What I learned from BEING SOBER for TWO YEARS (motivation to quit drinking)

It really helped me to quit drinking by focusing on the benefits of being sober. I hope this video motivates and inspires you to get control over you drinking problem.

My journey to veganism was not a straight line. I flip flopped between being vegetarian and vegan for years! I fell off the wagon so many times, I have permanent bruises on my metaphorical ass.
I finally got it to stick after spending more time educating myself, connecting with the ethics of veganism and finding a vegan online community so I didn’t feel like an outsider. I’ve now been a satisfied and healthy vegan since 2015.

I ran across this video again. Yes, everything you say about sobriety is so true. I was 53 days sober and I relapsed due to bad events in my life. Thanks for the video. I am going to stop again. My health and my bank account will love it. Making that decision to quit is hard but doable. Many blessings to all. Moment of silence for the one who is still suffering.

Been a while since I watched a video like this. I’m a few months shy of 3 years sober and I remember when I was contemplating giving up alcohol and in the early stages, watching a lot of videos that touted benefits of sobriety. I didn’t really “believe” them because, really… the idea of never drinking again was just so not something I wanted. I was sure my life would be miserable. Anybody watching this and seeing this comment, lemme tell you - the benefits of sobriety are real and so much more than you can ever comprehend. It is truly an amazing gift. The only regret I have is waiting until I was in my 40s to get sober. I wish I’d done it sooner.

I'm every inch with you on this! There's not a single downside to quitting alcohol, not even one. Sobriety is my fortress guarding my brain against the invading hordes of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs - I keep them outside. It's really stupid to let those enemies in and let them mess with such an intricate processing unit, which my brain is. I don't go to garbage dumps to collect hazardous chemical waste and store it in my home, do I? Hey, I see no reason why I should do this to my brain:)

I've actually had people accuse me of being an alcoholic BECAUSE of quitting. Of course they're all heavy drinkers/alcoholics who don't get how bad it is for you. The benefits are enormous, especially if you want to lose weight and just get healthier on all levels at once. It's truly a mind, body and soul type of healing experience. The biggest downside to quitting for me is being around booze and people who are obsessed with it. I hate the smell of it all now and I notice how annoying pubs, craft breweries, beer gardens, liquor stores etc. etc. are. I really look differently at these business ventures now and I despise the "scene" or environment that comes along with them. It's the nectar of the nitwit. Hope you're still doing well, 2 years for me today. Thank you for the insight fellow teetotaller.

Relapses have purpose, they humble you, bring you deeper into your version of addiction and yourself, and for most people they are actually essential to becoming sober once and for all. PS I’m not just putting a positive spin on something, talkin facts.

One of the biggest misconceptions about sobriety, especially for people who attend AA meetings, is that after a few years there's nothing more to learn and experience. After more than 27 years of continuous sobriety, I can tell you that my life has never been better. The only thing I have to do is remain "teachable", and the rest takes care of itself! Mark : )

150 days! I broke my old record of 144 days. If you go to a private event, always throw a tonic water or ginger ale in your bag….bring your own stuff. Also, I had no idea how much cancer is related to alcohol consumption…breast cancer, ladies. I don’t think of myself as an alcoholic….that just gives you a built in excuse, ie, “I couldn’t help myself, duh, I’m an alcoholic.” Keep your diary and let the venom out!

Still going…243 days. There are wonderful no alcohol champagnes and no alcohol red wines that look good in the glass. The whites of my eyes are white again and not yellow. That took 6 weeks. I took up guitar and I love it. I feel happy. I have had a few mornings where I have woken up feeling like I had a hangover…..which was odd, I keep a diary, but I am not writing every day and not much super emotional stuff is coming up. I think more people in the world are quitting drinking alcohol. Japan’s young people are not drinking and the market for alcohol in Japan is under pressure. Thank you for your videos. I just found your channel and I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have seen this video! I have a very alcohol dependent lifestyle. And what makes it worse is I have a degenerative disease so alcohol just inflamed my symptoms. I haven’t had a drink in three days and I already feel so much better! But I was scared I didn’t have the motivation to keep this up. I feel so hopeful after seeing this video! THANK YOU SO MUCH! ❤

Coming up for two years in September; I’ve had half a dozen beers since then as I do have an interest in the ever-evolving craft ale market. These days it’s mostly experimenting with loose leaf teas, sticky chais and artisanal coffees. Interestingly, I quit out of desperation because of the constant migraines and vomiting I was getting - it turned it was the crap flickering fluorescent lights at the office I was working at. That was also solved with wearing orange tint glasses, which also handle blue light glare.

