in. Another thing i've learned from remaking knx's stuff is that his drums a're usually on the grid except the hi hats are usually a bit delayed. A great deal of what we assume is drum swing is how his drums mesh with the sample. On "Suede", you can hear how the first few bars are on beat but then the timestretched Gil Scott Heron sample falls off time and gives a feel that wouldn't be there if the sample was quantized to fit the loop. so[rt] has an interesting pocket because of the delayed hats but also because the sample is in 6/4 and knx found a perfect place to sample and just let it play while he added drums.

Fam insane! You hit the nail on the head. While I incorporate some amount of swing in all my beats the obsession with SWING SWING SWING MORE SWING SWING THIS SWING THAT bruh lmaoo 😂. It's funny if you swing everything nothings really swung is it? Also you can swing the hell outta your beats and they can still sound hotdog water 😂. Buy yes you must let your beat breathe it is vital, it's like you're teasing the listener.. lmao gotta edge the ears 💀... don't quote me plz. I'm glad you diggin the vids, I've def peeped your remakes in the past good shits fasho. Remaking beats are tuff especially when your trying to emulate aliens man... good stuff! 💯

dope video my guy 😮💨 just one more technique that I think is super underrated and it's used in a lot of knxwledge beats, it's a really suttle sidechain on the kick onto the overall track, it makes the song more wavy and dynamic
@JayDAndre

Thanks homie!! You know everyone keeps pointing this out! Almost 100% of my beats I'm sidechaining my kicks to the sample. I used to use FL Studios stock limiter but now I use Vulf Compressor. I'll def make sure to mention that part I usually do it out of habit these days and don't think to talk about it! Thanks for the input!

So forever I always wanted one cause I thought that was how you make the type of beats I love. Then I learned it's not about the tool.. it's the creator and the creativity. I been a DAW warrior forever and even after having a sp 404 mk 2 sp 303 ko ii maschine micro I love the computer the most. So I’m a big student to the game, but I have NO prior knowledge of music theory, nor have the resources to go out and learn. I know there ain’t no excuse, but do I need all that to start my own beats? Like yourself, I take every producer, listen & grab stuff here & there. KZread became my school of production & music theory, I be winging it lol. All said & done , masterclass of an explanation with these tips bro, really shed me light

Do you need to know music theory to start making beats? No.. will it help to know a little bit? Yes! I think having a certain understanding of it will only benefit you but it's not of the most importance. Go for feeling and what sounds good to you. Just start making stuff KZread is the perfect place to learn, but don't get caught up watching 1000 tutorials without making something. It's good to learn but you gotta practice too! Good luck famo! Dope any tips for matching an original bass line with a sample
@JayDAndre
4 күн бұрын
You might hear this often but two good tips! Follow to root notes! And use your ear! Sometimes to make it easier I'll use a eq to isolate the bass to hear it then I will try to replicate it or add my own spin on it. after eqing out the original bass. If there was no bass at all, again try to follow the root notes of the chords or melody, this is where using ear is important. There are so many tools you can use if you don't know the key of your sample like Serato Sample, I love Mixed in Key, and free ones like Tunebat online. Find the key and use notes in the scale to make a bass line. Start it off simple and add a little razzle dazzle here and there! Good question!
This beat is so dope. For the change up, how much did you speed up the sample compared to the previous section? That change up is so fire. Thank youu
@JayDAndre
5 күн бұрын
Thanks my g! Actually i didn't naturally speed it up at all! I just pitched it up and played a different progression to match with the drums. When u make subtle differences they seem monumental in the long run! I gotchu fam!

Dope Video and Beat! One thing I‘m confused with is you showing significant High-Boost on the master but then saying „cut some Highs to get that warm sound“ 🤔
@JayDAndre
2 ай бұрын
Thanks homie! I'm glad you was feeling it! About that I put a lot or processing that cut highs using analog emulation but you can go another route and just cut some highs to warm the signal too! I was adding some in cause I took out a lot!

@@JayDAndre ah I see. Thanks :)
This is a great beat! I will say: on the mixing... Look into gain staging. You should be normalizing quiet signals like those before running them through plugins. Youll have waaaay better final production quality. Plus, you dont have to turn your system all the way up when making your beat. Seriously dope beat though.
@JayDAndre
2 ай бұрын
You are 100% correct on the gain staging it can really make things easier lol. To be honest for these beats I've been making and mixing them like i was making it on a 404 or mpc focusing on the master. I did very minimal tweaks to individual sounds.
