What I Learned from 3 Months of Daily Drawing - Creative Challenge 2023
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I started off this year by doing one daily drawing, every single weekday for 3 months. This was an exercise in discipline and testing my own limits to see what I was capable of doing - Could I draw every day? I learned a lot during this experiment and it changed a lot with how I view my day to day tasks and habits, as well as how I view my own daily drawing practice.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I finally emailed you back a couple of drawings. If you can respond with any feedback whenever you can, I'd appreciate it.
I had always struggled with drawing faces. So a decade ago I did a drawing challenge where I drew my own portrait every day for the entire year. Doing the daily drawing was so beneficial in many ways. I only ended up with a handful that I thought were really good, but that's not the point. It helped me develop a style and confidence that I'm grateful for. A daily drawing challenge is a great habit to form. Great video brother & very inspiring.
I'm drawing every day since february with a simple app that gives you prompts to draw (''sketch a day''). And I can tell that the advice of drawing each day makes you learn so much and quicker than anything else. I feel I can draw anything and feel not that bad about the mistakes I made. I just wanna have fun. And is fun. I'll try to draw in the morning. I'm drawing in the evening and sometimes it's like a speed race 😅
I admire the devotion and structure you use to achieve your goals. Your nature art is so beautiful and impressive! I remember your early days of those tiny acrylic landscapes 😊 My New Year's goal this year was to draw every day. Then I had to allow myself 4 missed days a month to ease the pressure. So far I'm keeping that up. I also have a calendar hanging by my drawing table where I mark off the drawing day with a big red X. Very satisfying to see a month full of red Xs, LOL. My problem is I am all over the place with my art style and subject matter (hello, ADHD) depending on the day's inspiration. One day it's wonky caricatures, the next day it's a realistic bird, etc. I don't have the focus or patience to stick to one area (or medium) to master it! Yeah, I know... self-discipline. I am weak! I think because my whole life I've had to follow structure and rules made by parents, teachers, bosses... I'm sick and tired of it and since being retired I've rebelled against all that. I also hate alarm clocks, LOL. A dilemma.

Wow that's an ambitious goal haha. And thank you for following me all this time. My channel has changed so much over the years haha. And my art too of course. Glad to hear you've been able to stick with that goal, that is awesome. And that makes sense about your art, just going with what you feel and not having a certain structure. I've noticed that people with structured jobs like doing art because of that reason. I think it's cool to just follow what you feel you want to do :) No shame or worry in that. Just enjoy it and have fun. Glad that you are.
This inspires me to be more disciples as well. Thanks for this vid.

❤Excellent advise about choosing a time in the morning and sticking with it. I do a drawing daily, but at random times and often feel rushed or get interrupted. I’m thinking of having a sign for my work room door that says “Work in Progress” or “Please Do Not Disturb” 😊 also choosing one subject like the owl is great as every day I have to think about what am I going to draw & that takes time, plus I try to do a water color each day, so your video can apply to both. Thanks again!

That sounds like a great idea about the door sign, no doubt! Hope it goes well! Thanks for the comment and for watching
I was drawing as an amateur for many years, but now l'm learning english and drawing at the same time, your advice inspire me to move forward and challenge my self😊
Your process reminds me of the book atomic habits. Truly inspiring, inshallah after exams I myself will try drawing as well.

I like your idea of practicing consistently, focusing on 1 type of subject...owls are nice! (Maybe I'll try cows!) I like the circle and how it ties the sketches together. I haven't really thought about using only a few colors, but it would simplify it and makes it look ...I don't know the word...professional, elegant, prefect for birds.

Love this, very timely and inspiring. I look forward to hearing about the Owl Project. I want to do a year of birds, but first I’m going to make a mistake book (thank you for that idea from a previous video). But speaking of the power of intention for overcoming resistance. I read a helpful idea, which is another way to say what you’re saying. When we decide to do something by setting an intention, that decision is already made, so there’s no reason to debate about it. Decision made, check, stay the course. So when some part of me says, oh, I have time this afternoon to draw instead of now, I can respond, maybe there is time (or whatever), but “I decided to draw in the mornings and I know I’ll be happy I did”, and intentionally recall the feeling of goodness from the previous days of having followed through as decided.
Inspiring!

Good luck :) And have fun.
Maybe some of the ones that were your favorite were like your eureka moments where you pull something cool off and then people notice the effects on your later drawings and that's why they like those more. Who knows perspective is weird
This has worked for me for a year now. I'm able to concentrate into painting during morning hours and the rest of the day can and should be something totally different. The next day I'm again interested in painting.

Well done video! Say, do you draw the bird then the circle? Or do you draw the circle first and then the bird on top? Thank you
Great tips Brandon! And where you get the references? Any site that you recomend? Peace

Hey Henrique :) good to see you here. I usually use Unsplash.com or Pixabay.com. Those are both good to use.
I could probably write an essay on the effect this video has had on me and how I can relate to the simple philosophy of "do it first". But I don't see the point of over rendering what should be simple. So I will say, Thank you. :-)

I think I heard you mention an App or program you use to ‘stay on track’. Would you share how to acquire that system tool?

Sure it's a free online App called Notion. You can find it here: www.notion.so/