I never thought I had a problem at all. I would look at people that drank every day, all day like they are the ones that have a problem. Meanwhile i would go out every weekend, I worked for the weekend drinking. I realized that I might not drink every day, but I drink enough to be a big problem and didn’t even know it. I would drink at least one day a week or even more since I was 17 (im 30 now) and NEVER thought it was a problem. I thank the internet and KZread because I would of probably never stopped and known there is a community for this. Thank you and everyone else for telling us your stories and making everyone else feel better to stop drinking ❤️

I'm so glad this video helped you out. I'm really glad that sharing my story can help others to not feel as alone. I was the exact same. It took me a long time to realize I even had a problem. I thought if you were an alcoholic, your life and health had to be falling apart. Then I realized just how much alcohol was holding me down and how it looks different for everyone. I'm glad you're getting more clarity now on your drinking habits.

True Story - I bought the book Allen Carr's How to Control Alcohol.... Then I found someone had uploaded the audio on KZread. Here it is... kzread.info/dash/bejne/nqeIrs2TZ5SnfqQ.html Its 8 hours long so I listened to it in 1/2 hour segments. After 30 plus years of self abuse I stopped drinking at the 2 hour mark. I'm done with it. And I did it BEFORE the book arrived!

trying to go till october without drinking.. eventually i want to give it up for good but i honestly dont think im ready.(feelings may change in a month). i find it most difficult on friday and saturday when my friends are feeling hyped about going out and trying to get me to come out with them. i also love drinking and having a good time. i got thru my first weekend sober this weekend and i love how i wasnt hungover. I kind of felt a power over my friends when i viewed their stories out drinking like thinking to myself - "wow does not seem as fun as its claimed to be" and im thankful i can see it from that perspective now. I want to live long and a healthy lifestyle. wish me luck on this trial period haha.

  • @DamnTastyVegan

Totally get that. That’s how I was in the beginning. The thought of giving it up for good seemed really daunting, so I would make milestone goals like that. It’s definitely harder when you have friends that always want to go out and you’re at the bar every weekend. I’ve been really surprised that a lot of bars carry more and more options for non alcoholic beers. Those have been helpful as well, but some people find them triggering. It’s really up to you. And I totally agree, the next day is the best, when everyone else has a hangover except you. That’s when you realize you made the right choice

@@DamnTastyVegan Hey thanks for the reply. So I picked up golf about 3 months ago and just went night golfing with a buddy and had my best round. I'm really improving and playing better sober for sure. Ik a lot of people that like to drink while playing. If i was out drinking tonight which my friends currently are doing then I wouldnt of had this experience. Overall I feel amazing right now and don't see any upside to drinking and this is only after week 2 (after i get thru tomorrow xD) the amount of productivity you gain from being sober is incredible and at the same time life changing. I cant believe im seeing the positive results even after just 2 weeks. (Probably have saved close to 3-400 dollars also!)

3 months. I’ve come this far before and relapsed. I know it’s different this time. It feels just feels different. I’m more motivated and optimistic than I remember being in several years. Depression is minimal whereas right before quitting I was the saddest (for lack of a better word) than I had been in my whole life. I’m also shedding weight I’ve accrued over the last three years at a rapid pace. Each new week has new breakthroughs as you slowly start to feel your confidence, energy, and your strength - mental and physical come back. The last drink I had was unfinished as it felt unnecessary and non-compatible with my new direction. I never went through any programs but I did have a loved one bring her down to earth and show me that I wasn’t indeed being myself. The habit is not yourself either - it’s not YOU! It’s something occupying you and something you’re doing, but it’s not who are you. You can shed this thing … this habit away from you. Thanks for this video (I’ve watched it a couple times) and I want to encourage anyone struggling with alcoholism that you absolutely can do a 180.

I've never had a drinking problem(& don't deal with alcohol) but most of the advice u offer in this video is what I suggest to my friends who like to drink (but don't necessarily have a drinking problem), particularly finding activities to engage yourself (rock climbing and such).

  • @DamnTastyVegan

    @DamnTastyVegan

Yes! It sucks that so many social activities are centered around going to a bar and drinking. It’s good to find other activities that aren’t, even if you don’t have a drinking problem.
